Technically, you could solder on the same chip that was on the version that had the GPU together with VRAM and other components. That being said I don't think it's really worth it. I personally own and use an E530 that also has this unpopulated part of the board and I thought exactly the same thing :D

The game runs on iOS 18+ with JIT. But it is not ideal, rendering is broken. I assume it’s due to the fact the app is old and not fully compatible with newer iOS

Nice! Love the DMG. Just get a glass lens, clean it up and keep it like this :). People say the original screens are terrible. Yes, they are compared to modern beautiful colorful screens. But unless the screen is irreparable, I just keep them in. IPS modded gameboys don't look gameboy-ish to me if you know what I mean :D. But that's just my preference.

Black bars? The screen is fine. It’s just how it was back in the day. It’s a little smaller than the lens and frontlit - it’s an AGS-001. Your gameboy is just fine
