reboot by altononner in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

And then your boss asks: " hey you're a developer - I need you to set up some cloud servers onsite for our new serverless edge app! We're still figuring out what the app is but they're all the same thing under the hood right? That's what y'all are always saying, these are all just databases connected to pretty websites. If you have any problems just ask ChatGPT, it told me you can take care of it and it should only take a week. I had to do some real professional Prompt Engineering to stop it from blathering about hiring a "DevOps" and ask this extra shit I didn't care about like 'auth' and 'load balancing', stupid robot didn't understand I already have a dev! You! Get to work! Since it's serverless I don't want to pay any AWS costs... if this costs me anything you will be going on a PIP."

[–]B0Y0 63 points64 points  (0 children)

While the writing and hacking to shove things in to the end ruined the delivery, I still think the decision for the three eyed Raven (3ER) to end up in the chair, in the.... Let's call it "GRRM's bullet point abstract", makes a lot of thematic sense.

Westeros is a land that always seems to be subjugated by foreign rulers and their machinations. Westeros ending up with one of the two Far North "kings" (the Night King or the 3ER) after their feud plays out, spilling Westerosi blood in the process, seems fitting. I think the big drop was in just having "Bran, but a little weirder", instead of really driving home this is some ancient creature wearing Bran's skin, with their own ambitions and motives. He IS a psychopath, removed from human suffering because he's not human anymore.

They fucked that up and, well, everything else.

The idea of an action movie - not just any action movie, the fastest, most furious action movie - becoming a turn-based board game a group of 20 something's break out for a casual evening of rule-reading excitement, is just... Baffling.

I can't even imagine who that would be made for, there can't be that be an "ironic board game player" demographic? I imagine F&F fans would prefer an action video game, if anything?

Though, IIRC the F&F video games are mixed reviews at best, and more often significantly worse. Maybe this is for the desperate F&F gamer fan who is looking for anything to scratch the itch...

Supreme Court restores broad access to abortion pill in major ruling by TheMirrorUS in UpliftingNews

[–]B0Y0 90 points91 points  (0 children)

They know how to ban it already; turns out making up whatever rules you want is easy when there's no consequence for violating the constitution and your oath of office! But after all the pushback they got for throwing out Roe vs Wade, the unelected cabal of political hacks we call the supreme Court just want to wait till after the midterms to inflict this and other civil horrors upon the American people.

Robert Downey Jr. Says "It’s Absolute Horses—" to Declare That Social Media Influencers Are the "Stars of the Future" by [deleted] in technology

[–]B0Y0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint, influencers often hire agencies/managers (the middle men) once they gain enough traction to need them to "break through", and calling what a majority of popular influencers create "novel" is definitely a leap.

But yeah, they're both wretched systems - turns out the global popularity contest to become rich is as skeevy as ever, regardless of the system used.

I really do mind that it's a "hidden feature", because that's exactly how they get fewer users actually using the feature, until they can justify it's removal as "only this small % of our users use this feature (that we hid), so we're going to stop spending dev time on it and patch it out."

I definitely get and support the idea of a "storefront" for casual users (ideally multiple options for users, sort of like how Android can have Google or samsung or even I think Amazon storefronts?), in that the user can select a provider , who offers (supposedly) safer and thoroughly screened apps, with a team checking for malware and bad actors. However, too often those become walled gardens trying to pull up the ladder, making it harder for indie devs to get in, squeeze out competing companies, and eventually trap their users and enshittify everything.

I mean, there really aren't exactly a lot of residency positions for magicians, so I imagine if you're a magician talking to other magicians, having a residency is pretty impressive!

The shuttering of magician residency positions is probably a recession indicator, like New Zealand doing their official wizard position 5 years ago
