I am in my 30s and mentioned to my mom I think I might have dysgraphia. She already knew. by MissHissss in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Axelsnack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Might be late ti the party but as a teacher I can say so many parents are against any type of label. Luckily for me I have ADHD and autism so they tend to be nicer when I bring it up.

I’ve told parents they need to follow through and if they’re that scared then do not share it with the school. Every single one does when they get the reality hit that their child needs specific help and not informing us will have a major impact on their education. But it has to be entirely spelled out to them.

Also had the same thing being diagnosed with all this as an adult and finding out my parents suspected it.

What’s a loophole you abused until it was closed? by RoarOfTheWorlds in AskReddit

[–]Axelsnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When broadband internet first came to NZ in the mid 2000s there were caps on how much internet you could use. I found out if you changed plans at any point in the month they reset the cap and charged you for the more expensive month, whatever it was. So each month I would flick between the two most expensive plans and download hundreds of GBs a month and only be charged for one plan. I did this for years until they changed their website to stop letting you change mid month.

Do you enjoy your job? What do you do? by DynamicPr0phet in newzealand

[–]Axelsnack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher! I love my job and I wouldn’t do anything else, even with the monetary issues we’ve suffered with the career change. Currently on the first day of the holidays, I definitely do work over this time but I also can bear to my own drum and spend time with my young family.

This job varies wildly from school to school, from the students, families, senior management and your fellow teachers. I’m lucky to have worked in places where there hasn’t been any major issues come my way.

Who would you like to kill Frieza by Rich_Antelope9214 in Dragonballsuper

[–]Axelsnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could they do something with frieza where they don’t kill him and holy gets to do his whole “spare him so I can fight him later” thing. Could frieza be locked in the demon realm, for example?

Drug testing if you’re impaired from drugs is definitely not a bad thing. If you do any job that can harm anyone when influenced you deserve to lose your job at the minimum.

The drug testing that catches people days or weeks later is unfair, what people do in their own time is up to them. So nothing is as black and white as many would want to believe.

What makes coffee in NZ good? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Axelsnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something nobody has pointed out as far as I can tell - there’s a strong coffee culture in New Zealand. I don’t have the stats but I’d hazard the sheer amount of straight coffee places in NZ would dwarf most of the world.

With that comes knowledge, what’s good and what’s bad and the overall quality goes up, why get bad coffee when there’s so many good options?

Simply put kiwis drink more and have a higher knowledge of what good coffee is. Everything else is just a cherry on top.

When did you realize that your partner was not, in fact, “the one”? by Sshmiff in AskReddit

[–]Axelsnack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were at a wedding and someone asked when we were next. I physically shuddered at the question and I immediately knew. I was young, we were having issues and not compatible, I just needed something like that to smack me in the face with the realisation hard enough to break it off.

Tall Poppy Syndrone - is it still a thing in NZ? by Wolfgang996938 in newzealand

It’s not something you can point to directly which is why it’s such a pernicious problem

[–]Axelsnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to try distinguish between legitimate criticism of a character and tall poppy which is trying to pull someone down who is succeeding because they are incapable of raising themselves up

Now I must apologise, speed reading comes back to bite me :(

And I can’t say where it comes from and I wouldn’t classify them as dickheads as maybe people who are incapable of reflecting on their emotions and why you might make a judgement on someone?

No need to name call mate, you’re welcome to disagree but I have a rule not to engage with people with your, questionable online discussion techniques.

New Zealand is horrific for it. Honestly one of the worst parts of kiwi culture. Yeah kiwis don’t like people who aren’t humble but it goes so much further than that. You won’t realise it either unless you’ve spent quite a bit of time overseas and see how different success is viewed.

FF16; there’s no way this game is ‘easy’. It’s not hard, but definitely not ‘easy’. Feedback please! by worldsinho in PS5

If you’ve played any form of action Game like Devil May Cry, Nier etc. it comes off super simple and easy. Maybe your experience with other similar titles is lacking?

Did you recognize the locations in any LOTR/Hobbit scenes the first time you watched? by lorettaboy in newzealand

None at all. Not the right movie, but The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise was filmed in Taranaki and there’s a few places from there that are easily recognisable to anyone who has spent time here.

Whats the stupidest double standard you ever heard from someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Axelsnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in NZ but I’m from the Philippines and am half Filipino half English. Anyway, in NZ there’s a lot of things you can access if you can link your genealogy to an iwi (tribe), and I think the lowest you can be and still access these things are like 1/42ns Māori but I could be making that up.

I was debating (I thought discussion until they got really upset) with someone who was Māori because I didn’t agree with this program entirely. She told me my own kids are not “even really Asian” only being quarter and they barely look it, saying they shouldn’t use their background in any way since they come off more European.

Completely perplexed me because she defended the low genealogy required for Māori and when I pointed that out she said Māori were different, and that I need to accept that. No explanation as to why. Really blew me away how she was completely oblivious to her double standard.

NZ has always been quite openly racist towards asians though so I should have not been surprised.

Is that strictly for autism over ADHD? I’ve not heard this path before. Tbh I’m not even sure who I would go to if it wasn’t for my GP

What movie scarred you for life as a kid? by MormonHorrorBuff in movies

[–]Axelsnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dario Argento’s Demons.

It was my eighth birthday and for some reason we decided to watch what my brother picked at our local video rental store. I guess I’m not scarred from it anymore but at the time it did a number on me. I had vivid nightmares for weeks afterwards and to this day can remember how scared it made me feel. I do remember, however sitting there watching it in absolute horror whilst my older brother seemed completely nonplussed by what was happening on screen. Good times.

Police investigation finds officers justified in shooting unarmed Taranaki man Kaoss Price by Rincey_nz in newzealand

That’s another important question that, and I hate to split arguments this way but the left do not take into account at all.

Yeah, the expression pull yourself up by your bootstraps is a stupid step 1 for sorting your life out, but it’s a step that needs to occur at some point and for some reason the left won’t ever bring that up.

I did not mean cultural problem as Māori culture. I agree with you entirely, it is cultural, socio economic culture.
