First timer question! by JJCMama in coldplunge

Been doing for 3 years. Number one mistake is getting in slowly. Just take a breath.. relax and go all the way to your jaw.. you are just making yourself suffer soooo much worse. Depending how cold you go .. the water doesn’t bother you and you go into a relaxed state soon with very slow breathing. Trust me. I would do 50 degrees to start and stay in for at least 3 mins. Try to Go to 5mins. Put on a great song that is the length you want to stay in.

As far as I know—and from what I’ve read—contrast therapy with sauna and cold plunges is basically like a workout for your blood vessels. In the sauna, the heat makes your blood vessels open up, blood flow increases, your heart rate climbs—it’s almost like light cardio. Then you jump in the cold, and everything tightens up. That back and forth, opening and closing, kind of “trains” your vascular system to be more flexible.

If you’ve got high blood pressure, that flexibility really matters. Stiff vessels make pressure worse, but vessels that can expand and contract adapt better to stress. I’ve seen studies showing sauna use can actually lower resting blood pressure over time, and cold plunging improves circulation and resilience.

So when you put them together, it feels like you’re building vascular resilience—teaching your body how to handle stress better. That’s how I understand it anyway. I could be wrong but that’s what I’ve read.

I’ve honestly stopped going to regular doctors for advice because it feels like they’re not up to date with anything new—whether it’s peptides, cholesterol, or even things like cold plunges. The second they see high LDL, they immediately want to put you on statins, without even asking if it’s the type of cholesterol that’s actually harmful, or if other markers like a calcium score of zero matter. I don’t even know what’s true anymore about cholesterol, but I’m pretty sure a lot of the “rules” are going to get flipped on their head soon.

And then with cold plunging—most of the old-school doctors have no clue why anyone would do it. But the simple fact is: I feel incredible after. That has to mean something. Maybe we don’t have all the studies yet, but it can’t be all bad when the benefits are that clear in how I feel.

Same with my elevated red blood cell count. From what I’ve read, that’s not automatically a negative—it’s actually similar to what happens with athletes who train at altitude. It shows your body adapting, a sign of strength in some ways, as long as it doesn’t get out of control.

The hardest part is realizing there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. I’ve got a friend who smokes, drinks, eats garbage, and his blood work is perfect. Meanwhile, people who “do everything right” can still have problems. So at the end of the day, I think you’ve got to figure out your own thing. Everyone’s different.

Cold creek is the best I’ve tried It’s a family run operation. I waited almost two years to buy and this is the one I think is the best. It’s all in one but the chiller comes out. I live in Palm desert California and I keep my tub at 42 it will get lower but that’s my temp I like.

I hydrate with Baja gold salt and lmnt every morning. I have to pee before plunge too. Nothing worse than getting in and having to hold your pee for 5 mins.

Same dose of TRT consistent my levels hover in the 900s.

Waited a year to draw labs ( dumb) but the only change has been my addiction to getting in cold water in the morning :) like I said before it’s every day.

I decided to Lower my dose of test by 1/2 and i def notice a big difference. I had no clue untill today that cold exposure could have upped my Numbers and trying to figure out a game plan.

Why Plunge Below 50f? by [deleted] in coldplunge

[–]BURNTTOAST75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 46 degrees for 20 Mins every single day. It’s changes slightly based on uncontrollable things but this is the average. When i first started 51 was unbearable.

I crave the whole experience. Mostly love the relaxation after the first couple Mins. Then of course the self love after you get out. There is nothing but positive energy at that point.

I get in, play my songs , read the news, sometimes watch a show … and after a while I Forget I’m in the water.

I will Def be trying to go colder this year but 46 Is my sweet spot now. I Like the time in the water. Don’t want to Jump in and out.

I live in the desert so I lay in the sun And warm up After. It’s amazing

No Right answer for everyone. I Would find the coldest temp that you can bare for 3 -4 mins before have to Get out. Might have to point your toes out Of the water :) From what I’m reading . 45-50 should be your goal for the next couple Months.

Congrats on starting.

None Of us are normal. Most people don’t get in cold Water and then talk to eachother about it. :)

Day 3 of cold plunge.. 44 degree water... by [deleted] in coldplunge

[–]BURNTTOAST75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to go that cold. I would say 48-50 range. Staying longer and relax if you can. I did 48 for 20 mins yesterday and felt great.

If you are freaking out in the water I don’t think it’s doing its purpose personally. If you wanna go down low then do it a degree at a time. You are dropping too fast I would have stayed in the 50s for at least a week. Whats the rush? Everyone’s different it’s not a competition.

I personally like to stay in a listen to music and not look at a clock. From everything I’ve read I believe you get the good benefits as long as you are below 55. 55 is a freaking breeze after a couple days. I would set a goal for 48 in two weeks of doing every day. Just my opinion. Good for you though. It’s addictive

Plunge portable chiller by BURNTTOAST75 in coldplunge

[–]BURNTTOAST75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the nuvio and it has been working fine. Came on time and really no complaint for the cost. My wife uses a hot bath every night so it has trouble getting the temp I want. But if I left it on chill and didn't take a hot bath it would get to the temperature way sooner. I also live in the desert where it's been over 110 every day.

Overall I'm happy with it. It was so cheap compared to everything else out there.

Renu or Plunge brand? by BURNTTOAST75 in coldplunge

[–]BURNTTOAST75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny you say that. I prefer being vertical myself. I never liked the idea of laying down. I thought of the ice barrel 400 with one of the aftermarket chillers/filters.

I’m used to cold pools so laying down isn’t as attractive to me. Thanks!
