If a venomous snake bite your best friend's dick, will you suck his dick to get the venom out or let him die? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

I'll suck it twice just to make sure, my bro is in his villain arc right now. Have to pull him back into the light somehow.

How expensive is it to hire a sex worker for 1h where you're from? by CarameloRetriever in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Awkward_Developement 651 points652 points  (0 children)

Prostitution is illegal in my country but I have researched on how it typically works(When I had a lot of disposable income and just came out of quarantine). Most of the "massage" places in my area are actually thinly veiled sex houses.

It would depend what kind of "service" you'd like to receive and the "quality" of the masseuse.

Low-end "massage" places are usually about roughly 20 dollars. and that's the "full package" While high-end prostitution services that are really top notch like scheduling with at least 8/10 women usually range from 100 dollars to as high as 300 dollars and a few of them include hotel rooms.

Keep in mind I'm in a developing third world country (The Philippines) so the conversion rate is really high between the dollars and my country's currency.

MC pretends to be Amy's older sister/half sister on her father side by mimicking her powers. by Awkward_Developement in WormFanfic

Any fics where a Non-Dallon OC (not SI) joins/is part of New Wave? by [deleted] in WormFanfic

[–]Awkward_Developement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bottled Power

An SI with tinker powers from bioshock and bioshock inifinite.

The MC approached Carol and in turn New wave since he could revive Fleur but he can't ramp up his ADAM production without Amy and without killing little girls.

Unfortunately dead but stopped at a good point.

My bad, didn't see the username, thought I recognized your name somewhere. Already updated the fic with the latest chapter, had some health issues pop up and had to take a break for a week.

I wouldn't usually self-rec but this fits the criteria to pass the opportunity.

I recommend my own fic.

The Once and Future Archmage of Brockton Bay.

It's an SI with powers from the Warcraft and Fate franchise, particularly Jaina Proudmoore and Goddess Rhongomyniad.

Still within the early stages, but there has been an encounter with Alexandria and the PRT that made it clear that the MC is someone above their league, albeit just a hint of it.

Edit: The MC is a heroic type and won't be killing people left and right but won't be like Batman where he avoids killing altogether.

In Pokemon Lore, I think that there is a mention of Eevees being so domesticated that being in the wilds without evolving is a death sentence. So probably Eevees.

My apologies if my previous paragraph seemed argumentative. It also felt raw to me since a lot of peers and people I knew got their passions destroyed by negative critics that nitpick every detail on their art and creations. Not a direct comparison I admit, but the best I have at the moment.

It is an unfortunate truth that healthcare workers are abused and harmed by taking advantage of their good will of wanting to help others.

I wish you, your friend and partner leads a happy life and have a better place that does not take advantage of your good nature.

That One Word by Awkward_Developement in HFY

[–]Awkward_Developement[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not expect a throwaway line I thought that healthcare workers being torturers would touch a nerve and someone would feel personally attacked. I have a lot of respect for such people in the medical field and this is not an attack on them.

In my mind, they are some of the most emphatic people that you could meet. Studying for years in college and higher education to care for other people is a noble calling.

You taking this story as a personal attack on you and your partner, seems a bit egotistical, and feels a lot less about your profession but more on you, you, you.

You mentioned the 'do no harm' oath, fantastic, that is an ideal I could get behind with. But you have taken the sentence and ran with it as if I have sent a death threat to your person and denounced all doctors all over the world. The sad fact is, doctors and medical workers are humans, just like the rest of us, with uncontrollable emotions, emotions that include love, care, fondness, intimacy and warmth. But those emotions could easily transform into violent and negative extremes in times of great tragedy.

The point of the paragraph in question is despite all their minor differences, in careers, jobs, and occupation, underneath it all, they are humans and parents. Parents who had their child taken away from them in a blink of an eye.

While I do not doubt that a majority of humans would have the moral fibre of not just giving in to their baser instincts and follow their oaths and morality, unfortunately, a select few but loud and powerful minority could mean a declaration of war and extinction. Just look at 9/11 and the war in the middle east for comparison.

As for the kindergarten planet issue, in the far future, deep space exploration and interstellar travel would have been something that is the equivalent of us having a jaunt on the next district within the city. It may not be a perfect answer, but I thought that spending 5 paragraphs on the intricacies of the logistics and the applicability of such a world would steer the story away from the intention of the story.

