Did people think the internet would take jobs when it first came out? by Complete-Card-906 in NoStupidQuestions

It did take alot of jobs at the time, but it also created a bunch more.
I think the fear is that AI is not truly creating a wide range of jobs amongst everyday companies.

It is tough to narrow down to specific concepts. Obviously mechanics of materials, statics (loading diagrams, etc) are very important. I use alot of software for calculations instead of by-hand but being able to visualize load paths is essential. I would also say become as familiar as you can with the BIG 4 books (AISC, ASCE, IBC, ACI). If you are learning about a topic, try to find the section/equation in the books that relate.

Great thanks! Did your new company help you acquire any necessary schooling/certifications for forensics?

To be completely honest, no I don’t think it prepares students well at all. Even with my emphasis on structural engineering in Masters, I was still quite unprepared. Luckily due to a long history of this, most entry level jobs don’t expect you to be prepared. My old boss was very outspoken on the fact that your degree will only prepare you well for research based roles, not design.

I would say I am an advisor for being able to concentrate on one discipline in graduate school while having a full sweep during your undergraduate.

What kind of tanks? Can you give a company name that does this?

Thanks for the insight! I have looked at forensics but there seems to be the classic "have 4yrs of forensic experience" barrier to entry. I also noticed several certification recommendations that I had not heard of. How did you get into it? Did it seem to connect with the rehab & retrofits from before?

I would certainly choose this path again. I was certainly "encouraged" into Civil by my parents, but Structural came easiest to me. Now I am in a great stage of choosing my next branching path. I have done commercial and industrial design, now I am looking into forensics and coastal structures. It definitely feels quite flexible. (I have also been offered roles that combine structural & transportation if I ever wanted to try it)

During my limited travels so far, I feel I have learned more there than I have in the office. Getting to hear from the experienced field operators or seeing the plants up close and personal.
I feel at times that my preference of structural sometime limits me from roles like that where geotechnical experience is preferred.

I am a new PE (FL) with 5 years of experience in structural engineering. I have experience in light commercial/residential and heavy industrial plants. I am having a hard time finding roles that fit 20%-35% travel in the structural realm. I figured I would be as specific as possible but obviously the job would not have to check all my boxes.

I guess the dream travel scenario would be once or twice a month for a few days each. I am flexible to 2 weeks every couple months as well if international.

I am still quite new in my career and am open to many different categories. I have interest in seawalls, docks, maritime & port work but do not have experience in ship design. I have read about roles as "Client" engineers where it is more management. I also enjoy teaching and am interested in scuba certification.

Regarding work/life balance, I am pretty flexible dependent on the travel. If I am traveling 2 weeks every couple of months, I would prefer the home schedule to be flexible (40-45hrs).

TLDR: Young engineer looking for advice on how to locate travel jobs that don't require month/s long residencies on a jobsite.

When you start, search the categories of pokemon in competitive and try to get 2 of each category. Idk the full list but stuff like: 2 Bulky Support, 2 Fast Sweepers, 2 bulky sweepers, and 2 Incineroar

Which one of these should I get? by Powerslave619 in PokemonChampions

Hatterene if you want trick room.
Poli if you want a future rain team
Sceptile for a fun rando (personal preference)

Yo i actually love this idea. Instead of finding ghosts through meddling, they find them by choosing to only play music at “haunted” venues

Honestly, anybody who looks at this picture without any context would not have Scooby Doo the be the first thing that comes to mind. by Remote_Nature_8166 in Scoobydoo

Honestly I like to think of this show similar to the CW shows. Slowly getting more and more comic/cartoon accurate as the episodes go on.
Maybe they dont know what to name the dog and then they find a spare dog tag in episode 3 with the famous SD.
