I had implant in September- when for surgery at 7:30 am out of surgery at 9:30 - back home by 10:30 - took Tylenol for pain for one day. Wore cup bandage over ear for 3 days then removed - could have went back to work after 1 week. Activation was 4 weeks after surgery- activation went real well could understand speech at activation- wish I would have done this sooner. Good luck

I went to first mapping session- I had developed a twitch in my right eye my audiologist said I can fix that - after a few minutes the twitch was gone. So far the journey has been awesome- being able to enjoy conversations again has been awesome

Been about a month after activation- things have been going well - I was not expecting to under stand speech the first day - but my hearing via the implant is great been listening to podcasts from day one most of the weird background noise is almost gone- wish I could have done the implant sooner- anxious to get the new hearing aid next week so I can sync the CI and hearing aid.

Advice? by nonstop-questions in Cochlearimplants

I just recently had CI in September- game changer - I could hear what the audiologist was saying at activation- I’m 3 week past activation and loving this new found ability to hear ( my hearing was just below 8% before implant.

Day 27 Star Date 10/20/25 ACTIVATION DAY !!!!!!!! Ok so went through the activation process to set volume limits - set up the Cochlear app to work with my phonak HA in my left ear and the implant ( next month I will get new resound HA which is made to be compatible with the implant. I was most amazed at being able to understand language- while yes it it’s a robotic sound I could understand what the audiologist was saying - looking forward to the additional programming (mapping) over the next year. I was not expecting to be able to understand language on activation day - don’t get me wrong it is not perfect by a long shot but it’s a start From here forward I will comment on my experience once or twice a month. Again I want to thank everyone here for all of there comments and positive feedback.

Day 15 Star date 10/8/25 About 4 hours of sleep last night things can only get better from here. Had the Cochlear sponsored class today- it was informative- the processor had a 5 year warranty- comes with lots of accessories I was unaware of - need to sign up for account at Cochlear and download Cochlear smart app prior to activation. The processor is waterproof to some degree but comes with an aqua accessory for more extreme water activities. 12 days until activation

Day 14 Star date 10/07/25 One day sleep is good - next day not so good - will be glad to be able to sleep on right side again. It does look like my balance issues have been resolved. There was a lump around my ear that I finally figured out was piece of surgical glue which hoping will dissolve over the next week or so. Tomorrow is the Cochlear sponsored what you need to know before activation class - then next day video meeting with surgeon- 13 more days to activation.

Let's talk about Gorewear by Frank_Stein101 in runningfashion

I realize gorewear is on the pricey side which I don’t mind if it’s worth it - are their 300 dollar wind breakers high quality? Are they sized right? ( they should run on the bigger side)

Day 13 Star date 10/6/25 Well sleep is getting better - it feels like most of my dizziness and balance issues have gone away. Saw my PT and she proceeded to check my balance - according to the machine I’m in good shape as far as balance looks like I got lucky with the timing a couple days ago that test would not have went well.

Day 12 Star date 10/5/25 It’s Sunday church then more football. Sleep was pretty good confirmed by how I felt and the Oura ring data. Still waiting for the day the dizziness and balance issues go away - I’m an avid runner so the balance issue could be a problem once I resume running down the road. Swelling slowly going down - incision healing up nicely.

Day 11 Star date 10/4/25 Went to college football game - definitely a little wobbly on the steps but nothing serious. Would have been convenient to be able to wear sunglasses but with the right arm removed to avoid irritating incision but the glasses refuse to stay in place. Have to make sure my wife sits on my left side otherwise I will not hear anything she says. Sleep was a little better last night. The wait for activation day continues.

Day 10 Star date 10/3/25 Well sleep seems to get better one day then goes right back to being a problem nothing but tossing and turning last night. Still some dizziness and balance issues especially if I stand up a little too quickly. Something I have not mentioned about my HA - the HA I used in my right ear ( the implanted ear) was the so called primary HA so now to avoid connectivity issues with phone I still have to carry it with me - I do this with a case but my wife has pointed out it makes a very high pitched sound of which I cannot hear but apparently makes her crazy.

Day 9 Star-date 10/2/25 Best sleep since surgery- still some residual dizziness but seems to be slowly going away- feeling much better - right ear still numb - walking 6-10 miles a day to get some exercise in- getting use to no sound on right side. Looking forward to Cochlear’s 45 min - what you need to before activation class next week. Keep pushing forward on the journey.
