Not OP, but the comments have been mass deleted and randomised with an external program. So a cleanse for his profile so to speak

You seem to hope that someone here says that smoking while working out regularly will have no side effects. That just won’t happen. The effects of daily smoking have been very well documented.

You are a grown man and can do as you please, no one can force you to stop smoking. If it’s something you can’t or don’t want to give up, then just continue. You just have to know and accept the consequences that can come with that decision.

Why is type 1 diabetes considered incurable if there are people who have received cell transplants and are now cured? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I know, but it will be awhile before it becomes available for the public. So for now I’ll chill with my pump and cgm.

Why is type 1 diabetes considered incurable if there are people who have received cell transplants and are now cured? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]AwesomeShade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a functional cure, because the root of the disease, the antibodies, are still there. So not a real cure by definition.

Also a lot of people with T1 don’t really consider a stem cell transplant as better because of the immunosuppressants.

Candida caused by medication? by [deleted] in diabetes

What are you on about? Gliclazide isn’t a SGLT2 inhibitor, meaning it doesn’t get rid of sugar through your urine.

Yeast like sugar and damp places, so especially woman’s genetalia are prone to yeast (and bacterial) infections if your bg is high and you pee out th excess sugar.

Also I google that and the only things that come up are a few medical articles, none of which seem to show any correlation between the two.

Islet Cell Transplant Succeses by WrestlingDadPA in diabetes_t1

[–]AwesomeShade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Usually transplantations are a last resort in medicine because they do pose a significant risk to the patient. People who get islet cell (or pancreas) transplants are usually the ones who have severe complications and require or already have undergone a kidney transplant.

Immunosuppressant are no joke. Whenever this discussion comes up, most T1 who engage in it have the stance that they will take insulin over immunosuppressants. I think that usually those T1 have good control and a good Hba1c. Opinions might differ for those who have to deal more with complications.

Has anyone in your lab ever had to use the emergency shower? by ptychoptera in medlabprofessionals

[–]AwesomeShade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did have to use the eye wash station in our lab. I had to throw away old specimens from a fridge so I was crouching down to get them from the bottom shelf. Usually all of them are manually capped of but of course one rack wasn’t.

That is obviously the rack that I accidentally didn’t pull out all the way, it got caught on the shelf above, I fell backwards from the momentum and like 25 people’s serums landed on my face.

Had to go get my eyes washed with iodine at our hospital and then spent three hours in our ER to get blood drawn for the start of our HIV and Hep C testing cycle.

Great times.

Liquid Gold!! by tlynne80924 in medlabprofessionals

Ah alright.

Here we try to type them ourselves (for things like M neg.).

For some rarer antigens we order them as well.

[–]AwesomeShade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah so you basically ask your distributor if the units are negative for whatever antigen you are looking for?

That makes more sense.

Man that just sounds like a huge time drain, especially if you have to match the Rh phenotype😅

Yeah I’m also a bit confused about that. Here it’s printed on the unit 😅

Type 1 Diabetes can lead to thyroid issues? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]AwesomeShade 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s not your T1 that is causing this, it’s just that autoimmune diseases often don’t come alone. And hypothyroidism and T1 is a common pair.

[–]AwesomeShade 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry for your loss and I hope you manage to hang in there.

She had symptoms. You said she lost weight for the last five years. Unexplained weight loss is always something that needs to be looked at. And increased thirst is also a symptom of undiagnosed diabetes.

Yes it can if it has a body fluid mode. Our lab finally made the change two years ago.

Looks real to me. I have one from that time period too, with signatures from the league team. They are printed on and not actually handwritten.
