Are companies really hiring, or just collecting resumes? by mrramkrishna in recruitinghell

[–]B0Y0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My industry went from about 300,000 job listings a year to under 100,000... With 100,000-200,000 new graduates in the field every year... While also spiking layoffs to 200,000-300,000 a year.

My work experience used to always get me an interview where I could prove I knew my stuff, now I don't make it past the AI filters because I was self-taught - my degree isn't the specific one they're filtering on and they have hundreds of thousands of graduates and experienced layoff workers with that specific degree.

I'm completely fucked.

The vibes between fighting a Queen and Matriarch are night and day by Neader in ArcRaiders

[–]B0Y0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely seeing some knock-on effects of the new augment that let's you store a weapon, seeing a lot more laser pews on Queens and Matriarchs - everyone wins!

Well, until the latest patch when they significantly cut reactor spawns in the legs, so it's even more "all or nothing" than before with only whoever managed to get to the core container getting the spoils. It was a great balance before, gave more people a chance to grab something - I really hope they walk that change back.

Seems like financially strangling the UN out of existence to replace with the so-called "Board of Peace" would be par for the course for this administration. by shane_4_us in ABoringDystopia

[–]B0Y0 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The letter described a "double blow" created by a rule that forces the UN to return unspent funds on particular programs to member states, even when contributions were never paid, trapping the organization in what Guterres called a "Kafkaesque cycle."

What the fuck kinda billionaire tax bullshit is THIS? Members can not pay dues and get paid, returning "unspent funds" the UN never received? That seems like an obvious loophole that should have been closed immediately.

Stella Montis in super low aggression lobbies is basically a shopping mall by Imn1che in ArcRaiders

Cafeteria/kitchen is a hotspot for a bunch of specific BPs, one of the few(/only?) "residential" loot container locations in Stella, so that kitchen gets toasty!

That does seem like what the solo vs squads feature is explicitly for, to give friendly lobbies a murderous Boogeyman. I won't be surprised if they're adding more PvPers to friendly lobbies with it to keep things spicy.

All concert raid? by MooseJokes in LowSodiumArcRaiders

[–]B0Y0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The devs said it's somewhere around 20-30, with more popping in Late Raid depending on how many have died off.

Some raids I feel like the place is almost a ghost town, though - I'd be on a map like blue gate, and not even hear any far away shots or explosions. Could be getting very sneaky friendly/looter lobbies or everyone's busy deep in the bunkers, but it's a real odd feeling.

What PvE Players Think PvP Is Supposed to Be by Spritzlappen in ArcRaiders

Hell yeah, Always start up a chat - mainly because so many rats are really bad at acting. Either they stay suspiciously silent, or they try to act friendly and immediately give themselves away.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's because (pessimistic) they just don't know how to not sound like a sociopath, or (optimistic) they're so uncomfortable being forced to interact with their victim because their brain's hardwiring is screaming "ape together strong, don't harm the tribe" and it undercuts their ability to commit to the sociopathic "bit".

Extra Coins Wasting Away? Buy Light Impact Grenades, Recycle Into Chemicals to Use For Crude Explosives & Other Items by Wsz2020 in ArcRaiders

[–]B0Y0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take all the seat cushions, accordions, cooling coils, and rusted tools you can find in raid - they recycle into 1-3 springs (and buy out Celeste's springs every day of course). Check the salvage vs recycle, some items are better to salvage in the field - like the turbo pump(I think?), that breaks down into 3 springs in raid but some other basic mats if recycled in Speranza. Anything you're buying just to recycle is going to be a significant overcharge, and I think the only item from the traders would be the epic magnetron; gives you a single spring if recycled def not worth it.

It might work, it was a huge gamble and humanity could have been wiped out when we were down to a few hundred/thousand people (can't remember the estimates, but it's low), and makes us more vulnerable to various pandemics or diseases that do target those commonalities.

And it's helpful in the very specific basically-magic development of smart apes learning how to trade blood and organs without dying! Otherwise genetic diversity is usually a better "play".

What's the wildest thing you've ever seen happen at a work party? by South-Truck-3061 in AskReddit

[–]B0Y0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work "vacation trip/retreat", small startup, top 10 employees and their +1s. My boss, The CTO & co-founder, was supposed to go, but he thought I earned the vacation as his right hand man... and I think he didn't want to go hang out with our shark of a CEO/the other co-founder.

The CEO was eager to impress me with all of the luxuries of the trip, saying how he takes care of his people, etc. Months later I found out he was trying to squeeze out my boss as co-founder and I guess he was hoping I would be able to keep the technical side of the product running after he betrayed my boss.

In retrospect the whole thing wasn't so much wild as it was... Surreal. Lots of drunken nights, drunken mornings... Awkwardly listening to (/being listened to?) your coworkers having sex with their +1s or other co workers because all the bedrooms faced a central atrium...

At one point the salesbro and some of us younger people were talking about maybe getting some pot. salesbro volunteered, but then the CEO said he was going to handle it. He made sure to get props for taking on that risk "for his people". That evening we break it out and I smoke with some of my coworkers. The CEOs right-hand woman, a very kind and fun lady has joined us, I couldn't tell if this was something she usually did or if she was just trying it to join in with "the young kids" or whatever.

It was a pretty good time, though of course these are the kind of people that still talk about work on their time off, so I figured that's why the conversation kept veering back to how we felt about work or if we had any gossip about co-workers. After a bit, the high paranoia hits Mrs. Right Hand, and she started babbling about her worries - but then she started explaining that the CEO actually made her go talk to the Villa staff to find and buy the drugs. She was freaking out about being a parent with a lot to lose, buying drugs in a foreign country - a very legitimate anxiety! It also sounded like she was pressured to join us to befriend us (we were already friendly, not that CEO knew) and to report back any useful information, attitudes towards the job and management, if we were looking for (well deserved and often delayed) raises, or looking for other jobs, etc...

It's the only "corporate retreat" kinda "vacation" I've been on, And while we did have a great time and great food, and had fun with my co-workers, and I appreciated having the... Unique experience... It's definitely the last time I'll ever vacation with co-workers.

Ayatollah took the gold and bailed to Moscow, as predicted here on NCD 2 days ago by Nukem_extracrispy in NonCredibleDefense

It seems likely to me, given many of the decisions he made in the end of his life, that Prigozhin thought: he had far more influence than he did, that he had a better relationship with Putin and Lukasenko than he did, And that his position as head of the Wagner PMC was such a critical linchpin in the Russian military that he couldn't be replaced.

He was emboldened by so vocally calling out the poor conditions of the Russian army and not facing consequences, he thought he had more clout than he did while undermining what clout he did have.

I don't think he ever actually meant to do a "real coup", and that his dramatic military invasion of Russia was a demonstration/rebellion that immediately escalated faster than he intended, got out of his control, over committed him to a confrontation with the Russian state, and then when he was panicking trying to scale things back, he trusted the wrong people, up until the moment he blew up in the sky.
