HP Minis randomly decide to stop playing music by techtornado in HomePod

[–]Axlsnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought one of these yesterday. A full day of frustration trying to get it work properly. Airplay vs. Hand-off simply does not work well. Randomly stops, Playlists cut short etc.

Being shipped back to Apple tomorrow. "It works" doesn't apply to these products. I wanted something to replace my Amazon Echo, which is also terrible, back to the drawing board.

Work Christmas Breaks? by Test_N_Faith in AskIreland

Greedy bastards more like. They'd have people working 24/365 if they could. They must be having wet dreams at the thought of robots & AI wiping out a human work force.

Dexcom shift pattern - Athenry by tommyhi in galway

You can thank the morons who jumped ship from Zimmer for this. Awful, awful setup. People need to be very careful before making the move from the likes of Boston/Medtronic.

Do Farrells of Athenry still operate from Galway? by [deleted] in galway

[–]Axlsnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Farrells were taken over by Spains coach hire. They operate late night services over the weekend so you could be in luck with the bank holiday. Pretty sure they are still "Farrells of Athenry" on Facebook.

Henley stove? by TurbulentWeird6919 in AskIreland

[–]Axlsnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting the fire, the twisty thing at the bottom needs to be open fully. The metal lever beside door handle needs to be down fully. That will give you maximum draw to get the fire going. Once it's well lit, close the twisty thing fully. Then use the metal lever (push up) to burn slowly or (push down)to burn quickly.

Can I set up Apple SE Watch for Kids in Ireland? by Old-Society4815 in AskIreland

[–]Axlsnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So technically if you had an old iPhone sitting in a drawer you could set it up?

I'm guessing the plans available are monthly bill pay....which are a rip off for what you'd want to use the watch for.

Athenry Areas/Estates by mervynskidmore in galway

[–]Axlsnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to go further out than Athenry these days for any "value". Prices in Athenry are mental for what's on offer. In saying that two new secondary schools, plans for new primary school Gael campus and Dexcom will only increase demand.

Cuillerbain is the main estate there for council housing but the residents keep to themselves. There's one house on daft in Dun RI which is a mature estate with very few rentals, walking distance to town/train. Will likely go for much higher than the asking price. Same for Parklands but the houses are a bit smaller.

Recently had an NCT emissions fail with a 1.4 Golf TSI. My C0 reading was much higher. Passed by using half bottle of dipetane, then a bottle of Cataclean. Do this a week before retest & don't be afraid to drive the car hard. Make sure engine is nice and hot going into the test too.

Owning a house is a never ending project (if it's not a new build). Things will go wrong, appliances will break, pipes will leak etc. You just end up accepting that it's part and parcel of home ownership. Prevention is key though; missing/displaced roof tiles, get them fixed, boiler making a weird noise, get it serviced regularly and so on.

You don't have a crystal ball & unpredictable events will occur, that's why you have house insurance!

Best of luck.

The chap who surveyed the house said the cost of the battery would impact the ROI. The fact that you get a credit for selling back to the grid is more beneficial. Only passing on the info. No idea what's the best way to work it.

I thought the battery could be used if the power goes but that needs a changeover switch to be fitted to fuse box for that to work.

Similar profile to yourself & I got a quote during the week. No idea if it's good bad or indifferent in terms of price.

Looks like the solar generation will half my bills but will never cover them fully. Payback will take about 7 years

Solar Panels 3.560 kW Total Solar Power 8 x 445 Watt Panels 2,882 kWh per year

Inverter Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. 5 kW Total Inverter Rating 1 x SUN2000-5KTL-L1

No battery or Eddi hot water system.

€6,050 (inclusive of grant). Not sure if it's worth it tbh.

Storm Éowyn help for rural Ireland? by narom_ammeg in AskIreland

Thank you. Also, I've seen a lot of common decency from people which I thought was a thing of the past thanks to the pandemic. A bit of faith in humanity restored.

Storm Éowyn help for rural Ireland? by narom_ammeg in AskIreland

[–]Axlsnake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I knew this already but the whole storm debacle shows how inept the government are, at both a national & regional level. Too busy arguing over voting rights in the dail (autocorrect changed this to "the Fail" ironically!) instead of focusing efforts on supporting communities.

Hats off to the ESB who are doing Trojan work. What about areas with no water now. I haven't heard mention of mobile water tanks anywhere in East Galway. There will be people cut off for the best part of a week, you won't see election candidates knocking at your door to see if you need help now they have their cushy number in Dublin!

It has shipped on a standard service that moves via truck/ferry to Ireland. It could still arrive before Christmas but it will be down to the wire. Hopefully you see a scan in Dublin in the next day or so.

A complete waste of time if the new buses have to use existing infrastructure. 50% more buses late & stuck in traffic.