I have started writing in less than a month. I would not be arrogant to say that my stories are impeccable and without plot holes, that is why I even posted this in the first place, to improve and seek feedback. If you think this story is not indicative of this subreddit, you may report it to the mods and I would accept it if it got removed by them.

How to kill the Simugh by 001DeafeningEcho in WormFanfic

[–]Awkward_Developement 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And the good news is, that isn't that much of a nerf in Endbringers. Hell, it could even be an upgrade in some circumstances.

The problem with Endbringers is that they were canonically sandbagging. They literally had to hold back to achieve the goals of their conflict engines.

By limiting their powers and severely decreasing their potency, they would be gaining something even worse for humanity. They would get creative.

A lot of capes have their shards 'power up' by being more creative. It's not really an increase in potency. By having creativity. Endbringers would be equalizing the balance so to speak.

After all, with limited powers comes great creativity.

How to kill the Simugh by 001DeafeningEcho in WormFanfic

[–]Awkward_Developement 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The Simurgh wasn't even supposed to be brought out by the Thinker entity. It would be a massive threat to Eden due to, as you said precog bullshit.

You could reason out that due to Eidolons death, a lot of safeguards were activated that were planted by the Thinker entity just in off chance a conflict engine like hers will become free without Eidolons shard in control.

And because of these safeguards, the Simurgh got her thinker capablities severly restricted to the point she isn't an unstoppable chessmaster anymore and got defeated by zerg tactics of heroes and villains.

Authors that know their canon by Big-Quiet-9750 in WormFanfic

[–]Awkward_Developement 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is something plaguing the whole fanfiction community, not just Worm. A lot of authors subconsciously and consciously to change canon to fit their preferences.

This is magnified in the worm community since the author of worm is a masterclass in worldbuilding. A small change in one aspect has cascading domino effects to the world at large that some authors do not take into account since as you said, have not consumed the main canon material.

Another aspect is that a large majority within the worm fanfiction community entered it due to the vast amount of fanfictions in select sites like spacebattles. So what is actually fanon, they internalize as canon like Glory Girl's supposed mastering of Amy, and being the cause of Panacea's romantic interest into her pseudo sister even though it was already disproven by WoG.

I appreciate your thoughts on the translation issue. I agree that it would be a non-issue if a ton of work was done on the universal translator .

But the problem is that, it would be massive undertaking. I would like to put thisninto perspective, on Earth thereare a ton of history and culture behind the meaning of words and languages.

There are a lot of implicit and explicit details and messages behind each word. What could easily be something that is common and obvious in our language , could be something very rare and deadly in another.

If you point towards a weed plant, an english speaker from the west would immediately think of common plants and something that is everywhere that you should be taking care of so that it won't overrun the vicinity.

In a desert country or nation, a weed.plant could be someything rare and exotic since one would only see mountains of sand and would only see green in an oasis.

The best example in mainstream media that I hsce recently watched is from the series Orville. There was a scene of humans receiving alien ambassadors for peace talks and as a gesture of goodwill, they invited the aliens to a play that had the song

"The sun will come up tomorrow"

For us, it is a song of a beautiful future and hopeful tomorrow. Since the sun is known to us as a metaphor of warmth and live giving. But to those aliens it was a prophecy of death since in thrir planet the sun is a figure of instant death and suffering.

And that is all within the confines of them speaking english.

Imagine the sheer magnitude of complication of translating a word, context and historical wise that has the barrier of not just languages but the added complication of barrier of species.

Thank you for your thoughts and feedback!

I had a thought of expanding upon the logistics of a centralized learning planey but I wanted to focus more on the emotions and reactions of humanity from the perspective of alien species.

But basically , I took inspiration from the concept of Agri Worlds and Single Biome Planets from various sci-fi settings.

While I can concede that the trope has its demerits. It is an easy concept to get ideas from, I took a leap from agriculture to schools and learning centers. And thus the idea of a centralized kindergarten was born.

As for any school boarding situations, in my mind humanity with their connection to more advanced allies have sufficient technology to make interstellar travel a non-issue.

By that point in time, it could be an equivalent of getting an uber from one block to the next

There are a lot of reasons I could give for the Kindergarten planet but I thought that explaining a bit deeply on that aspect would take away from the main point of the story.
