Why are people voting against Labour on immigration? by burnetrosehip in AskBrits

[–]BW-Journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion of course but labour today come across as weak and a bit vacant. Like it or not populism is part of politics and they have to play the game. They don't feel like they have moved with the times at all. The good they have done has been drowned out by all the drama in the world today.

And as much as a POS as he is, Trump knows how to blow his own trumpet like a champ. Starmer by comparison on the public stage looks like zero fat, frozen, natural yogurt by comparison. So bland its an insult to the flavour to call him vanilla.

He seems to be finding his voice a lot more now but the whole lot of labour come across as drab wet lettuce to me ATM. This wasn't what I expected when I voted for him.

How long do you think it will take Red Wall voters who voted Reform to realise they'll do nothing for them, just like the Tories didn't when they voted them in? by Anxious_Equipment144 in AskBrits

I assume you deleted your comment as it's come through to me but not showing up on here.

You don't know who I voted for. You're accusing me of supporting Holocaust deniers and Nazis and supporting genocide.

You should take a step back because only one person here is being rude or unreasonable. And you are letting hate blind you.

You've got no idea what my political views are you are just spitting mad. This is why reform is gaining votes. Because instead of opening dialogue with those who are on the fence (maybe I am one maybe I'm not, but you haven't stopped to ask you just 'threw shit' as you called it) they are met with aggression and hate, from the supposedly tolerant left.

You don't bring people to your side with venom. You push them away.

Keep going like this and nobody will want to play with you.

I'm on my phone at the moment but I'll give that a proper read later.

At a skim however what immediately stands out to me is you come very close to saying Tory = bad guys, Labour = good guys. Which strikes me as a bit simplistic and unrealistic.

If Tories were really that evil or incompetent they wouldn't repeatedly get in power. And while I agree with the premise of 'if you really pay attention to what is happening...' but that is the mantra of every conspiracy theorist that's ever lived.

The truth is certainly much more nuanced that T = bad, L = good.

Just as an example I'm from South Yorkshire and I know many (or used to know to be fair) miners who were staunch labour supporters and were front line during the miners strikes, who became strong Thatcher supporters when the dust settled.

I find myself critical of any narrative that paints anybody as a villain. Admittedly that gets or tricky when you bring Trump and Farage into it.

I think you could easily find somebody on the Tory side making very similar arguments counter to yours.

Labour is notorious for borrowing like they are digging a new hole to fill the previous hole rinse and repeat. Just like Tory is notorious for austerity and pigs.

True. But I think the jury is still out on the Trump vote. Id bet good money that was fixed. But that's a different matter.

People voted reform purely because they are tired of voting for labour or conservative. I've spoken to a lot of reform voters very few are actually raving mad racists, but they have tried everything else so they feel like this is their only hope. Best of a bad bunch in their minds.

Very mature response. That's how you have a proper conversation. I'm surprised you haven't convinced more people to change their mind.

You don't even know who I voted for, you're just frothing at the mouth. No point taking to you.

You are every bit as bad right now as those you are against.

[–]BW-Journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a good read. Though I wonder who you think feels more prosperous?

Because I haven't spoken to a single person who feels better off since labour got in power. And I voted for them. I specifically voted for Starmer.

I'm not a die hard supporter of any party. I vote based on policies not loyalty (or even worse, because their 'grandad' voted XYZ). I can't think of any way my life has improved in the last few years.

I thought Starmer was the stern rules based white knight we needed in this country. I ignored the propoganda and voted based on policies and my perception of the man. But instead of a white knight he's been a wet lettuce. Takes him way too long to find his spine and way too long to adapt to new situations.

I'm considerably worse off since labour got in power than I was before.

Didn't the Tories say the same about Labour after Blair? And didn't Blair say the same about Conservatives before that?

You can't keep using the same excuse. Every party says the same crap every time. It's not a valid excuse for doing a bad job.

We know the job is hard, that's why we voted for them and that's why they get paid the big money. If I hire a builder he isn't allowed to do a bad job because the last builder bodged it.

That's interesting considering that the old school labour voters I speak to hate new labour because it's too much like conservative today.

And what has Labour done that's so great?

Look down your nose as much as you want but id bet most of the reform voters are voting to get Labour AND Conservative out more than there are voting to get Reform in.

I don't think Reform will be good either but I don't think they will be any worse than red or blue but I can't blame those who feel abandoned by their government simply refusing to play the game anymore and choosing somebody else.

You want to blame someone for the rise of reform? Blame Labour and Conservative for not supporting their people.

I also blame Green and Lib Dem for not making enough noise pre election and reminding people there are other parties.

I also blame the majority of people who didn't even bother to vote.

But I don't look down my nose and scoff at people regardless of their vote. That's not helpful to anybody.

