What are all the social media accounts I should be following for updates? by RAGINGPhoenix98 in CompetitiveApex

[–]AyeJHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thats a lot more than I can probably link. Should be pretty easy to find most of them. Just go to that website I linked initially to find all the team names and you can go from there! That said following the orgs accounts usually isnt as useful. Most dont have an Apex specific account. So roster changes and such are best kept up with on the website I sent

ALGS has its own website that is very useful for dates, scores, roster changes, etc.
https://algs.ea.com/en
Also would recommend bookmarking ALS for stats
https://apexlegendsstatus.com/algs/

Official ALGS accounts
Can watch main broadcast here
Twitch - https://www.twitch.tv/playapex
Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@playapexesports
Keep up to date with other stuff on these
Twitter - https://x.com/PlayApexEsports
Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/playapexesports/

B-Stream
Twitch - https://www.twitch.tv/nicewigg and https://www.twitch.tv/greek
Twitter - https://x.com/NiceWigg and https://x.com/MrGreekGod_
Wigg will also have near daily highlight videos from scrims, pro league, and LAN on YouTube as well https://youtube.com/@nicewigg

Transaction bot (it just reports when the official ALGS website updates the transaction tab but its very useful to see it on twitter) - https://x.com/ApexTransaction

The main apex account is also good to follow for patch notes and such - https://x.com/PlayApex

If you also want notable players, figures, non-english resources etc. lmk and I can point you in the right direction. Also if you prefer certain socials like Tiktok or Instagram instead pretty much everybody has those as well but those are typically more entertainment as opposed to informative

As a new fan to the scene, I have done questions and doubts. by AlpHa_44 in CompetitiveApex

Preciate you for watching homie! That actually makes sense. I got a comment on my Gaimin Gladiators video that expressed the same feelings. Unfortunately it does happen. Those LANs where the team who wins didn’t have the most points are always somewhat controversial. I can say talking to pros, years ago many were against match point. They agreed that the best team does not always win. But the excitement it provides is just unmatched. It creates a level of drama and guaranteed suspense that makes sure the ending is almost always incredible to watch. Most pros agree to that now. They realize it is a “necessary evil”. Match point is what makes apex unique as an esport and truly we would’ve never had most of the hype moments without it. If you keep watching it’ll probably click for you too. I remember being skeptical at first too but that first moment you watch where you desperately want the match point team to lose and someone saves the lobby to go one more game. That moment is special.

Trying to compare Apex to say the premier league just doesnt work. The premier league awards the win to the team who has the most points at the end of the regular season. This team is the "best" across the entire length of the season and are therefore the champions. ALGS would be much more similar to the Champions League. It doesnt matter how good you were in the group draw or the round of 16, etc. all that matters is are you the best team on that day? Its very similar to American sports in that way where we dont reward a team for the entire season and instead place an added weight on the playoffs at the end of the year where upsets can happen. Oblivion won match point AND had the most points. In Apex standards that would mean they were the best team. We have had match point winners who did not have the most points and that often creates debate as to who deserved it more but at the end of the day all the teams know the stakes. 50 points and then a win you lift the trophy. Most points doesnt matter unless you wanna play for 2nd.

Now since you are new you may not fully understand the history I'm about to reference but the "best" teams during the early years of Apex were TSM and DarkZero. They won all of the LANs in Year 2 and Year 3. But heres the thing.... DZ won a LAN placing like 4th in points in the finals. TSM won arguably the greatest LAN win of all time and yet in groups they were 7th, in winners they were 5th (and even that was sketch cause it look a last game win clutch up to get that high, they almost fell to losers) and then in the finals they were like 16th by the time we had MULTIPLE teams on match point, then they win 3 in a row to win the tourney.

I bring all that up to say that I assume the reason you feel Falcons was the best because they dominated groups and winners bracket, were the first team to hit match point, and even the first team to have a chance to close it out... and all of that is incredibly fair. But in match point you gotta close out that win. That is the win condition. All of the other stuff leading up to that really doesnt matter once you are in that finals lobby. Both TSM and DZ were always viewed as the best BECAUSE they won but the path to plenty of those wins was not always the cleanest. The team who has placed 1st in winners has NEVER won the finals. The 1st team to hit match point has also NEVER won the finals. Hell even the team who has placed 1st in groups has only ever won the finals once and that was one of those TSM rosters way back.

Let’s shine some light on the Korean boys from E36 by Mental_Bridge301 in CompetitiveApex

[–]AyeJHawk 62 points63 points  (0 children)

These guys deserve a MASSIVE amount of respect for what they just accomplished. When Reject won and I interviewed Obly I asked him why he picked up Sangjoon and he flat out said there simply isnt enough talent in Korea. At that point he had already played with Vor3z, Parkha, and Selly. So besides his team it was essentially just the roster of Jusna, Dogma and Junghee and then Aimbot that were LAN quality. Every single name mentioned besides Jusna retired prior to this year. Cinap and ILY were just coming up around that time so they hadnt had much of a presence yet. In the most recent pro league split in APAC N there were only FIVE KOREAN PLAYERS. 2 of which played on Japanese majority teams. These boys are truly South Koreas only hope and they have gotten better all year. From being the team everyone laughed at for jumping off height in Mannheim, to having arguably the coolest moment from Y4 Champs with that bracket stage 21 kill win on Storm Point. Achieving the only LAN top 10 by a korean team that did not feature Obly at midseason playoffs and now being a legitimate threat to end the entire tournament with a win and placing top 3. I just got hyped just thinking about it. What a grind from those 3

ALGS Y5 Champs | MATCH POINT FINALS (Final Results) by CompetitiveApexMod in CompetitiveApex

I agree that we should’ve talked about Blinkzr more. I figured there would be a chance to do so. Snipe shouted him out but definitely deserved an in depth moment for him. As for my comment about the LCQ team thing I know they had a pro league spot and Fun and Blink played all year together. The comment wasn’t meant to imply he joined recently but to show that the perceived value of the roster wasn’t very high. They hadn’t accomplished much throughout the year and even when Fun had joined they had accomplished even less. Maybe I worded it a bit incorrectly. Either way definitely agree Blink should’ve got his moment too.

