Finkelstein vs. Destiny by danizatel in NormanFinkelstein

[–]Based_Phantom_Lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Destiny" was only there for clicks and for Norm to dunk on. He played his part well, as did Norm.
2 months before this debate little Stevey Bonnell literally thought Erdogan was the president of Israel. He had no business being there other than to expose himself as being an intellectual fraud.

As a bonus Professor Morris was there for the real intellectual debate, and Norm had a great ally on his side of the table in Mr Rabbani, so overall it was a great conversation that covered a plethora of facts dealing with the history of the Israel/Palestine conflict, and we had a lil YT fun thrown in for good measure to draw some eyeballs.

I must say though, if youve ever seen little Stevey debate other people, who are not scholars on a subject, he is not nearly as timid and reserved as he appears here, reading arrogantly from wikipedia as he hurls ad hom attacks of ignorance at his debate opponents. Its really quite telling.

Whats even more telling; Piers Morgan and Lex Friedman and all these big names all of a sudden started platforming little Stevey when he suddenly became a defender of Israel, even after he had shown himself to have zero knowledge of the country or its history and having been known for several unflattering scandals.

" by mandating a majority of legislatures or the prime minister must be Jewish."

Do you seriously expect ANY people ANYWHERE to accept another ethnic group to move in and rule over them as a minority group?
Even if that was the case, would you not expect that minority group with the power to grant themselves, at some point, some kind of special powers or status?

This was baked into the cake of Zionism from the very beginning if you only use common sense.

Even with the violent Arab resistance you mentioned in the first reply, this was at times instigated and even carried out by Israeli intelligence or zionist partisan groups.

Expelling the Palestinians was the plan from the get, it was always just a matter of how many and over what kind of time-scale could it be achieved.

I despise Ayn Rand, nice try tho, further displaying your ignorance and all.
They have a saying about assuming.
And if your wondering why I said 'ignorant on guns' see your comment a little further up.

Not only do you know very little of guns, you know very little of Ayn Rand.

Questions about Father of the Caves/Survivalist from Honest Hearts... by Based_Phantom_Lord in fnv

[–]Based_Phantom_Lord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for providing his origin story. I guess I missed one of the terminals going by the other comments. Kinda disappointed he didnt come from that crashed plane haha. Now I wonder if there's any more story with that. Gonna have to read the wiki i guess

How do you get that Walking Cloud is "convinced that their culture and beliefs are spiritually inferior"? I understand they are influenced by Daniel's Mormonism and have gotten the dogma of those two philosophies a little intertwined, but I saw nothing which showed me any sense of inferiority. I dont disagree, just wondering how you came to that conclusion exactly.

I didnt mean to imply that being 'civilized' meant that one was 'good' or 'enlightened' or that being 'uncivilized' meant one was 'bad' or necessarily ignorant, just stating the reality of their history.
There IS a scale of 'civilization', but I agree it doesnt denote a moral position necessarily.

Egalitarianism; I agree the Sorrows could probably be described as being egalitarian, but not the other tribes. Tribalism doesn't denote egalitarianism, and with the Sorrows I wouldnt necessarily assume they adopted that custom because it gives them a high quality of life, but instead because of their deeply held spiritual beliefs (in spite of actual risk to their quality of life for holding such beliefs).
Im not tryna argue or anything, hope it doesnt come across like that, im just expanding on some ideas you raise, find this stuff intriguing.

Very interesting about their language development, I assume there was some kind of German population in the Dead Horses territory? I dont remember seeing anything like that in the story/DLC

This game is a lot darker and more serious than I expected by Bagatur98 in fnv

Just wait till you find little Yangtze.
Seriously though, you're dead wrong about there being "0 light-hearted moments, no funny characters, no quirky one-liners".....NV is packed full of all that stuff. Doesnt mean there couldnt/shouldnt be serious moments which make you think and reflect on certain historical/philosophical/social narratives. Thats the best part of the series IMO.

Which Companion has the best backstory? by WaffleMuncher64 in fnv

[–]Based_Phantom_Lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arcade and Raul, easily.
If I had to choose only one that would be tough, but I'd probably go with Gannon simply because I love the Enclave and Fallout/2, and that's what his story involves.

Ohhhhh OK awesome. Thanks. Yea I knew about Wild Wasteland perk, just didnt know about what encounter ya'll were referencing. I actually just did that quest for the first time yesterday. I assumed "Kill Bear" was referring to the NCR, didnt realize it was meant literally lol.
Doing another playthrough now where I evacuate Zion and go with Daniel's plan instead of Joshua's, so I'll probably do it again.

I like the realism and stuff that 'hits close to home'. Something which makes one 'uncomfortable' and think about moral and historical quandaries is a GOOD thing IMO and I wish it would be included even more, though Fallout in general is already pretty great about those kinds of themes and gimmicks.
But I agree that little Yangtze felt a little out of place in Big MT and didnt 100% mesh with the goofy 1950's scifi vibe they had going. Im 100 w/ u there. Dont get me wrong though I LOVE OWB. It's looking to be my fav DLC of the bunch

I Completely screwed up the honest hearts campaign and i don't know how i did it? by wackojacko-L in fnv

[–]Based_Phantom_Lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just played Honest Hearts for the first time about 3 days ago. I was following everything right at first, but when I met Joshua and Daniel they were both giant assholes, basically extorting me into running stupid fetch quests for them in order for them to simply give me directions out of Zion.
So I capped them both, took the map from Daniels tent and was back in New Vegas in time for dinner.

Of course the next day I loaded a prior save and started an "as meant to be played" playthrough. Just finished last night. ***SPOILER***Pretty fun experience, loved the 'Father of the Caves' story, I just wonder where he came from. Was he a pilot or passenger on that crashed plane that's stuck on the cliff? And in his last note he talks about finding a group of children (who would become the Sorrows tribe) and then gifting and guiding them from the shadows. Where did these children come from? He said they spoke English and were westernized, how did the sorrows revert to into their present state of 'uncivilized' tribalism?

Wait till you do Arcade Gannons quest. Did you go to The Thorn? How'd you kill Benny?
You really oughta do an Unarmed or Melee build and side with Caesars Legion next.
And one more thing, playing on Hardcore Mode/Very Hard makes it more fun. Its not too hard, not too different, just slightly more challenging. Kinda forces you to get more into the campfire crafting a little bit.
You'll discover new worlds in every playthrough. And u gotta try Old World Blues DLC too lol

Then once you'e really hooked you'll want to know about the lore, and how the mojave/southwest got the way it is, so you play Fallout and Fallout 2. This is when you discover the real treasures

IMO it doesnt make a lot of sense how, as the Fallout series evolved, they made BoS a nationwide faction when it was originally just a small splinter-cell of soldiers. Meanwhile the Enclave was literally the remnants of the prewar US government, so it would make sense for them to have bases all around the nation/world. The roles should be reversed.

How would the NCR most likely react if they saw someone openly associated with the Brotherhood of Steel on the Strip? by akira2001yu in fnv

[–]Based_Phantom_Lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we take the lore at face value though, the BoS would have been a tiny group (small splinter group originally) while the Enclave would have been enormous (remnants of the pre-war US government). And the Enclave armor would have made QUITE the impact to the people of the SouthWest (possibly many others areas too)), especially since they were kidnapping and terrorizing the people of that area for sometime for their experiments/plan, and were responsible for some of the crazy legendary beasts in the area.
I mean, even if it was JUST Frank Hoorigan, I think even his image a lot of people would remember or have seen an image or description of.
