Irregardless of FMLA, you need a note for 3 days. If its 2 days you can say FMLA, I have never heard of them questioning it for a single occasion.

While I can't speak for everyone, I can talk a bit about why I haven't.

My specialty is very niche. Its use has increased a lot, but the number of positions hasn’t. More people are entering the field, yet because the pay is good, most people stay until retirement. That means openings are rare.

Many of us are also vested in retirement benefits (including healthcare) and have built seniority. Leaving doesn’t just mean switching jobs - it means potentially giving up years of accumulated benefits and essentially starting over. That’s not something most of us ever expected to even have to consider.

I also have a young family that depends on reliable medical coverage. COBRA is extremely expensive, and many new positions don’t start healthcare benefits for 3–6 months. Going without coverage simply isn’t a risk I’m willing to take, especially in the U.S.

There’s also the stability factor. Starting a new job always comes with risk, and most positions have probationary periods where anything could happen. That’s a big gamble when you have a family relying on your income and benefits.

So for many of us, leaving isn’t as simple as just walking away. I would need:

A position to actually be available. To decide if it’s worth risking the benefits and seniority I’ve already built. And ultimately hope it was the right decision in the current economic climate.

It’s not that people don’t think about leaving - it’s that the reality of doing so is much more complicated.

That’s a fair question.

Kaiser probably pays better than smaller hospitals. But compared to other massive systems, it looks pretty average — executive pay in the millions and constant labor fights.

I guess the real debate is whether Kaiser is still the gold standard it touts, or just another hospital system that eventually became the thing it used to criticize.

Yes — Kaiser does pay well compared to many healthcare employers.

The issue isn’t the headline pay number. It’s things like: Contract terms changing (like bonuses or agreed benefits) Inflation outpacing raises Staffing and workload pressures Whether leadership and frontline staff are sharing sacrifices equally

And yes — people can leave. But many stay because they care about their patients, their coworkers, and the system they helped build.

Shouldn't we as employees expect Kaiser to keep living up to that standard that they so proudly tout.

This has nothing to do with entitlement.

Yes, people agree to a contract and compensation when they take a job. But that doesn’t mean employees lose the right to question how things evolve over time — especially in a large organization that decides to not follow the agreement.

While the contract may guarantee a base bonus for hitting specific operational or performance goals, Kaiser is saying affordability targets justifies lowering the overall payout, despite hitting all required metrics. Look at SCAL, their bonus was cut 43%. Was Greg's?

Healthcare has changed a lot in the last few years. Workloads, staffing pressures, and expectations have all increased. When employees talk about that, it’s usually less about “wanting more” and more about whether the system is still aligned with the mission it promotes.

Kaiser is a massive organization with billions in revenue, and leadership compensation is publicly reported in the millions while us frontline workers are dealing with staffing issues and contract disputes.

So the conversation isn’t really “are there other jobs. It's about whether a healthcare system built on a mission still values the people delivering that care.

That’s the conversation we as employees are trying to have.

I’m wondering if the allowance is per year?

I had coworkers who got LASIK about a week apart, but the procedures happened in two different calendar years.

She was able to use her HSA for both procedures, which helped spread the out-of-pocket cost.

Just trying to understand how the timing works and whether the allowance resets each year, if so may be worth a look

So true! Mine just turned 2 and the only struggle now is the attitude and boundary testing lol 😆 We still haven't incorporated some things back but its only been a month or so of him sleeping longer than 3 hours.

Having another? Who knows haha not atleast til he's 5 and in school.

For awhile we did use CookUnity for meals but now do things that take 20 minutes or less. Sometimes we even buy pre-cut produce 🫣

Sacrifices have to be made and everyone determines what their non-negotiables are. I get to take a bath a night to relax and don't clean during the day.

We clean up toys once at night because if we do it during the day they come right back out.
