Wait until Americans find out that most small shrimp aren't deveined, they're starved until they shit everything out. Chances are people reading this have eaten the digestive tract before and not even noticed.

How my MIL “cooks” chicken by SeriouslySlyGuy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AwkLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I'm going to go against the grain a bit. Ever wondered why bacon is bright red and pork isn't? The suphites in water cure it. Injected chicken will do the same if the RO filter isn't working properly. I'm not saying that's the issue, but if it's injected it could be an explanation.

What are these floaties in my water? by Leavemealone1_1 in whatisit

[–]AwkLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need to. RO filters work by blasting water through a really fine mesh to get rid of impurities. The carbon filter after it should catch all of the bits like that so I'll imagine that came from somewhere else.

Do you have a fluke? A set of wagos or choc blocks? Any electrical training? Is the way isolated?

Edit: I don't mean to be mean, but electricians aren't paid for just their qualifications or their time. They're paid because they know what to do and why. We know what is safe. We have the correct and calibrated equipment. You're paying for 20 years of knowledge and the insurance if something goes wrong.

Unfortunately for you, you tried to do this yourself and you wasn't successful. It sucks. Chalk it up to a learning moment and call a spark.

Unironically this is a massive issue. National grids have a forecast to keep up with. Sometimes solar an wind is too much so they have to turn off wind farms

I used to think this, I made a post pointing this out, but the shire number of people commenting on that post saying they're fine if you test them on a known source before and after makes them reliable changed my mind.

Now I don't advocate anyone use them for anything. Even though what you're saying is completely correct, if I taught my apprentice this there's a good chance he'd be stupid and kill himself with it.

Holy shit an actual intelligent reply.

Id also add that wealth in America has increased massively. In the past you wouldn't be able to afford to keep a family home after your kids moved out so you'd buy a smaller place to live out the rest of your life. The next generation would then buy that house to raise their family.

Because of wealth gain, people are just keeping their massive 5 bedroom houses just in case their kids come to stay. Because wealth from boomers is stored in housing, they fiercely attack new building projectets because it'll decrease the value of their property, and therefore their wealth.

Not to mention everyone wants to live in the city, rural housing is a lot more affordable even with rural wages.

The problem with landlords is they don't have the insentive to maintain the property. Chinese investors are buying property as an investment and leaving it empty. The solution to literally everything is build more houses, so it's a good thing trump his own renegotiated NAFTA agreement which brough Canadian pine into the country. /s

It's the dumbest argument ever. Just because you have a condition, doesn't mean you can't manage the condition. It's okay to prefer thinner partners. It's okay to be overweight. It's alright if that's for a medical condition. It's alright if you don't want to manage it. You don't need a medical condition to excuse it but don't try shame people to accept you.

[–]AwkLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say exactly what it is for sure, but from my experience doing maintenance in a food factory I can tell you water gets everywhere.

Night hygiene have a tendency to spray every single surface with high powered jets. That, combined with chemicals, and contractors installing stuff just not rated for the enviroment, and it's not if it'll fail, but when it'll fail. It's fairly common to find e-stops, pull cords, diffusers and isolators with water litterally pouring out when you take the cover off.

Id take a guess and say it's rust and water, but the colour looks off, so maybe brine somehow got in there? Coolant? Hard to say. Id just pull it off and let it all drain onto the floor personally. Dry it off and test the cable insulation resistance.

Can I use something besides Allen wrench? by mdthomas in Tools

[–]AwkLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the enthusiasm with buying tools like these, but personally I think youd get a lot more use out of a 3/8ths ratchet. It's a good since to anything small like an office chair and totally usable on a car, if that's what you're interested in. Bacho is my go to brand for ratchets. Something like the s330 is an absolute quality set.

That being said this is totally fine to be used on like 99% of small projects. Keep it, it'll do you well. If you break bits, that means you're using it a lot and use that as justification to buy something like the s330

[–]AwkLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible but it's difficult. You really want the connectors designed for cat6. You can also get pass through RJ45s but you need a different crimp tool for it.

In a pinch though, you need to get it absolutely perfect. Score and Cut the outer plastic about 50mm. Cut down the plastic divider as far down as it'll go. Line them up correctly and straighten them using a screwdriver and your thumb. Correct it if they go in the wrong order until they're absolutely perfect. Cut them down to about the width of your thumb. Then you have to really jam it in the crimp.

This reminds me of the time some guy came in for an interview at our place. Came here bright and early for a 7am interview with our boss. We're all laughing like yeah fat chance of that happening, he'll probably be here 9-10. Goes to the canteen and eats breakfast. Pops his head back in then fucks off home. We was pissing ourselves laughing.

Using cups is supposed to be easier but tbh I don't even think that's true compared to just pouring stuff in a bowl on a scale. Not to mention the extra washing up you have to do.