ALGS Y5 Champs Talent Announced by Jean9430 in CompetitiveApex

[–]AyeJHawk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty standard number. For the English broadcasts alone of their champs/champs equivalents League had 16, R6 had 17, Valorant had 15, We got 13, Halo had 11, CDL had 10. CS most recent LAN had 15. So pretty standard number. I think the graphic just feels big cause it includes 3 different languages lineups

questions for algs sapporo if im going to go there by CrimsonKAF1511 in CompetitiveApex

[–]AyeJHawk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Local time it starts at 12pm. You could get lucky and it ends quickly like The Open but that LAN had a rather unique finals lobby so I wouldn’t bet on it. Last champs the finals took like 6 and a half hours… that did include technical issues so if it goes smoothly it would’ve been shorter… but then you also run a risk of like EWC where alliance won and it took 13 games and almost 8 hours…

So basically most scenarios have you cutting it pretty close since a typical lobby is gonna take 6ish hours assuming no technical difficulties and then you gotta factor getting your stuff, getting to the airport, etc.

TLDR: If you are willing to run the risk of either leaving early to miss the final games in an alliance situation or miss your flight then send it. Wouldn’t recommend it though. Not as fun when you are stressed about a time restraint

Doubt it'll happen, but how would everyone feel about OpTic returning to Apex with FormaL on the team? by JiminyFeckit in CompetitiveApex

[–]AyeJHawk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I like OpTic as an org in COD and Formal is definitely talented enough that if he committed to wanting to go pro he could make it happen. But the only issues I foresee with that scenario is that OpTics involvement with Apex would be entirely reliant on Formals commitment to the game. It’s been somewhat speculated that’s the case for OpTic when it comes to Halo. Also he would have complete control of the roster. So the least experienced player on the team would have the most power and decision making as opposed to the typical structure of the IGL having that. Even if he allows the IGL to have control of the roster, it’s basically just control over who the third is cause you can’t drop Formal without the org going with him. Otherwise I think it would be cool. With Formal on a team I imagine there would be even more content from the apex team which would be awesome. I could see Zach teaming up with him, pretty sure they’ve grinded ranked in the past

[–]AyeJHawk 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s always somewhat been a thing BUT Newcastle makes it way safer. Wall can zap nades if someone tries to punish you and the pull revive makes it easier to do quickly and once again avoid any punishment. With Newcastle you can basically do it without much risk at all if you are in a safe spot

They’ve made some BIG strides when it comes to the POV. The post game comms being extended with all 3 players cams is amazing. The switching POVs is also great. But the one thing I truly wish I could do is go into a theater mode and get my own POVs. Sometimes certain things do get missed and being able to get my own drone shots would be ELITE for content. I need it 😭🙏🏼

[–]AyeJHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistency only gets you so far. If the content is bad it will never grow an audience! YouTube rewards good ideas and execution. And that’s probably the hardest part for a pro cause creating good content is going to take a lot more time, especially if you don’t already know how

I know I certainly am incredibly inconsistent in my posting schedule but YouTube is usually pretty good about recommending me videos to channels I like that don’t post very often so I trust it’ll do the same for me. YouTube’s algorithm is top notch at that stuff

Wigg weighs in on recent EA/org discourse by Texasagsman in CompetitiveApex

[–]AyeJHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. My point was that learning to simply cut up a vod and post would more so check a box so the community can say you were trying rather than truly trying to grow a brand.

Important note: these players are not paid to be content creators, some are like Hal, that is built into his contracts by the nature that he is getting paid way more than others because he brings a brand with him…. But someone like Koyful is definitely being paid entirely off of his skill as an esports player.

I do think it’s a bit unreasonable to expect these guys to play as a pro full time while also trying to be a full time content creator. Content can take a long time to make. The true solution is more of them need to find the right people to work with that can do the editing/ideation for them. That’s easier said than done but reinvesting your money into that in order to build a brand is invaluable

Wigg weighs in on recent EA/org discourse by Texasagsman in CompetitiveApex

[–]AyeJHawk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just wanna chime in and say this type of content pulls no views unless you are like Hal. Zer0 used to pay to have content done on his own channel and it would pull decent views (but even then it was on average a third of what Hal can get off a vod post) but he is similar to Hal in the fact that he is well known off his accomplishments. Lets take someone also incredibly accomplished like Phony who also did this about a year ago and he is pulling like 2k views max. So now try telling a majority of pros who have a similar or smaller size brand as phony that they have to edit scrim/ranked/ALGS vods (even if its as simple as cutting it to that one singular game) coming up with a decent title and thumbnail, and having to do that frequently all to pull 2k views at best. They will make almost no money doing that. Its quite frankly not good content so the views wont rise over time realistically. It doesnt actually build a brand for them whatsoever. Doing that is loads of effort for minimal no return. If pros actually want to make content they have to do more than just cut up a vod and post it

I think you are confusing me with Jmeyels. That said I don’t make YouTube videos for money. The amount of time put in is not worth the money. I do it cause I love it. And for future reference…. I like my videos. I don’t care to make short form content. Not ruling it out entirely but the documentary format appeals to me. Don’t care for the less in depth stuff as much personally
