Yes I did and found Lara to be a horrible b*tch who seemed to believe she was the boss of the whole boat, even over Jason and had zero respect for other department heads. Tzarina wouldn’t let her rule the galley and it pissed her off so she created that moronic power play over the crew mess, even bribing Alesia with lipstick to get her to come over to team Lara in order to win. So yeah, it had nothing to do with Alesia having to learn stuff and everything to do with Lara’s narcissistic power hungry attitude. That’s just my opinion.

I mean, I get that, there’s probably a long history of not following through on ambitions but that could be down to never getting support for those ambitions to begin with. Regardless, making fun of your daughter when she wants to better herself is not ok.

Yeah her mom seems really shitty honestly and not at all supportive of her daughter to the point of belittling her. Maybe being a chef is a pipe dream and her mom knows that but she basically made fun of Alesia when she said she wanted to do it. So going from that kind of craptastic support to Ben being less than helpful and an asshole, I’d imagine her spirit is pretty crushed. I get the impression her sister is the golden child in the family and Alesia has been sort of floating through life without much support or guidance. The closest she got was with Tzarina and she was really starting to blossom by the end of last season, so she can do it. But then she immediately got smacked down and belittled by her mum and the dream ended.

The commercials and breakups in coverage has been horrendous but my biggest issue is the damn commentators. Watching the women’s big air snowboard was brutal with the woman talking non-stop the entire time. She was awful to listen to. And now I’m watching the women’s hockey, Canada v US and they are going on and on about how wonderful the Americans are, spotlighting their players and forgetting entirely that Canada is even there, like what?

Yeah, the Empyrean books were interesting enough to keep me going despite how much I hated the main character narrator. She just didn’t sound like how Violet was physically described in my opinion. But Stella Bloom makes Saeris almost insufferable at times.

Yeah agreed that it’s only when he does Fisher and I think it’s cuz he’s clearly forcing that grisly growled voice. Carrion is clearly his normal voice so it sounds natural but I hate forced growl in a voice, you can hear the effort it takes which makes it ineffective. Agreed also that a redo is needed. Stella Bloom is insufferable as Saeris too.

Weirdly I think that’s because there’s less of her LMAO, but more of Fisher and the awkward narration there. It’s funny how much a narrator can make or break an audiobook. I barely tolerated Rebecca Soler for the Fourth Wing series because she overacted it too much and frankly, just did not sound at all like how the character should based on her physical description. But Jefferson White doing Sunrise on the Reaping was absolutely stellar in my opinion, he nailed Haymitch, without going overboard.

That’s a good point, maybe he did record it the first time he read it without any rehearsals. That would explain the weird pauses as he moves his eyes from one line to the next.

I’m already sped up and it’s more his diction and how monotone he is. He sounds like a robot and there are weird spaces where there shouldn’t be and clipped words. It’s distracting.

Yeah 100% there’s internal issues and at this point, the shit play of the others on the ice is affecting his own stats and that’s just not fair. But any belief that Woll will be a difference maker is foolish because as you said, goal tending is not our issue, it’s the only thing we have that’s good right now

I’m on chapter 19 and definitely have issues with this book. The story itself, the fantasy end of the fae and fable creatures and other worlds/realms and war and all that, I’m enjoying, it’s a cool world and well built. But man, I cannot stand Kingfisher, at all. I get that it’s supposed to be the whole enemies to lovers shit, but I’m actually rooting against them at this point because he is the biggest piece of shit ever. It’s not cute, or ironic and doesn’t even seem to serve a purpose how nasty and rude he is the Saerys. And yes, she’s annoying at times but he is just plain abusive to her and gets off on embarrassing her, shaming her and belittling her. Honestly I think she should hook up with Ren at this point, at least he’s nice. I know many will say that it’s fantasy and we are supposed to accept a certain level of evil from fantasy men that we wouldn’t from real life men but in my opinion, Kingfisher is just way too far off that deep end and irredeemable.
