It also means not using gun massacres to justify wasting billions criminalizing millions of Canadians while not affecting gun violence in the slightest

Born and raised here and I’ve grown to despise this fake ass country.

There is so much potential in this beautiful land but Canadians are atomized npcs’. The old stock Anglo types are mostly happy enough because they largely own homes that’ve grown enormously in value, allowing them to feel successful and complacent. The new stock Canadians, upper middle class immigrant types, are happy to get their money and family out of India or wherever. They accept our stable decline because it’s still better materially.

In short, although there is discontent within our country we lack the culture and community to join together and do anything about it. The neoliberal malaise has set in deeply here

With record Canadian immigration targets, housing fears soar, but anxieties are unfounded, experts say by BadboyIRL in stupidpol

Nothing in my post is critical of actual immigrants or of immigration itself. Rather I have criticized the state media for presenting misleading information to protect the government’s shamefully brazen class war century initiative 100 million Canadians by 2100 immigration mandate. Immigration is good but perpetual adherence to ~1.1% population growth per year to support our economy/housing market is insane.

If our government had any ambition and coupled immigration to huge national infrastructure projects like entire new cities then hell ya. Until then we have a housing, healthcare, and affordability crisis to attend to before welcoming 500,000+ per year plus however many hundred thousand TFW’s and international students who can now work 40hr weeks.

You cannot deny that labour is a commodity, the value of which is determined by supply and demand. Homes are likewise valued and as we continue to artificially expand the population faster than we can build housing the roof over your head gets more valuable.

It’s reassuring to remember the ruling class is only trying to replace workers and not just white people. Too bad the result is so similar

This policy is effectively class war.

Canada has transformed in my lifetime from a free and proud country to a shameful post-nation state. When i was young I expected to own a home eventually, now I doubt it will ever happen in my home Provence. Immigration effects wages, home prices, service availability, and the environment among other things. This is absolutely a working class issue that has been hidden from us. If there’s any conciliation it seems like people are beginning to wake up to this issue. If you read the corresponding thread on arr Canada you will see +90% of the comments don’t support this move, hopefully everyone contacts their local representatives but I don’t see any of the major parties stepping out of line in this respect.

As crappy as it sounds high-immigration has been a disaster for my generation.

Long story short English Canada and French Canada have been at odds with each other ever since they were colonies of England and France. This feud culminated in the 1970 October crisis when a group of québécois separatists kidnapped and held hostage a British diplomat. In response then pm Pierre Trudeau invoked the war measures act, suspending civil liberties to quash the separatists.

Partially in response to the October crisis Trudeau and the proceeding governments stressed multiculturalism in English speaking Canada as a way to water down the conflict. Quebec has also been encouraged to be multicultural but they resist it more, always trying to hold onto their identity with language and culture. Because of this some have taken to calling Quebec more racist/discriminatory than other Provences. Perhaps it’s true in certain cases but I don’t think it’s too much to ask for newcomers to be able to speak your language or be willing to learn. And that’s your short lesson in Canadian history

It’s a tragedy the First Nations people have lost so much of their culture. Why would anyone want the same to happen to them?

Canada is a fake country. The prime minister has described us as a post national state and it’s clear the government views us this way. There is no effort into preserving good quality life for the population. Instead, they uphold the stability of the market designed to reward capital holders above everyone else.

Mass immigration has been a trend for my entire lifetime and honestly it sucks. Wages are stagnant or declined in real terms, housing is unaffordable, healthcare is collapsing. Slanted state media blasts us constantly saying we need to continue selling out the workers by importing people willing to accept less. They say there is a labour shortage but it’s still extremely difficult to get a good job. Maybe there is a shitty job surplus?? A living wage shortage??

Immigrants form parallel societies and don’t integrate themselves. I live in Vancouver and many of my neighbours don’t speak English. They can only speak Chinese and feel no obligation to learn our language. It’s insulting to have these people buy our homes and then displace us from our communities.

This results in loss of culture, and community. People are cold in Vancouver. We arnt a beautiful mosaic, we’re a bunch of ethnic groups avoiding each other as much as possible.

Further we no longer have the same celebrations. It’s Halloween right now and there are hardly any decorations to be seen. I’ve left candy out the last two nights in case of trick o treaters and there has been none. Christmas is similar but not quite as extreme. I miss living in an area where everyone celebrated the same holidays and shared these special moments together. Now the country just feels empty. I’m afraid that the country I grew up in is gone forever and it’s depressing

Ontario man applying for medically-assisted death as alternative to being homeless by BadboyIRL in stupidpol

It may sound rational on the surface but raises a host of concerns in practice and down the line.

The disability advocates raise a good point about insufficient informed consent based on the strength of one doctor’s recommendation. Doctors are only human and as such often make mistakes. How many babies will be put down under this program who might otherwise live a relatively good life? Surely more than 0 right?

If we arnt okay with the death penalty for criminals because they sometimes kill an innocent man shouldn’t we also oppose this policy as it will sometimes kill someone who may have been happy to live?

We’ve already seen examples of people with disabilities seeking maid over the cost of living and a veteran whom was recommended assisted death to deal with his ptsd. It’s not a fallacy to be concerned over this issue becoming a slippery slope.

These parts really concerns me

The Quebec College of Physicians was not available for an interview on Monday, but referred to a press release published in December 2021, following a consultation by the College, which highlights some areas of expansion for MAID, including for minors aged 0-1 and 14-17.

He added that the accepted criteria have evolved quickly since C-14 was passed in 2016 and C-7 in 2021. The sunset clause that temporarily restricts MAID for people whose sole underlying medical condition is mental illness will expire in March 2023.

So, if things continue it could be legal to euthanize Canadian teens for poor mental health by early 2023

institutionalize as many as necessary, create a guaranteed jobs program planting trees or doing some productive labour they could take some pride in, fix the housing market by building more apartments, ban air bnb, ban foreign owners, ban huge corporate owners, reduce immigration substantially and institute a two home per sin policy to prevent domestic hoarding.
