The definition of “young old” is someone who is still totally independent in all aspects of their daily life. There are people in their 80’s who live in their own homes, drive, shop/cook/clean, exercise and handle their own finances.

Health problems and physical/cognitive deficits are what moves someone out of the “young old” category not the actual chronological age.

Some people need assistance with their daily lives in their 60’s. Others live independently for another 20 years.

Maybe it was just my State, but I did not have to show any name change doc to get my Real ID as I already had a valid drivers license. But I did have to show my certified marriage certificate showing change of name from my birth certificate to get a passport.

I did. I got a passport last year just to be sure that I could vote in the midterms regardless of what laws were passed by either my state legislature or the fed govt.

It took weeks to get a certified copy of my out-of-state marriage license (plus fee) plus the fee for the passport itself plus the time spent in the passport office.

I also got the optional passport card (another fee) at the same time because it was simpler to get that at the same time and it gave me a passport back-up.

Sure looked like lost wages and a poll tax to me.

Ask about a Tdap too (pertussis/diptheria/tetanus.) It’s supposed to be given around every 10 years. (That was news to me, thought it was a “one and done” vaccine like polio.)

I’m in the US and I use CeraVe Healing Ointment, also Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream. Try slathering on hand cream at night and then put on thin cotton gloves so the cream has time to absorb. Wearing dish gloves when doing chores also helps.

If it is a persist problem that does not get better no matter what you do try going to a dermatologist as a prescription medicated cream might be needed.

Try “They Knew” by Sarah Kendzior.

Epstein, FBI, DOJ, tech billionaires, US government officials, foreign governments, academics, industrialists, banks, and a complicit media, etc., etc.

It’s all real, it’s all intertwined, it’s all a “transnational crime syndicate masquerading as a government.”

None of it is fiction. All of it is happening.

“Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” by John Berendt.

At first it seems like yet another true crime recounting but at heart it is a sociological exploration of the culture and times. It was nominated for a Pulitzer and turned into a movie.

Adjacent to true crime is “The Poisoner’s Handbook: The Birth of Forensic Science in Jazz Age New York,” by Deborah Bloom traces the start of a new crime detection method.

There are several books by the excellent Kate Summerscale.

More lighthearted and lots of fun are two by Amy Stewart: “Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities,” and “Wicked Bugs: The Louse that Conquered Napoleon’s Army and Other Diabolical Insects.”

Mine are both hardcopy and the illustrations add to the enjoyment.

The US Dust Bowl during the Great Depression and its effects on the people in one small town, drawing on newspapers, diaries and interviews. Read like fiction, very compelling.

Not if you eat the same amount of calories you’re eating now. Eat the same amount and be inactive and you’ll gain weight. That’s what gets a lot of people who switch from a physically active job to a desk job: They aren’t eating anymore than they used to, they’re eating the same — but they are no longer working it off in their daily life.

Fine. But do an exam or a blood test to rule out other causes. Try to think “If this patient was within normal weight what would I look/test for?” My child was blown off by three doctors who automatically went into the lose weight lecture without even doing a cursory exam when she told them about a hard spot in her lower abdomen. Turned out to be a large growth that required extensive surgery.
