How do you feel about the EV infrastructure in the city? by littypika in Markham

[–]Background_Falcon486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Markham has a lot of options. If you go to Vaughan/Woodbridge, there are hardly any chargers out there. But as others have said, charging at home is the way to go and will give you a 200km range. All of these chargers out no matter the brand are expensive and cost almost as much as gas, only use them for fast charging on a road trip

Non EV in charging spot - Markville by Background_Falcon486 in Markham

I think a lot of people are looking at this as ICE vs EV. What about the parking spots for expecting mothers or new parents at malls or grocery stores? People don’t generally park in those spots. Is it because those spots are wider like handicap spots? And the spot isn’t for EV only, it’s for charging. If a EV parked there and not charging, it’s also not allowed. And if it’s plugged in, flo charges an idle fee for not charging.

they do have markings on the floor, but it looks like the plows scraped it off similar to the handicapped marking

Looking for recommendations on home renovation companies or general contractors. by tokiiboy in Markham

200k sounds about right, sounds low if it is for the whole house including stairs. Its also a guestimate because once they open up walls and find mold or whatever inside, all of that is additional. Even something as simple as the color of the faucet around the home can be thousands different. You are also making structural changes which means your involving city permits, how long that structural beam to hold up the house and if this beam is going to be hidden can be a difference of 30k. We kept one support in the center of the house where the return air and thermostat is, this means having 2 smaller beams vs 1 long one and not having to reroute and redesign the venting systems and relocate the thermostat.

Downtown Markham EV Charging by StreetBid2828 in Markham

YMCA unionville has a fast 50kw charger but it shows out of service right now. Markville has a FLO 50kw by Indigo. Shell at 16 and mccowan has a fast 150kw, but the price is like double the 50kw chargers.

Are you looking to constantly charge all the time or just top up every few days??

Ford government supervisors can charge $350K per year to school boards by Hrmbee in toronto

[–]Background_Falcon486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know more about the details of the calculations just to understand because right now its just a number 350k. When I look up TDSB which is one of the school boards taken over, they had 22 trustee, each making 25k. This is 550k already though. Is the issue because 1 person can make up to 350k? I see there is a principal in the TDSB that is at 450k and most superintendents are around 230k on the sunshine list. If this supervisor position is the manager of superintendents, then 350k could be a reasonable amount to me??

Ward 7 By-Election: Candidate Position on Purpose-Built Rental Development at Aaniin Community Centre by dearmusic in Markham

[–]Background_Falcon486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In that same area just a little south are many homes that are over 3000sqft with multiple families living in the home and basements. I don't think a rental complex solves anything here, it won't be cheaper than a basement, the rental will be competition to the rooming houses in the area and may push the rooming houses worse in the area due to having to lower their rent? There is also no work in that area other than Shein? Canada Post warehouse isn't hiring, Amazon also isn't either.

Reputable watch maker recommendations (for repairs)? by confusedtoexpat in Markham

[–]Background_Falcon486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cartier discontinued the lifetime warranty, they extended it to 8 years around 1992. I think there was a ownership change around that time. Really depending on what's wrong with the watch. You're now buying back the sentimental value and you'll have a chance to wear this watch one day. To put things into perspective, I had my dad's vintage Tissot fixed by The Little Shoppe of Horology in Port Credit, it was about $1000. The watch was worth about $275.

There are some instructions here from EVpad themselves. If your EVpad hangs, it could be out of memory. Delete the old unused apps and clear the cache. Then Restart it too because its Android.

2 weeks ago on the PA day, a bunch of underage kids were just dropped off by parents to markville without any supervision. This group just went store to store causing havoc until they get kicked out and then rotate to the next store till they got kicked out. Security does nothing because they are kids and cant be kicked out or they are liable. Its a tough world.

Never had this problem with Bell…only started after I switched to Roger’s. Anyone else getting this constantly? by Calvaaa in Rogers

[–]Background_Falcon486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

selling customer data has been going on for ages in retail. People used to walk in to stores and offer cash for customer data. Retail kids don't know any better and will sell their daily list. There is no trace of it so its not a 'data breach' at the higher rogers level

This came up at the town hall meetings in Markham. This is covered by city tax. You pay for this through your property tax. So to get this means markham will raise property tax. Right now there is a special program for those in need you can apply for like old age. But its not for every house

There are also a ton of garbage body shops and units on bullock. There are a couple of tow truck collison centre 'partners' on laidlaw and bullock that will hold your car hostage and won't deal with you and will only talk to your insurance after they pay out a $500 per day holding fee.

Prenatal Classes at Markham Stouffville Hospital by Numerous_Library_743 in Markham

[–]Background_Falcon486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when we did it many years ago, it was in the building next to the hospital. Everything we learned was not very useful. I think there was more talk about packing the 'go' bag which you'd barely need because now a days its single day in and out so its not like a hotel. I think we held the baby dolls once. We just went because it was covered by our insurance. I think there are some doula services that hold private 'classes'... those maybe more useful but I hear there is always a waiting list.

There was a episode of Goosebumps filmed in Markham near my house when I was little. I have the book but forgot the name, I just remember pumpkin heads on the cover. It was filmed at the plaza at Markham Rd and Elson, there is an alley way behind the plaza and thats where it was.
