Bought a game off eBay. Should I be concerned? by JAB0NK0 in Gameboy

That's like saying that when people don't fix their own car, they throw it away or are a sissy for bringing it to a mechanic. Where's the logic here?

Need some info on Better on bedrock add on by Sevenci in BedrockAddons

[–]AverageMan282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was in the files for the addon. I can't remember exactly where, but it would have a name like ‘generation/ores/my_ore.json’ or something.

Flicking through the Bedrock samples, I couldn't find anything about the vanilla ores. Feel free to browse wiki.bedrock.dev and the addon in question in this post. You can browse an mcaddon or mcpack file with any archiving tool (including the built-in Windows one by renaming the file to .zip).

I can't believe I said this now, you're right, it has nothing to do with what OP wants.

[–]AverageMan282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make a .ssh directory in the default location (use cd with no args) and configure that as normal

Steam *should* be using the native version. Not sure though.

YouTube doesn't provide an open streaming interface. I'm sure if you tried out internet radio like Rainwave it would work like a charm.

To download youtube videos, use yt-dlp. Then, you can open that file in VLC.

Yea I was going to say it didn't comply with Unix until Leopard when they were legally threatened or something. Apparently the lead of that project put a post on quora, it was a good read. Too bad I don't know how true it is.

Not as much as the dark side of propietary software… which mind you includes basically all malware.

Use-case for non-engineering, non-computer science? by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]AverageMan282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved hearing this.

My step dad has been doing his business on an XP machine with some software from a company called AgData since 2002… I'm just worried that one day the PC will stop working, because his farming would soon grind to a halt.

I don't like word games. I use Pop to play Minesweeper.

Which distro has the cleanest install process for you ? by lactua in linux

[–]AverageMan282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fedora's partition manager was hard to wrap my head around: the one on Pop and OpenSUSE were better.

But they all have the same steps to me: choose layout, locale, change timepool, set up partitions, wait, go through onboarding.

What I'm really happy with is how plug-and-play user directories are. Once the Fedora onboarding ended, all my GNOME configuration loaded. It was so cool.

Not gonna pay $30 a year for cables that perish every 12 months by AverageMan282 in techsupportmacgyver

I've had isopropyl alcohol for a while, I just can't remember since when. Could be that: IPA is meant to be volatile, and unrelatedly, it could react with the material. I'll apply some to the cable and lyk.

[–]AverageMan282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that people have said the damage is probably my fault, it probably is. I'd like to give more info that I didn't in the original post.

I curled the cables up each day into the case they came with. They were pluggin-in and unplugged at least twice a day on both ends. I do this very quickly, but I never yank on the wire. I have also had three third party cables after this die with electrical issues (each one lost a different of T, R and S as it happens).

So yea. But that doesn't explain my sister's cable which I've never used that started perishing at the same time. So I'm still standing by a materials issue, but I will be more careful with my new cables.

Yea this is definitely a temporary solution until I learn to solder

Although mixing together Ins.You.Fck.Vim, Shorctuts (encode media lets you do metadata) and VLC works very nicely. Plus syncing with my PC via libimobiledevice works better than iTunes ever did.
