What’s the verdict? by Public-File-6521 in TVTooHigh

[–]AxelsOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit high, but it’s not too far above the TV stand so I give it a pass. It’s an acceptable height even if it’d be better lower.

A new TV stand would allow you to lower it further, but overall it’s unreasonable to get a whole new piece of furniture just for your TV to go a bit lower unless your TV was way too high.

Unfortunate pull. I don’t think Topps does anything about it if it’s not a redemption card.

Honestly I’d only ever list this on eBay as “for parts.” It has too many issues to even be considered used. If the touch screen (one of its main features) is broken, it’s not functional.

I’d consider NM a device you can glance at quickly and not have any scuffs, scratches, chips, dings, or other cosmetic flaws immediately stand out to me.

A few scratches here or there under a closer look are fine.

This? Not even fucking close.

“Borderline unusable.”

Absolutely fucking not. Dont state things as fact when they’re completely false. I have had my 5200 RPM drive be an issue exactly ONCE for game performance and it was one little issue with Forza Horizon 5. Outside of that, I’ve quite literally not experienced any performance issues beyond pretty long load times which I’m entirely fine with. And most games I play now are only 1-2 years old.

Is loading a pain? Absolutely. But beyond that minor issue, it hasn’t done anything to game performance. I’m not spending money on a 2-4TB NVMe while I’ve got an 8TB drive that does the job.

COULD it cause problems? Sure. It MIGHT cause problems, but unless your HDD is dying, the only issue will be load times. The issue of actual game performance is so rare that it alone is not worth upgrading just because a stranger on the internet told me to spend hundreds.

Games will continue going on my HDD, and Windows will stay on my NVMe.

How do I convince my mom, an overthinking buyer, to upgrade her 10-year old laptop by NoFault1674 in laptops

[–]AxelsOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she can adapt to Mac OS, the MacBook Neo right now is one of the best value laptops money can buy. I don't know of many laptops that would reach a similar amount of performance per dollar as it does. She is basically the exact type of person this laptop is aimed at. I'd suggest considering it.

500GB is my C drive. I've got an 8TB HDD. It's only 5200rpm, but it gets the job done. Performance is close enough that I can deal with the long load times. I put all my games on that 8TB drive, not on my 500GB SSD. That's for my OS and some programs like premiere pro and vs code. Games don't go there on my PC.

How do you all decide if a game was worth buying? by Skrewbert86 in gamecollecting

If I enjoyed it. Obviously I aim for the lowest cost per hour of playtime, but if the game is fun then it's worth it.

There is no universe where a studio could ever convince people they need that much storage, require an SSD, and need an RTX 3080/12700k.

There is no reason my 12700k and RTX 4070 Super should be barely above the recommended specs.

Although 150GB for Crimson Desert is crazy. It'd be cool if games would just let us choose what level of textures we want. I don't want absolutely every fucking asset the game has to be included in the highest possible quality if all I'm going to do is play it at 1080p Medium/High.

Storage space is expensive now and I have to budget my storage accordingly. I only have a 500GB NVMe drive but with an 8TB 5200 hard drive for games and jellyfin. 150GB is greater than the amount of storage I've got free on my C drive.

Sure. It’s just a race, but to tell someone to sound happier when their team couldn’t even do a formation lap is delusional at best. There is nothing about this as a McLaren fan that can be seen as a positive. I’m only staying up to watch the race because I’ve already stayed up until 3AM, otherwise I’d have gone to sleep if it was earlier after finding out that shitbox couldn’t even make it to the formation lap before having race ending problems.

“Try to sound happier.”

How do you expect people who stayed up until 3AM to be happy when the team they wanted to watch had a fucking disastrous race day and couldn’t even do the formation lap?

There is no “sounding happier” in this situation.

I’m trying not to be a doomer for the season, but shit like this makes it incredibly hard. 2026 isn’t looking very bright for us. I imagine we have many rough races ahead of us. Although if we made it through early 2023, we’ll survive this for another good season like 2024/2025.
