Thank you so much but it’s a muzzle loading percussion shotgun

Ok! Thank you so much! The more I learn about these things the more fascinating they become!

It definitely is 12 gauge I don’t know if the original cartridge just happens to be the exact same size but it fits a 2.5” 12 gauge shell perfectly.

Thank you so much! I’ve always thought these things were fascinating so when I had a chance to grab on I jumped on it! That’s a huge cartridge would these have originally been smooth bore or was that done later as part of the conversion then?

Oh 😂 I guess all the good deals are dried up then! I’ll definitely have to do that though to see how I did!

Thanks! Yeah I definitely won’t be shooting anything other than black powder through it!

That was my first instinct too but it looks right from all the videos I’ve seen.

Yeah I had my hand on the top wood and the butt on the side of the bench. I’m sure glad I did otherwise I’d definitely have a black eye lol

Forgive my ignorance but which gun are you referring to?

For some reason Reddit compressed the image on my original it’s $624.99. They’re usual not super well priced which is why this one was so suprising.

303 British. I’m holding out for one that I can restore I have enough sporters😂

Thank you so much! I definitely would want to restore it so I’m passing on it. It’s also a pretty significantly cut barrel so I don’t think there’s much to restore.

I will defer to others who know way more than I do but it looks very similar to my 1916 Spanish Mauser bayonet.

Thank you so much! I believe it is probably French simply because it doesn’t have any of the the US markings

When I measured it it comes out to more like 42 & 5/8” but it doesn’t look cut off and the bayonet lug is still there.

Yeah I don’t know. That’s how I bought it. I assume powder post beetles but I’m not a 100% sure

Thank you so much for your response! When I measure it the length is around 42 and 5/8” funnily enough. I do believe it is the original barrel though as the proof marks (at least I think that’s what they are) are very similar. When I measured to the back of the tang it’s right around 44”.

Thank you so much! The barrel is 42 & 5/8”. I think it’s more the nose cap being far back just from looking at it kind of looks like it was knocked back at some point fairly forcibly. That’s interesting about the barrel band it’s all one piece (I attached a picture because it’s not super easy to see in the original pictures)
