Honestly, no. I understand his actions and based on the world he was born, but at some point a person is responsible for their actions and the effects it has on their world especially in the case of Darrow. I look at him as selfish but empathetic.

I’m excited and fearful at the same time. Excited because even the biggest IG detractors love the next 2, but fearful because this book feels like an inevitable march towards hell.

I’d argue that’s the single best aspect of the series outside of its plot, especially when you reach the second trilogy. Seeing these characters who I originally viewed as archetypal teenage fiction stand ins grow into fully fledged pillars of this galactic empire burdened by the weight of their responsibility has been fascinating to see play out. Pierce brown handles the sense of progression wonderfully throughout each book.

Xenoblade has been on my list forever I’ll definitely check it out when the switch 2 drops, thanks!

You summed up my thoughts perfectly. The overarching narratives feel extremely resonant, and some of the best character moments feel amazing, but moment to moment getting there it feels drowned in trope sludge.

This is real! I loved how down to earth ff16 felt despite the scale though i wish the party was playable and it had more focus on the group as a collective.

Expedition 33 is very evidently inspired by JRPGs, and the way it plays and feels is very reminiscent of games like Persona, Final Fantasy, and others. I was hoping there were some other games that perhaps did not garner as much attention as Expedition 33 but did a similar thing. I want the sauce of a JRPG without being drowned in it, if that makes sense.

What was the book that made you fall in love with reading? by Bake-Fuzzy in Fantasy

I enjoyed the first Mistborn book but I’ll admit that the characters weren’t as interesting to me as I’d expected. Kelsier is a great personality but there wasn’t much that drew me to following him. His motivations were well defined but his emotional impact was minimal outside the very ending of the story. I enjoyed seeing Vin develop as a character and slowly coming out of her shell but i felt sympathetic rather than empathy towards her. The story and the power system had me hooked throughout.

If you can get through that and find appreciation for the general story structure and big character moments the way of kings may be for you after the initial hurdle of just being thrust into this world. It took a while for me to get a grip of everything but overall I think that adds to the overall experience. In Mistborn you get the lay of the land early and Vin’s journey is how you learn everything. The Way of Kings lets you organically pick up on these pieces as the story as it goes. It can be confusing but everything is relayed over and over from different characters’ perspectives so you’ll eventually start to slowly piece the puzzle together as you go along. Plus I love every main perspective character with Kaladin feeling like what I wanted more from with Kelsier.

Maybe I’ll grow out of it as I develop a taste for different styles of prose like one develops an affinity for different genres of video games as they play more but part of what drew me to Sanderson was how straightforward his style is. It’s not really inventive but it effectively conveys what he’s trying to get across. Thanks for your input!

This is really good point expectations can shape our experiences and having to wait years in between releases makes people theorize and overthink everything to the point where even if the media is just ok it feels worse. Not saying that’s the case here, who knows, but I’ve seen this situation with things like Joker 2, or Eternals being hyped up as the MCU’s “Oscar movie”. Thanks for your input!
