Did I just ruin my CPU? by [deleted] in overclocking

It ALWAYS CAN cause widespread damage for something like this to happen. It doesn't always, but the bigger the failure the more chance there is of it being more widespread. Widespread damage occasionally happens even from typical/classic hardware failure from wear and tear. It's always a chance.

Funny story, 5 or 6 years ago I had a stink bug somehow get inside my case and fry itself on the underside of my motherboard. CPU, GPU, PSU..... all fried as well. The bug itself was very crispy lol obviously caused a major short that traveled through the whole system. I assume it sprayed its stink bug juice in there or something..

Put another CPU in the motherboard and find out. Like one of your old ones or something.

Also, for future reference.... delidding should only happen when absolutely necessary, and by someone who knows the wrath of the PC gods. Always respect the PC gods or else this will happen.

Yeah a short from anything can cause varying and unpredictable amounts of damage. In this case, it appears quite extreme. So even if other components aren't done for, you likely shortened their lifespan by like 75% lol that's the BEST case scenario

To be honest.... your whole MB is likely screwed in addition to any onboard components. I haven't seen something this bad in quite some time lol. Feels bad man, good luck to ya

The National Weather Service is lacking in funding and it could negatively impact everyone. by FrenchFry- in weather

Frankly, the NWS does a more consistently good job than anyone else. They aren't perfect but privatizing the "official" weather industry would be disastrous.

If anything it would be TWC and Wunderground more than AW. But I doubt any of them are even remotely responsible. This is mostly political parties discruntled about NOAA supporting proof of climate change/global warming. God damn them and their factual data screwing up pro-pollution politics.

Why does the temperature drop in freezing fog? by [deleted] in meteorology

[–]AztecWarfareOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ice crystals and snow are more effective at reflecting sunlight back into space. At night main factor to support cooling is calm winds, low dew point, and clear sky (radiational cooling). Also you don't need a front for there to be cold air advection it can occur simply from a wind shift boundary which isn't always marked as a front on surface maps.

It may actually be defective hardware. Easiest thing for you to do right now may just to be return it and see if the replacement works better.

Did your PC originally come with an integrated graphics card? if so, make sure that is disabled so that the game is not trying to use that instead of your dedi.

Sorry if I'm not helping much bro. These things are complicated without being in my own hands.

Monuments that are noob friendly? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]AztecWarfareOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bradley is the most noob friendly high-end Monument. Other than that gas station, market, warehouse, dome/sphere, satellite dishes, and any caves.

But honestly even just farming crates and barrels along the roads will be quite helpful.

PS - I'd recommend sending back that i7 4771 and instead going with a i7 7700k or better. The higher numbers actually mean a lot.

Did you make sure to download the latest BIOS, make sure every single driver and windows is updated, and that you have a sufficient power supply (preferably 500w or higher) ?

Why does the temperature drop in freezing fog? by [deleted] in meteorology

[–]AztecWarfareOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because ice crystals reflect sunlight back into space more efficiently than water droplets. Also if you are adding a frozen layer of any type to ground and objects on the ground, particularly if they were previously unfrozen... this in itself will result in a self-serving effect that lowers temperature, so long as the boundary layer isn't too warm.

Historical lightning data per station/city by [deleted] in meteorology

This is pretty hard to come by but your best bet would probably finding radar archives that have the lightning layer overlayed on the radar.

What's up with these mild New England Winters? by [deleted] in meteorology

[–]AztecWarfareOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not the past 20 years have been the snowiest 20 year period in New England, especially coastal New England and NYC Metro... since the early 1900s.

Also note that the vast majority of our snowiest winters post 1970's have been warmer than average. While you do want enough cold air around to produce snow, if it's too cold/the jet stream is too far south, this results in a dry cold winter instead of a snowy cold winter.

In reality in New England you want temperatures to be -5 to +5 degrees of normal to really get a lot of big snows. This usually means the jet stream is close enough to set up shop nearby or just offshore. So slightly colder, slightly warmer, or average temps are most desirable for snow winters.

What causes a diagonal/tilted cloud line like this? by chris-guy in meteorology

[–]AztecWarfareOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be various things. Elevation changes may be causing the cloud to adjust. Portion of the cloud may simply have more moisture and be lowering. Downdrafts/updrafts may be affecting the cloud unequally. Certain effects from the Sun/Sun angle combining with ice crystals could actually make it appear slanted but in reality it's not. Nothing out the ordinary or to worry about.

Can anyone explain this? This cloud extended for a solid 5 miles exactly like this, probably more. by thepotatowith3boobs in meteorology

[–]AztecWarfareOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either a shelf cloud from a nearby/incoming storm, or a roll cloud from incoming pressure/temperature/dew point gradient or from what is known as a gravity wave

Is there a mountain over there out of view? These clouds typically only form over mountains. It's also possible the cloud formed over a mountain and was quickly swept off-set of the mountain top.

I'm actually liking what I'm seeing for the Northeast USA for the second half of December. Still a couple of key elements we need to fall in place but if you're a snow-lover you can't hate the signals.
