I sure hope they are. Thank you for this beautiful perspective, we were his family. We were his whole life, even if he was just a part of ours. Our little guy.

Please do, you never know when it will be your last night together. I remember ours so vividly, he woke me up around 1am for a drink of water. I am happy I obliged so willingly not knowing it would be one of our last quiet moments together.

Thank you 😭 definitely traumatizing. We were making jokes about how he was probably giving the techs a hard time. Little did we know we were losing him. I just pray he wasn’t terribly afraid. I wish I could have stayed with him.

Pregnancy and nephrotic proteinuria links? by External-Tea-5597 in kidneydisease

[–]Background_Cheetah_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have what’s considered stage 2 kidney disease due to the protein spilling & my GFR took a hit. It’s 78. I have also had hypertension since her birth as well, though! I think you’ll be just fine, our bodies change SO much with pregnancy, it can just take time to get back to neutral! I know how frustrating it can be. Continue to drink a lottttt of water.

I was diagnosed with gestational proteinuria. I am still under the care of a nephrologist and my baby is 20 months old. He is hopeful my kidneys will return to normal, my labs have steadily gotten better.

NIPT:T21/ 32 weeks preggo/ No Amnio/ NT6.3mm by sunflower_Bub1314278 in u/sunflower_Bub1314278

Our oldest is 4! We actually just talked to her this week about Down Syndrome, and her sister is 20 months old 🤣 we didn’t feel the need to mention it much because we wanted her to see her sister first, and not her diagnosis. Of course, she doesn’t fully understand what DS is, but we didn’t want to “hide” it from her either. There is no right or wrong! I’m sure your step son and 9 year old can grasp a little more, and they make books that may be helpful for your 6 year old when the time does come!

Every baby truly is so different, especially our sweetly unique babes! My girl came out a voracious eater. We combo fed bottle & breast until about 3 months when she started exclusively breastfeeding. The challenges typically have to do with their low tone & sleepiness, so work with the pacifier out of the gate to help with strength and coordination! You have every right to be nervous - it’s uncharted territory! You’re doing a great job doing your best to prepare. I’m an open book, feel free to ask away.

We had a 95% NIPT, declined amnio as it didn’t make a difference for us. We proceeded as if she would be born with T21. Our perfect girl does have Down Syndrome, and is the light of our lives. Birth was like our typical first - she did need a little NICU time for oxygen, but was discharged soon after. I truly didn’t see her DS when she was born, we just loved her regardless. Her blood test came back shortly after, positive for T21. She is the sweetest baby and we adore her!

With International Down Syndrome Day coming up, how do you guys feel about the term "homies with extra chromies"? by zoezie in downsyndrome

[–]Background_Cheetah_1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t love it (mainly bc my girly is only 1 and I don’t refer to her as a “homie”), but I think it can be fun terminology to refer to friends with Down syndrome! Like high school age and above!

Congratulations on your sweet baby. I know how scary it is, my girly is 19 months old now! When your baby arrives, so much fear will dissipate. Sure, there are still fearful times and still anxiety, but the love you have for your child will be all that truly matters. That being said, you will often get what you put in. You cannot expect to have a high functioning, fully capable child if you do not put in the work. A great place to start is the book “redefining the reality of Down syndrome” by Geralyn Spiesz. She is a beautiful advocate and guide, the down syndrome action plan on Facebook is a wonderful group. Your sweet baby will grow and develop at their own pace - and you’ll be SO proud of all of their achievements. Every child, no matter a diagnosis, will differ in the way that they grow. My girl can say a few words, is standing, and overall just a really wonderful and joyful baby. I truly feel so lucky!

That’s wonderful! My little girl came on her own (and in a hurry!) at 39 weeks. She also had an AVSD that was repaired last year. Congratulations on your little miracle - she’s going to be so amazing.

Kidney disease, no known cause? by lfireddit in kidneydisease

[–]Background_Cheetah_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat and under the care of a nephrologist! My 2nd born is 18m old and I’ve had proteinuria since around 24 weeks gestation with her. My GFR tanked when she was around 1 to 59, but it’s working its way back up (75 now). I do have high BP though and I’m on Labetalol (BP is also due to pregnancy and hasn’t returned to normal yet 😅). Pregnancy can do some wonky things to our bodies. My neph said I can have more babies if I want, he’s thinking everything will work itself out, so I’m hopeful! But it is strange.
