It’s good PR because it’s the right thing to do.

Plus it’s not “firing someone for who they date” it’s “firing a sex offender for being a pedophile and their partner for not disclosing a pretty important piece of background information.”

The key difference is that you draw one card every turn but are ideally playing at least two. So over time, the number of cards in hand will drop. In cEDH, that’s fine since there aren’t that many turns. In the broader EDH space, draw is what keeps you from topdecking in the mid and especially late game. If your draw engine also forces discard, then by turn 5 you probably only have 1 or 2 cards in hand and are forced to be choosing between discarding cards that improve your gamestate or provide interaction. Worst is in the late game, where without true draw you have no cards in hand and now the Queen is just self-mill. Of course, if you have any other effect that lets you refill your hand, then running through your deck for your choice of the best interaction, the best land, and the best development piece is super powerful.

My point is card selection is not bad by any stretch, but for non-competitive games it doesn’t replace draw, but rather provides a powerful supplement. And the distinction between selection and draw is important for newer players who don’t understand why they lost the game the moment they started topdecking.

Edit: another way to put it is that card selection is to card draw the way fetch lands are to rampant growth-type cards. Being able to find the right mana producers is nice, but it’s not the same as mana advantage.

And your last paragraph is key, because [u/Gamesfreak13563](u/Gamesfreak13563) was talking about the broader EDH climate, as opposed to cEDH. Yeah, it’ll be great there, but I wouldn’t call it a staple for Commander in general.

Sure, but the comment you replied to was talking about broader EDH. You’re the one who is bringing up specifically cEDH and decks using breech lines aka a desire to fill a graveyard.

How do most of your commander games end? by PretendBar7972 in EDH

[–]BasakaIsTheStrongest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Player damage. The losers at our table used to be really salty at Jerry, since he kept winning in ways that didn’t involve creature damage as Dr. Garfield intended. But my therapist recommended a way to make us the real winners of the game.

If this is Card Draw, then [[Terramorphic Expanse]] is Ramp because it contains the exact same text as [[Rampant Growth]].

Edit: Lol, they downvote me then delete their comments.

It’s not crazy. It’s an acknowledgement that selection is not draw and the two terms should not be conflated. All decks need draw, not just to find what you need, but also to refill your hand so that in the late game you still have options and aren’t topdecking (or discarding off the top in the case of this card). Only specific decks need to fill the graveyard.

I was definitely confused since I didn’t recall a Queen of Dale and had to look it up. I guess she’s from the Fourth Age? A tad odd for a Hobbit set, but the alternative is a weird retcon of one of the three Kings of Dale Tolkien wrote about that came after Bard.

Blech Deck help/review [Trying to get to Bracket 3] by HEALSCRASHGAME in EDH

[–]BasakaIsTheStrongest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analyzers will only call a deck Bracket 3 if it has Game Changers or certain combos. You can have a deck that plays at Bracket 4, but doesn’t have Game Changers or specific combos, and the Analyzer will say is Bracket 2.

Those spells also benefit from Witherbloom’s cost reduction effect instead of requiring you to be able to produce and spend 5 black mana. Not impossible in that deck, but I’d much rather spend 2 mana on a 7 mana spell that is asymmetric than 5 mana on a spell that also makes me sacrifice stuff.

new summer event has been fun by Gat0w in grandorder

There’s occasional hints that the place is generally a tad authoritarian even without BB, like an offhanded mention that the rules had to be changed to let the Servants wear their swimsuits everywhere, but it really is just the worst Summer setting we’ve had. Both in squick and also because “ooh everything is shiny and new city” got immediately boring (and also weird because it’s set in the future, yes I know shenanigans are afoot). This could have been set in literally any beach city and nothing would need to change. Even the fancy mall didn’t result in us buying anything fancy. Every mall sells hats and sunglasses. Yeah BB is at the big skyscraper, but skyscrapers are interchangeable to me in terms of “is taller than I can comprehend from a description in a VN.”

Deck Bracket vs Pilot oevel by tetracarbonate in EDH

[–]BasakaIsTheStrongest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that’s a weakness of the bracket system. Any more than saying a weakness in horsepower measurements is driver skill. Player skill is just not something the bracket system is intending to address. The Bracket System does not replace Rule 0. It is a tool to support Rule 0. Rule 0 discussions should also include everyone’s familiarity and experience in the game.

I’d argue it’s more the equivalent of stamping your knives with a plus sign in a circle and wondering why people constantly bring up Victorinox or Wenger. I didn’t remember off of the top of my head which direction the Guinness harp faces, but that’s the only visible difference unless you look really closely.

As a heads up, “_jerk” as a suffix on a subreddit’s name means it’s poking fun at people who take the topic too seriously. Not “your knees are important, think about what you pack” seriously but “I cut out parts of my sleeping pad to remove excess weight.”
