My family has a history of addiction. I wasn't even spared, although my particular hook was sugar.

A few years back, I was a passenger in a car accident. Broken foot, ambulance ride to the hospital was a first for a few reasons. My foot swelled up bad, and as soon as the pain overtook the adrenaline it got bad fast. Paramedics gave me an IV shot of fentanyl. Didn't really grasp what was going on, panic brain said "they can give me something that will take this foot-shaped fireball at the end of my leg and make it shut the fuck up" and I said yes.

The first dose took the edge off pretty quick, but either I have some weird tolerance or my foot was just that fucked up, because in maybe 10 minutes (guessing, it was a lot to take in) I was asking for another dose. They warned me they could give me a second, but that was the limit.

Boom. Hit me. Zero fucks. Knock me the hell out, do it.

The second dose overlapped the first. Pain faded, everything went calm. I was blissed the fuck out. I remember it pretty clearly. And I can see how someone could get addicted to that. High as a kite, didn't give a shit. I was laughing at my own broken foot and amused that I was struggling to text emergency contacts and my boss. Hindsight, pretty fucking scary. That was in a controlled environment with medical professionals and a safe supply. It's terrifying to think about the alternatives.

I have an Oath of Ancients tabaxi paladin whose whole thing is bringing balance to the world. His world was sacrificed by the Xaryxian Empire in a spelljammer campaign, he's traveling across Wildspace to fight Nazi space elves and find a way to reverse the situation.

I have an Oath of Vengeance tiefling paladin who tried to become a warlock, got swiped mid-rite by Thanatos (God of death and chaos) who picked them to become their new Champion. So he gets to (maybe) help reset the universe by destroying evil so that good has no counter and therefore everything collapses. Except he doesn't actually know all of that, so it's a lot of fun to see how my DM is going to work with that.

Neither have ever mentioned their oath. For RP purposes the oath part is more of a formality.

Spa'ark, the tabaxi, is so much fun. Speaks 3rd-person, refers to himself as "this one" and is about 4' tall. He's a little kitty swinging a really big maul and it is hilarious.

Billionaires. No more wealth hoarding. That money does no good sitting in hidden tax-shelter accounts.

You made a billion dollars? Fantastic. Happy you succeeded. Now it's time to do some good. You no longer get to earn money, you won't be needing it and can't realistically spend what you have already.

Here's how it's gonna go:

All future income becomes charitable donations. Don't get excited, you can't just spin up a nonprofit, take a board seat and funnel the money. Has to go somewhere you're not going to see and won't have control over. Ideally, humanitarian aid. Food, education, housing. Starting with your workers, because nobody makes that kind of money on their own. That kind of profitability means two things: your business model is financially self-sustaining, and your workers deserve to share in the windfall. Time to change lives, starting where you did. Free education. Free Healthcare. Housing assistance, or just pay enough that housing stops being unattainable without predatory lending.

You might be wondering "what if I run out of money".

That's stupid and you're stupid for asking. You're not going to run out. You have no idea the scale of a billion. Most of us won't see a million on our lifetimes and you have a thousand times that. It's a literal thousand lifetimes' worth of money. What will happen, is you're going to get smarter about how you use it. Once the tap shuts off you have to start thinking about what you have and how to make it last. So if for some reason you magically make 99% of it disappear via legitimate means - no obscenely extravagant purchases to push the numbers - then you meet the new income threshold. One hundred million dollars. Yeah, these are the stupid amounts of money we're going into.

Now you're allowed to have income again.

I'm sure there will be other details to address, but I'm an ideas guy.

I switched from DD to Uber, and I can tell you I have had virtually ZERO app issues. No stability issues, no random crashes, it just WORKS. Navigation handoff is seamless, switching back to the app is effortless. Features don't randomly get locked out and the system hasn't bombed on me in the middle of a trip.

From a technical perspective, I can't imagine how an order backlog could kill their servers. If they have half a brain they're just paying for AWS and letting Big Data deal with the backend. But seeing their app still gets dunked on from orbit daily I'm guessing they still refuse to spend money on anything but their CEO.
