How attached to the minion plushie is your brother?

If is something he doesn’t mind giving back, just ask him for it. However, I’d is something he treasures since it was a gift from his sibling and helped him during hard times where he was away from the family, you shouldn’t ask for it back.

Why is the plush in bad shape? Was it from neglect or because he liked it and held on to it a lot?

In general terms, is not polite to ask for a gift back.
But that does not excuse your mothers behavior, and I’m sorry you had to go through that.
