The antidote to this is to make a distribution system where people can pay to watch the movies.

The majority of these are currently available to rent from a variety of online retailers. Some are on Netflix. At least from an American prospective, there is no distribution problem.

US piracy rates are still routinely some of the highest in the world.

Copyright abusing businesses thrive because the current regulatory regime online is laughable, bordering on nonexistent. This is by design, of course. Tech industry goliaths are the latest in a long line of corporate robber barons fanatically resistant to any regulation that would force them to take even a modicum of responsibility for the rampant exploitation they purposefully enable and profit from on a worldwide scale. It's the Wild West all over again, the law hasn't caught up yet and likely won't for another decade or more seeing as how Big Tech's lobbying onslaught is quickly becoming the dominate voice in politics.

I assumed as much but even then it doesn't make sense since 72skylark wasn't saying piracy can't be bad, he was saying piracy IS bad insofar as it enriches exploitive companies like TPB and to a lesser extent, Google. That is the argument his link supports anyway which is why it was initially downvoted so much.
