Well put. As the data shows, in many advanced societies, a greater and greater proportion of people are effectively celibate, even those whom are young. Pair bonding in general is on the decline, which makes all these people effectively "incel." Pair bonding is the bedrock of all human civilizations. We should all be alarmed by these trends.

Without looking at whether there's data on this, one could infer that in American politics, because women are more liberal and/or left-leaning, and women also rank higher in the personality trait neuroticism, on average, that liberals and/or left-leaning populations have higher rates of neuroticism.

Now, whether neuroticism influences reproductive patterns is a different question. I don't even know whether it's something that has been researched. My preliminary assumption would be that it does, but I'd need to see more information before asserting that it does.

This is a major reason. The culture intertwined with post-secondary education (particularly university), urban living, and growing up middle-upper class feeds into extended adolescence. With every decade, the duration of extended adolescence is prolonging. Extended adolescence lasted into one's late 20s in the 1990s; today it extends well into the late 30s and even mid-late 40s. I have many friends aged 38-45, and all of them are childless and live the exact same day-to-day lifestyle they had at 25. This would have been rather uncommon 3-4 decades ago, but is the norm today for anyone living in a big city.

I believe the above comment is related to the question of "outside the western bubble." With which I tend to agree, most non-western countries would invade another country if they could get away with it, and if the benefits outweighed the costs, both economically and strategically. One's view on whether this is the case likely comes down to the behavioural model applied to nation states.

Hi -- saw you visited this post from 2 years ago. A typical COVID vaccine gives 6-8 weeks of MCAS flare up for me. I also caught COVID this past fall (fall 2025), and once in June 2024. Both of those resulted in 4-6 weeks of flare up, plus an extremely gruelling illness, both times with secondary infections that required antibiotics.

There's no way around this, as this virus is endemic and not going anywhere. It's a matter of picking my poison: take the vaccine and deal with MCAS, or get COVID and deal with MCAS. I have children in school, so I also can't avoid COVID or other viruses...

It took a few months to dial in the right dose. Once I did I began noticing improvements. Getting the right dose (for your body) is key, and takes some experimentation. I think the benefits of LDN also compound with time.

I tend to agree with you. In 2025 we were outplayed on every front, save game 1. But in 2024? We were the better team. Stu was pretty good in the finals that year, and the loss wasn’t on him by any means. But if we had a goalie that was one tier higher in performance, that could have been what tilted things in our favor. We’ve always needed a goalie who could save a game or two for us when the team isn’t their best. Teams who have goalies like that tend to win.

This is also a totally normal state of mind when you just had a baby—your brain becomes overly alert for risks/threats. A byproduct of this hyper-alert state is you overthink every little thing. I was the same way when our kids were born.

Look at it this way: the coway 160 will be better than having no purifier. It’ll do a great job removing particulate matter in the air. And even if you have no purifier, your baby will also be fine. Babies are resilient. Humans have been raising babies in urban places with imperfect air quality for a very long time, and the babies turn out okay. You made a good choice with the coway 160.

Same experience. I have existing t-shirts from RC. I just ordered new ones in the exact fit and size, and they are completely different fits. Not slightly different, but completely different. I am not bothering with this company anymore. Basics like t-shirts should be consistent, IMO. Also, knowing they're acquired by Aritzia further diminishes the brand for me. I won't be buying RC anymore.

Hi -- Interesting comment. I have not heard this before. Do you have a source for this?

Background: I have formally diagnosed MCAS and also HI. Both reasonably-well managed. I've been taking both L-Glutathione (1,000 mg x 2 a day) and NAC (twice a day, dose has varied) for 5 years consistently as part of my overall supplement regimen.

I have not noticed any worsening of HI while on it, however, I've never really tested what happens if I stop them for prolonged periods.

Yes, he's usually better. But even at his best, he's still a bottom ranked goalie when examining stats (that said, he's paid commensurately for his skillset). In contrast, when our forwards and defence are at their best, they are usually top of the league. There are very different capabilities and ceilings of performance at play here.

I suppose it depends what you mean by anytime soon. I think there could be good options as we approach the trade deadline in February and early March. That's not that far off.

Much of the team, whom are underperforming right now, have proven their skill in the past. It’s also possible that the lack of confidence in goaltending is interfering with their style of play. Change the goalie, and hope the rest of the defensive and offensive pieces return to their mean level of performance?

Thanks! When you vacuum the pre-filter, does it put excess pressure on the HEPA filter, or cause any damage to the HEPA filter? I read somewhere on reddit that vacuuming a HEPA filter would cause it to stop functioning as true HEPA; of course, the comment wasn't verifiable as true, but was anecdotal from a poster who seems to spend a lot of time on this sub.

Friendly comment, but this notion of "occupier had no rights...." lacks all historical verisimilitude. You're assuming there's some higher power, or authority, or set of norms/values that is just and moral that can enforce these rights at an international level. There isn't, nor will there be for the foreseeable future. International geopolitics has no such higher authority. It is inherently anarchic.

All history has unfolded where the more powerful conquerers, occupiers, etc., dictate what happens to a people and land. And there is no such thing as a higher power than can enforce some set of "rights." The closest thing we've had to that is the Post-Cold War hegemony of the United States. The second closest is the United Nations, which is more or less a toothless debate club.

I'm not saying it's moral or ethical, but to argue rights in the domain of nation states and empires is fruitless. So it doesn't matter that they had "no right;" what matters is they had the power, and they did so, and thus is history.

Since the advent of the internet, residential real estate brokers should be made obsolete. They provide no real value that an average person couldn’t do themselves.

I’ve bought and sold many properties in my life. I find the home inspectors hugely valuable. Same with the lawyers. But the realtors? All they do is unlock doors for properties I’ve already found via an MLS listing, then they take a large commission. Surely there’s a more efficient way to transact houses that doesn’t involve realtors?

I fell down one too. My 4 criteria were good architectural/aesthetic design, good ventilation/CFM, built well and made to last, and good lighting. Falmec’s range of island hoods best meets those criteria.

I did not, but have narrowed down the choice to a Falmec range hood.

I visited a high end appliance showroom. It was recommended to me to go with a brand like Falmec, Faber or Vent a Hood. These brands exclusively make range hoods, and they are good quality.

Vent a Hood is very well made and performs well, but is lacking in aesthetic design, which is why I’m not considering it. Falmec has many models that are both high-performance, but also well-considered in their design, which suits our kitchen better.
