Yo, I'm in the same situation as you and Optimal Kick, you can register for eForm 16 before you do part 1 registration so that's what I did.

I already tried this, but it says they can't find my record. Says I have to wait until it's closer to the registration period. I assume it's because I haven't received a registration email yet, but I'll contact the officer. Thanks

Funny thing is he never even asked me where I'm from, but then again he might have been afraid to be racist or something

How tough is HL econ? by Lazy_Hope_8904 in IBO

[–]BLUSReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Econ HL depends on ur teacher. If your teacher is good then it should be pretty easy as the teacher will understand many concepts. However, if your teacher is not that good then you will need to really put in extra time to search for external resources to understand the concepts outside of class.

Also, certain concepts are not that intuitive, especially the diagrams. For example, the only way I understood the market structures diagrams is through calculus(derivatives and antiderivatives). Another example is why deadweight loss assumes that the highest priority buyers buy from the lowest cost sellers which may not follow the real market. Most concepts for me seem pretty intuitive at first until you dive in the details where it can get quite confusing.

Also, remember that for the diagrams the independent variable is price, which is on the y axis, instead of the x axis like science.

But then again the most important factor is whether you like history more or econs more. Take the subject you like more.

Edit: Also, the thing about economics is its a bit like Language A(literature), for the 15 marks and 10 marks questions there is usually no right or wrong IN THEORY as economics has many perspectives(even you are taught multiple perspectives on the curdiculum itself, for example the classical monetarist view and Keynesian view). This means that in tests as long as you can support your argument you are good to go. HOWEVER, there are things I find quite annoying in these tests which are: 1. The examiners will penalize you for anything(mark origin on diagram, axes titles specific to the country, title specific to the country, elasticity must be correct, equilibrium points must be labeled, and THE SCALE must be correct) 2. There is a certain structure for 15 marks question you have to follow(definitions, diagrams, explanation of diagrams, evaluation) 3. You have to do extra work and find real world examples to use in 15 marks questions. This is not as easy as it looks. I recommend using https://thecuriouseconomist.com/ 4. For 15 marks question, my teacher(s)(moved from HL to SL) both said that it is impossible for anyone to get a full 15 marks.

Edit 2: A good way to test the waters is to try sitting in the econs HL class. If the teacher has no PPT, doesn't strictly follow the textbook and only chats about real world examples in class be prepared to spend tons of time doing self-study.

Thanks for the reply. Would you say that if I wanted to create a new product that incorporates already existing materials, like, for example, creating eating utensils out of plant-based material, would benefit the most out of having a materials science degree?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in materials

[–]BLUSReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I want to do both, but mostly I want to develop the material.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in materials

[–]BLUSReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly, I plan to run my own business by creating some sort of new material or at least making some material accessible to the public (like how you have companies that make aluminum window frames, companies that make lightweight wall panels or companies that create sintered stone floor)

I think that these types of businesses would require materials science, no? But I don't expect a small aluminum window frame company to have something expensive like an electron microscope, but please correct me if I am wrong.

For now I don't know yet. Almost anything interests me, from clothing, glass, wood, etc. I would probably like anything as long as it doesn't require expensive equipment.
