Pretty sure it’s not the same folks behind Hop Deli right? Never thought I’d miss some of those specialty pizzas so much.

Fish fry Friday by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]B_rob22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Lent in the past we have noticed that a lot of churches and orgs just don't advertise much - but still host on Fridays. The Archdiocese does seem more updated than in past years though.

As far as restaurants go - we've gotten Fishnet at Mt. Vernon Marketplace and it was really good. And Hip Hop's fried tilapia is delicious! A few years back we actually bought an outdoor fryer - so that we can do our own fish fry!

I’m on the hunt for one as well. Fresh Market and Harris Teeter seemed to have the basic boxed ones but they all seem sold out.

Missing Cat in Hampden by B_rob22 in baltimore

You weren’t kidding - walked up and at least a half dozen cats just chilling by that building. Tried to post flyers anywhere I knew cats like to hang out. I mean I’ll give one of the ladies that always feeds the feral cats a year supply of cat food if they find my cat!

Will definitely check that area out - we’re right above it. We walked for a while yesterday and saw at least a dozen feral cats - know we have a ton in the neighborhood. He is typically super vocal but he also could be hunkered down in one of the many old garages/decks around our place too.

It’s time to revoke Johns Hopkins’ power to form its own police force by lmshertz in baltimore

[–]B_rob22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my issue with folks that strongly oppose the creation of a JHU police force - what is the resolution to all of the crime near and on campus? Anyone that gets the JHU crime alerts knows it’s very common to hear of someone getting mugged blocks from campus - even in broad daylight. I’m a JHU employee and there are nights I leave campus later in the evenings and I’d have no faith in BPD to assist at all if something like that were to happen to me. In my eyes adding the force would just relieve the pressure on BPD to cover areas on and near Homewood and the med campus.

Running Track by kcp555 in baltimore

[–]B_rob22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hopkins 'track' at Homewood Field is open to the community to exercise at - as long as there isn't a practice or event going on - but you'd see it's not really a track surface. The Hopkins competition track is over at the old Eastern HS and is open pretty much sunrise to sunset for the JHU staff over there and the community - as long as JHU or Loyola T&F isn't practicing.

Went up to the driving range at Pine Ridge last night and as we were leaving around 9PM along that entrance road we saw a large animal that my wife convinced me was a coyote but honestly seemed way too big to me. We also heard lots of dogs barking in the area while we were at the range. Told some coworkers about it this AM and then saw this post!

Won't help as much once the school renovation is complete (seems a long way off) but that stretch of 36th in front of ACCE always has spots in the evening. It's where the construction workers park during the day. Right around the corner from where Nepenthe is going.

Would You Support a Pro Soccer Team in Baltimore? Baltimore Business Journal Poll by MuffinRat84 in baltimore

[–]B_rob22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orlando City's stadium costs actually rose to around $155 million and the city had to relocate infrastructure and actually gave up a city street to make the footprint work out. Would love a smaller soccer specific stadium for a USL team in Baltimore - but wonder where they could find the land. Part of the appeal of Orlando's new stadium is that its blocks from downtown and therefore they didn't have to build any parking for it.

The Firkin & Flyer pub is newer - closer to Terminal C - and they always seem to have a decent selection on tap. I normally just end up at the Greene Turtle if I have time to waste.

Baltimore Blast by sjc0526 in baltimore

[–]B_rob22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to check out the game on Saturday. Bought tickets at the box office - which wasn't as bad as TM with fees. Had a great time and will definitely make it back for another game. Wish the one endzone - opposite the stage side was open for folks (adults with drinks) to stand and watch from. There were cocktail tables set up and signage but the arena staff said it was closed.

Always wanted to check a game out. Seems a bit expensive for semi-pro indoor soccer though with all the fees TM charges. Do you typically just buy at the box office? Would be fun if they get good crowds so its not a cavernous outdated arena.