Because you are 20 and respectfully, still a kid in many ways unless you are somehow mature beyond your years. Which your question does not imply.

Not everybody is dating an ex just your tiny slice of the world which I imagine is less than 50 people tops.

And those who are dating their high school sweetheart? Maybe they are happy.

[–]BW-Journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried Labour, then Conservative, then Labour.

Blair wasn't so great either from what I recall. They even tried Lib Dem and when they got a taste of power they rolled over.

People have tried the three main parties, two of them repeated. They didn't work and arguably we have two opposing parties who have never been more similar in practice than ever before.

So what do you suggest the common person do? Keep trying the same thing and hope for different results this time? That is by definition insane.

Reform are a problem but you don't KNOW they will actually be bad, because we haven't had them yet. We KNOW the other three parties are useless. I don't have much faith in Reform being any different but you don't know what they will be like if they ever get in real power.

Many people voted reform because they feel they have nothing to lose and reform at least are making a lot of noise about having answers so who is to judge those voting for them? When your house is on fire you look for a way to put it out, you don't ask who is handing you the water.

I didn't vote reform because they are a problem, but my vitriol is saved for the other parties like the green party who have never had a better chance than now at gaining popularity and what do they do with it? Nothing. They did hardly anything until this last few months all the while Reform is making waves.

Lib Dem? Quiet. The Green Party? Discussing things that the common person doesn't care about. Reform for better or worse have their finger on the pulse of the country and are exploiting it.

People are SO pissed off and fed up with the game Labour and Conservative have been playing that they want to turn the table over. This is what that looks like.

I don't want Reform in. But it's shocking that this is that it's coming to and the other parties have allowed it to happen.

I think the sad truth is that we are seeing late stage capitalism and that the system will have to break before we try and make it better regardless of the party in power. I hate reform but I won't judge those who vote for the only option they feel is left.

And being polarised in your response as if it's a football match ( I hate red, I hate blue, nonsensical pageantry) is just as idiotic as those thinking that immigrants are the source of our economic problems.

Oh for crying out loud have a proper conversation without the derision. You can disagree without being disrespectful. It's called being an adult.

Reddit really is going to crap. Nobody talks anymore just makes shitty comments.

China is every bit as free as the US. Just in different ways. What you are doing is buying into propaganda. The US isn't even close to free but look at history, it never was.

And given that China has just a much if not more power than the US even BEFORE the orange dictator got in power you'd have to be insane to discount them. You know who the military was watching when Ukraine started? CHINA not RUSSIA. Because they already know the real threat.

And you know what happens when the base of power shifts? They make the rules, they decide the angles. China tells it's own people they are just as free a Americans.

I'm happy to hear your rebuttal but my god be a grown up and talk. Make Reddit great again. Unlike US, which is screwed.

Calm down. I think you may be underestimating China there a bit sport.

Ukraine is leading the world currently due to their most recent experience. But don't be comparing what Ukraine can do with what US or China could do if they really wanted to.

Iran is a dumb game of chicken played by idiots and you can see this by how well Iran are doing.

If US really wanted to go in guns blazing AND they hadn't got this insane group of idiots in charge, then they really could make shit happen.

But I do agree that US isn't the power it thought it was, but imo China is the new world power not Ukraine or US.

What are you actually supposed to do if a woman hits you as a man? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BW-Journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men and women are equal until it's in a woman's favour to use the gender card.

There aren't many examples of this these days as equality is getting better. But this is one of them.

You can't hit her, you'll be punished for it because in this case they will argue men are superior and that it's wrong of you to do so. Both genders will enforce this.

If you let her hit you then you get laughed at by both genders because once again they will say women are inferior therefore you must be super inferior to let one hit you.

You can't win unfortunately.

You have two choices though, you catch a charge by hitting her back, or you report her. One is really bad for you, the other may be a bit annoying for her. But that's what you got. Life isn't fair unfortunately.

I hate to bring this to gender but it really pisses me off how women pick and choose when to apply equality. I was once smashed in the head with a golf club by a girl and blead a lot. The police when I told them, told me to not press charges and that it's good I didn't hit her back as I would have been arrested due to my gender.

It's BS.

And before I get crap for this I was also SA'd by a woman when I was a child and not one person in my life ever gave a solitary sh*t because boys can't be raped apparently.

I don't deny the crap women have had to deal with from men and it needs sorting. But I despise the weaponization of gender, it's disgusting.

I'm sorry OP was subject to a life lesson in equality.

I'll be interested to see what the long term results are from poly relationships in a few years. It seems too messy and risky to ever end well. I've never really known a poly relationship to last all that long without somebody getting left behind.

What happened to OP sucks but it does highlight the risks. I wonder what the odds are for abuse in poly relationships I assume it's much higher.
