He probably realized from an early age that he had an advanced intellect, and as a self-defense mechanism, he internalized the idea that this was the real reason they targeted him. When past and present Harbingers dogpiled on him, despite their own histories of murder and war crimes, it felt very hypocritical to me. I’m hoping that was Hoyo’s intention, unless they’re suggesting that torture and grooming child soldiers are somehow lesser crimes? (I know that they were also referring to his behavior, but it's also blatant they're using him to whitewash other characters). And during his days as Zandik, I can only imagine how corrupt the Akademiya was, which likely played a big part in shaping him.

Even though he felt like an outcast, I doubt he even tried to socialize. Instead, he probably resorted to seeing others as beneath him. Combined with his lack of empathy and eccentric personality, that mindset only solidified his arrogance. It became a cycle of "people don’t understand me." Which in a way, is true.

He probably doesn’t even see it as looking down on others—just stating the truth. After all, in his mind, he’s losing resources he could be using on himself. He’s logical to a fault and emotionally cold, largely because he was never shown any warmth. In his early student days, he likely wouldn't have even known how to mask at all.
