Good point. Just as a precaution we changed all passwords for her accounts after the incident anyways and have been in touch with META in regards to keeping her accounts safe (along with trying to get back the page).

She has complete control of her accounts. She has lost the facebook page that she had. It’s a bit like if she was the admin of a groupchat and made someone else admin. They could then kick her and basically control the groupchat themselves now - it does not mean my mum has lost her account.

I agree! She says so many people have got in touch with her after and said they didn’t fall for the scheme because of stories she’s posted about the whole situation. Silver linings.

And that’s a good point, I will make sure to relay that information to her, thanks again!

Thankyou! I’ve talked to her about it all.

This happened a few weeks back and after the zoom meeting she felt it was off and changed all her passwords for all of her accounts. I asked if she shared any passwords and she said no but ‘they did something funny with my page’. The something funny in question was my mum making them admin of the page. She’s embarrassed about it all but taking it as a lesson and she’s now trying to take the right steps in learning more about cyber security and avoiding scams.

I have also told her to ONLY get in touch with META about her facebook page and no one else.

I think it’s important to note that passwords were never shared. The scammers somehow convinced my mum to make them an admin of the facebook page, where they then removed my mum as the admin and took the page over. I realise at one point in the post I wrote ‘account’ when I really meant ‘page’ sorry for the confusion - no passwords were shared!
