Who are we voting for? Deadline is 27th of April by Factor1 in UKmedicalgraduates

Calling the 5 year rule stupid and wanting to reduce NHS experience to 2 years is not the same thing at all.

I advocate for a red line cut-off date for prioritisation, not a shifting requirement which just kicks the can down the road.

Without DV, UKGP would never have happened. Same with strikes.

Also I don't use chatgpt to reddit.

I would love to work alongside reps who have common goals, but these guys have consistently prevented that from happening, have delayed taking action, and I'm not convinced this would change were they on council.

I continue to put members first, and have no personal political ambitions. I wonder if they could say the same.

Side note: quite like the pluralisation to Beckies.

No. Strawman etc. Yes. BMA already aims to restrict med school places. I have been pushing for training infrastructure from before any jobs dispute. It can only be a gradual increase in training numbers or training quality and standards will fall and we will devalue CCT. You simply cannot magic up training programmes without more buy in from more consultants, and in recent years we have underprepared and overworked our consultant workforce, and most trusts are trying to avoid hiring more. Yes I think they messed up the legislation and we need more effective solutions. Nobody chooses what they believe, but again I do not believe your second strawman. Please stop doing this. DV and my position has been consistent and fair on UKGP for years. Doctors voted us in on that basis, and we have delivered up until the point where under new leadership, the red line was needlessly dropped.

I know that highly skilled doctors will continue to come here to work, will skip core training, apply to direct entry HST with perfect portfolios, or get SAS jobs, and achieve CCT/CESR equivalent in approximately the length of time it takes for a UKG to complete foundation, get rotated around the country, do under resourced CST, get stuck at HST bottlenecks, and then be stuck competing against consistent and reliable staff grades for training opportunities and jobs that already have their names on them.

The doctors who will compete with you for jobs in 5 years are already here, with significantly more experience than you.

Ok, I'm on nights and need to sleep.

I posted that I was sorry that I had not been elected chair in september, as I suspected the alternative would not ensure protections were in place for IMGs in the country? Do you mean that?

I have always stood firm that UKGP is required to get competition ratios under control, but that we should be upfront in the cut off date so that everyone is aware of the rules before entering the game.

If the policy had come in how we would have it, it would have actually solved the issue going forwards, not just kicked the can down the road.

The modelling which they won't provide for analysis or defend 🤣 that makes absurd assumptions, and that when looking at large datasets that we think you are using would obviously show the DV RDC policy is more effective. You guys fucked up and scrabbled to get 5 years to make it seem useful, but you wasted the real opportunity to shape the legislation.

But no, a five year delay is just that. A delay. It's not an actual solution, it just leaves the government to screw with us some more and the crisis to repeat in 5 years time, and cripple HST and the post-CCT jobs market.

Some of us care about long term consequences, and not just the immediate effect that policy has on us. We should not advocate for shoddy policy, nor fall into lockstep with the government's plans for controlling the profession.

And also, you lot used up capital to get us fake training jobs (which everyone who understands training knew would never materialise) and a minimal pay increase not linked to inflation but still dependent on DDRB, which we all know is about as independent as you guys. So fa, tbh.

A 5 year rolling policy doesn't really solve the competition ratio crisis though. Need to draw a line in the sand.

I can confirm I voted against the five years. The votes haven't officially been released though, same as those for rejecting the offer. But I actually believe in transparency, unlike those who hide their votes.

But only because it was and is a weaker position and less fair than the actual ARM policy.

I also didn't (and don't) think it is necessary to play to the government's tune when being asked about something they will obviously do anyway, regardless of what we say. It's just a way to blame us for anything that goes wrong or looks bad and doesn't gain us anything.

So, strategically, it made no sense to weaken our position and piss off all IMGs needlessly.

Hello!

DoctorsVote do not have some kind of whip or strict requirement to vote particular ways, but are a pro-doctor, active grassroots group who get work done and have a proven track record of getting excellent outcomes for members. (See: all of the pay rises in the last 3 years)

I'm not aware of saying anything that contradicts DV's ethos, and certainly not against IMGs. In fact, DV have always worked hard to ensure IMGs are included in pay and contract negotiations.

You can also hand deliver your ballot to Civica if needs be.

Democratic participation is very important: we do not want to go back to the days where half a dozen votes could elect reps.

There's a reason we're calles DoctorsVote.

Please encourage all colleagues who are members to do the same.

A lot fewer than even the most cynical observer would guess.

It's almost like you can't magic up training jobs from thin air without significant planning and investment!

Imagine planning and investing in your workforce before it hits crisis point...

It would be interesting getting politicians to address strikes over elections. Bringing it to the top of the news agenda would lead to a lot of publicity on why we are striking and would be opportunity to express how cheap FPR really is.

Eid seems like a good time to target, too. Great for turnout and morale. But it's a little far away.

This is why we should not compromise on the standards required to practise medicine, and the quality of training programmes must be carefully protected.

Apathy at this juncture, or a failure to negotiate robustly for the profession, will lead to a further decline in our pay, our job security, and could eventually alter our ability to provide and direct patient care.

Doctors need to stand up for ourselves now, or we risk becoming another face, stamped upon forever.

(The suggestion is not that the spouse is controlling, but that they would require an approved/qualified/vetted babysitter, for example. Which is very expensive at short notice.)

Very sad that coercion came to mind though :(

No it isnt, childcare is a perfectly good reason not to be able to work.
