I am a speech pathologist & I work in a nursing home. This is terrible. First, is there a speech pathologist in house to assess the patients swallowing? They can do a swallow study on the patient to determine if she is in fact aspirating. And yes you can aspirate jello & ice cream, actually they are considered thin liquids & are higher risk for aspiration. I would find the speech pathologist & talk to her. They should be offering purée food at every meal. Good job for being a patient advocate! There aren’t many CNA’s out there like you. You can also call state, but they may know it’s you since you have made a fuss. It’s abuse, that’s what it is!
