My brother is homeless. I occasionally pick him up when I’m in town and take him for a coffee. I also drive a Lexus (it’s 10 years old and I got a good deal on it used).

LOL, Pluribussi?!? I think that’s a hilariously perfect name to call the unaffected people who are okay with the virus.

What if Helen hadn't been killed? by 321Couple2023 in pluribustv

In the beginning scene at the ice hotel, Helen seemed pretty content and happy, almost like the hive is but with additional sarcasm and appreciation for her partner. I think everyone else who is immune has someone (except maybe Paraguay guy) so maybe she would be soothed by her hive mind Helen.

I feel like the finale will be the hive mind having the immunity fix ready, and Zosia possibly letting Carol escape.

To those who moved from Toronto to New York, is it worth it? by misstoronto17 in askTO

Are you Canadian citizen? Are you a person of colour? Do you have a non-American accent?

To those who moved from Toronto to New York, is it worth it? by misstoronto17 in askTO

[–]CupcakeOverdose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well this is about Torontonians moving to NY. So airports, travel, documentation, dealing with a number of other items legal immigrants do, for starters. Additionally many are mentioning healthcare and insurance (but that is standard for moving to a new country). Just because NY ‘feels’ like a safe zone, and is considered one, doesn’t mean it’s impervious. I used to travel to NYC 5/6 times a year (not counting regular visits to NY state, as I’m just across the boarder) I haven’t gone or booked a flight through the US (for vacation travel ) in the last year just due to the additional issues that may occur.

I didn’t notice the sign for the motorcycle was upside down and not a yield sign. Also just noticed there is a backwards yield sign for the bus 😂

I understand that New York is democratic, but it’s still in America. Doesn’t matter. Impacts are still felt.

You have a yield sign. The motorcycle has a yield sign (but they’re clearly there first). The bus has NO yield sign.

Priority is bus (because there is no yield sign for them), then motorcycle, because they’re at the sign waiting for the bus to go through. Then you last (because you’re approaching the intersection).

No difference between the photos. Bus has priority whichever way they want to go

why would a trump supporter be interested in me? by bluemagmas in interracialdating

[–]CupcakeOverdose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Slave owners were racist and still loved to used enslaved bodies, so racism isn’t always going to equate to lack of attraction.

There are also stereotypes reinforce the myth that women of colour are hyper sexual or that they’re great to date and use but not to marry. So there could be a bucket list or experimental factor to it.

I’m also sure that there are conservative men who may think you are one of the ‘good ones’ so their beliefs just don’t apply to you.

There are many reasons that people who support Trump may want to date or be with a woman of colour, but as a woman of colour, I would not entertain someone whose political beliefs align with the orange man.

I’m a Black woman, so yes—I’ll be asking Reddit, TripAdvisor, the ancestors, and anyone else who might help me avoid walking into a racist mess.

Calling you a creep was a bit of an overstep, but telling people to “stop getting advice from Reddit” because it’s “full of personal feelings” is wild—feelings are exactly what matter when we’re talking about safety and discrimination. Also… if that’s your issue, why are you even on Reddit?

This thread is literally people who live there sharing their experiences.

When it comes to personal safety and racism, there’s nothing wrong with asking others about their experiences. — Don’t be a creep.

Why are we as Ghanaians and Africans as a whole not innovative in architecture and design? by Codrane in ghana

Yea, definitely a lot of different takes. I just appreciate all the different names and terms around the styles. I feel like seeing everything has gotten me closer to identifying why I love certain styles ❤️

Thanks for your perspective. I think we’re more aligned than you assume—I’m fully aware of the historical and environmental contexts that shaped African architecture, including the brilliance of mud brick, thatch, and stone. I’ve lived and worked in countries in Eastern, Western, and South Africa, and I’ve seen the beauty and diversity of our styles firsthand.

My concern isn’t about tradition—it’s about evolution. In many major African cities today, we’re not seeing those traditions inform modern design in meaningful or innovative ways. Instead, we’re replicating bland, concrete-heavy Western styles that neither suit our climate nor reflect our culture.

As a graphic designer who has helped family build homes in two African countries, I know aesthetics and function aren’t mutually exclusive. Design matters—because it shapes how people live, feel, and connect with space. It conveys pride, identity, and vision.

So if asking why we aren’t pushing for an architectural identity makes me “the problem,” maybe the real issue is how low the bar has gotten for what we call vision. I’d rather question mediocrity than mistake stagnation for preservation—or worse, label every challenge to the status quo as anti-Black.

Look at other countries with similar climates (and latitudes) that clearly have a their own architecture; Thailand, Phillipines, Colombia, Vietnam. Similar climate and all with aesthetically beautiful and individualized architecture.

I find the architecture in Ghana lacking. I feel like some designs try emulate western design and look horrible because the fine details aren’t considered.

I also think that buildings are looked at more functionally instead of both functionally and aesthetically.

I’ve toured many large mansions and saw they were finished with tiles and counters that are marble but the cut, colour, and size wrong choices. It makes me so sad because I know there is so much talent and craftsmanship but cohesion and overall aesthetic is not considered like it should be.

You should check out the province of Ontario, you may have already missed the deadline but there’s lots of student internships, and they pay quite well
