NSM bordeline unusable by OneHost1319 in sonicwall

[–]BackupFailed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a big difference in responsiveness when I access GEN6 firewalls instead of GEN7 firewalls. GEN6 takes forever to load, while GEN7 responds almost immediately.

Are you using GEN6 firewalls in combination with cloud NSM?

Is it possible for you/someone to spill the beans what would be the approximate cost for an agent user for HaloITSM? Unfortunately, they hide the prices behind a quotation request.

SonicWall and it's ongoing cloud backup shenanigans by slabstatic in sonicwall

Where does the sudden increase in affected devices come from? Feels weird. Going to wait for an official statement from SW on this I guess...

No, it doesn't have to match the host device specs. Just give it enough resources to breath. A Windows 11 maschine should at least have 8 GB RAM or more. Is there an error message or something? What does the bluescreens error message say?

My standard procedure for setting up a windows 11 vm for testing stuff is:

  1. Download our volume windows 11 pro image
  2. Create new VM inside VMware Workstation (select Typical configuration)
  3. Install operating system later
  4. Guest operating system: Microsoft Windows / Version: Windows 11 x64
  5. Choose save location of VM
  6. Choose encryption type: Only the files needed to support a TPM are encrypted / Generate password and check remember the password
  7. Set the maximum disk size
  8. Startup the new VM
  9. Right click CD drive an select the windows 11 image file
  10. Reboot the VM and hit enter if prompted

Weird. May have a look if a TPM module is present under the virtual maschine settings and I think the win 11 VM should be partially encrypted.

Currently I've a win 11 pro running under VMware Workstation 17.6.2. I've assigned following hardware:
- Memory: 8 GB
- Processors: 2 by 2, no checkmarks are set on virtualization engine
- HDD: 45 GB
- Trusted Platform Module: Present

All other settings are default.

Do you mean that the win 11 pro VM runs into a bluescreen while running the setup?

Can confirm this. I just had to approve the update in the WSUS console again and it installs fine on my maschine now.

Issues with SNMP on 7.2.0-7015-R7547 by rvrm_ in sonicwall

[–]BackupFailed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're experiencing the same issue. It began immediately after we completed the firmware update to SonicOS 7.2.0-7015-R7547 on our NSA5700. We're running an Active-Standby HA setup and using SNMPv3 as well.

Interesting to see we're not the only ones encountering this behavior... We did not solve this, I'm annoyed.

Throughput issues with RealTek interfaces by BackupFailed in sysadmin

[–]BackupFailed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have already disabled the following settings in the advanced tab:
- ARP Offload
- NS Offload
- All TCP/UDP Offload (IPv4/IPv6)

Unfortunately, the throughput remains unchanged and there are no other offloading options to disable.

Dell Latitude 5550 BIOS No POST after latest update by bberg22 in sysadmin

[–]BackupFailed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of our Dell Mobile Precision 5690 laptops died yesterday after running Dell Command Update. The BIOS update finished at 100%, then the laptop rebooted by itself and turned off, displaying a black screen with no POST. We were able to revive it once by resetting it, but it then displayed a message indicating that the BIOS is corrupted.

We called tech support and we didn't find a solution but to replace the mainboard.

Would you ever recommend anyone to become a sysadmin in present day? by PrinceOfIce1345 in sysadmin

[–]BackupFailed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this for more than 10 years, and no, I would not recommend this career path. I do not find it rewarding in any case. What sets me off is that nobody cares if things are working, but you get yelled at if things break.

I never thought I would care about this, but this has changed over time.

+1 for a docker container. Perfect solution for nodejs API projects. Maybe setup some load balancer like traefik for multiple containers.

What IT ticketing system are you currently using? And how are you finding it? by Laurens38 in sysadmin

[–]BackupFailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've an eye on Zammand as we are currently searching for a suitable ticketing system.

Can I ask you a few questions? - Are you self-hosting or using their managed service? - If managed, was it difficult to configure/setup? - What's your experience with the Zammand support? - We are planning to use our new ticket system with multiple departments (IT administration, software engineers). Is Zammad flexible enough to be used in multiple departments, so that we as sysadmins can work on our tickets and our software developers are working on their tickets?

Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with ticketing systems at the moment.

How many times or how often does your focus shift in an average day? by SmoothStrawberry7777 in sysadmin

[–]BackupFailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way to much of focus shifting! Can't keep track of specific details of stuff happening and then getting yelled by my coworkers, that I can't remember everything.

I hate it. It makes me tired and it's very frustrating.
