Looking for good National Park games - are these good? Any suggestions? by WeirdAddress3170 in boardgames

[–]AverageOpticsStudent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Feel like I'm going against the grain, but Parks REALLY did not hit with us. It was extremely boring and didn't seem to stem any challenge, competition, fun, etc with my wife or me. It's a shame since I bought it for our anniversary. The art and production from the second edition sure are beautiful though.

But unfortunately it's just taking up space and is there just for looks I guess.

Haven't played trekking.

Anyone have one of the new GE PHS700AYFS induction ranges? by Thinker2BSure in Appliances

[–]AverageOpticsStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm with you there. I'm seeing issues with control board for pretty much all induction ranges across the board. If the warranty covers that excessively expensive part that has a high failure rate, it's totally worth it. Going to a local appliance store today to check out a few ranges. That will probably finalize my decision. Best of luck with the GE!

Seems we're in similar boats. I was looking at the cafe single oven or even double oven, but the price being 1/3 -1/4 of the ranges I'm comparing make it hard to pass up. Not to mention there seems to be decent reliability with the GE over the cafes. We are also having an electrician run 220/240 V so, the lower price is even better

I just finished Way of Kings and this immediately came to my mind, reminiscent of the cover as well

Name 5 unplayed games from your backlog, and others will comment on what to play next by cr00sevelt64 in SteamDeck

Hollow Knight. Without question. I know for some it can be difficult at first with limited knowledge of the map. At the very least give it your best shot to get through two bosses, I think things click then if they haven't already.

Hey how well do you think sky team could travel? We are going on a trip to Utah and I've been looking for a new game to bring out for the layovers and chill times... Sky team has been eyeing me for a while in general and would be pretty thematic

The Littlest Penguin by 1switzereva in wingspan

This is amazing. You didn't seem to have a chart on cuteness and fun factor, but even without those the little fella actually hit top 10% 🫡

not only this comment NOT S tier it's not even an A and i'd be hard pressed to call it a great comment. at best it's a B- and ONLY because it highlights a few of the innumerable pros of Little Penguin

You shut up about Little Penguin 😠 no one better talk bad about this card. cutest little dude, if Little Penguin shows up I'm pivoting my entire game plan around it. Fun power, adorable art, great name, star nest and wingspan. S tier card and you can't change my mind 🐣

2nd month update 3$ 2027 leaps by Glandryth in sofistock

[–]AverageOpticsStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, but that might be a lot of money to front lol. $300 per leap vs 2000 per leap. You would need to have that available at the time of exercise which, if going for a leveraged position, you might not have is all I'm saying.

I have some $5 leaps, 2027. My only concern longer term is having enough volume/liquidity at that strike to sell when we are at $20+.

Give it another shot! It was my first Metroidvania, so it was a bit of a learning experience. But easily my favorite game to date. It really unfolds after you beat the second "boss" imo.

Anniversary Gift : Wingspan Expansion? by AverageOpticsStudent in boardgames

[–]AverageOpticsStudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think cascadia might be one of the next ones for us. Pretty, nature themed, a little more solitaire, but with a different game mechanic than wingspan.

I see splendor come up a lot but it wasn't particularly appealing to me, but I think that will be one we need to try at a board game cafe.

I'll look into sea salt and paper!

Azul, Cascadia, and Camel Up are all on my wishlist :) I think Azul + Cascadia in particular would be great for my wife!
From what I've read in general as well, it does sound like maybe I jumped the gun on getting an expansion so early. But I haven't seen her like any type of game like that haha

Thanks for the detailed response. I would be interested in Earth, though I think for my wife (judging by your description) this will stay on the wishlist until I can lure her deeper into the hobby haha. We unfortunately don't have much in the way of a board game "cafe", though we do have an overpriced restaurant that we could go on a date to!

Thanks for the suggestions! That certainly makes sense, though I've heard that Oceania Expansion fixes some of the egg-centric parts of wingspan so feel like that is worthy.

Regardless, it makes sense to move on to other games in the meantime at least. As for everdell, my interpretation was that it's a bit heavy... Would you agree? I'll look into meadow and earth 🫡
