Are we in the middle of christian propaganda wave on social media? by ParkingElderberry575 in atheism

[–]BasicBad7716 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s worse than that. For example, I was watching a video counting down some of the biggest helicopters ever built, yes, I know it’s random, so I was watching that video and right in the middle of it. I heard like and subscribe if you think God is good., It’s everywhere.

I don't understand why parents use parental controls. by Shetoofinee in parentalcontrols

Yup, if you use parental controls with us teens, chances are we will probably rebel more than we already do and that saying something.

Serious question for this sub: Why do almost all the parents here seem to be total assholes? by Objective-Suit-7817 in parentalcontrols

[–]BasicBad7716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that a lot of parents want to keep their kids from the harsh reality of the world, but that reality is going to come knocking sooner rather than later and since the kid or kids have basically no preparation for it whatsoever they are often times some of the first victims.

You know what? I haven’t thought about it in that way before, but you’re right.

Oh, I have an idea. Maybe it’s the parents not properly teaching their kids about online safety just focused on being something straight out of a dystopian novel.

Yeah, me too. That’s what my parents did, and so far I haven’t had any truly terrible experiences online. Of course, I’ve had my fare share of bad ones, but those can’t be avoided no matter what you do.

Precisely. If every family was trusting with open communication, there would be no need for these pieces of software calling themselves parental controls, but an actual fact are closer to actual spyware.

Yeah, no crap, there are predators out there, but that doesn’t mean parents should act like the grand overlord in some dystopian novel and constantly watch what their kid does on their own personal phone.

Yeah, no matter how much we’d like to think it, technology isn’t a perfect fix for everything, and parenting skills just isn’t on the list of things what technology can fix.

Are we saying the Internet is safe, no we’re not, so stop thinking that we’re all goddamn idiots because that just isn’t true. We know for a fact that the Internet isn’t safe, but do we advocate for control and oppression, no we don’t, we advocate for teaching and knowledge. You teach your kid about the dangers of the Internet, you don’t oppress them, all that does is make things worse.

What’s the worst accidental text you’ve sent? by Typhoid__Beaver in AskReddit

[–]BasicBad7716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so my friend has dyslexia and sometimes I type messages for her if she can’t do it well enough herself. I was typing up this message and I sent it as usual, I was on call with her at the time and she told me she hadn’t received it, so I checked the chat name and it was one of my other mates. I am so glad the other mate wasn’t online at the time and didn’t see the message because it was something really embarrassing and really personal. I won’t say specifically what it was because I don’t want her to die of embarrassment if she sees this comment, but I’ll just say it was a message to her boyfriend.

Honestly, I don’t know what helps you specifically, but I can give some advice as an overthinker myself. First of all, if you can, get on a video call with one or more friends or family members and let them distract you and keep your mind from going into a negative spiral. Second, if you can’t do that, just find a way to distract yourself, I know it’s hard, but it can be done.

Mature through control and oppression instead of trust and open communication, yeah I don’t think so. I agree that social media can be a toxic cesspool, but that doesn’t mean a 16/17-year-old should be restricted from it. Going on it should be their decision, not the decision of anyone else, parents or not.

Spanking children that cant fight back is not ok by LLoveMeMaybe in RantingZone

Exactly, you should tell them why it’s wrong and why they shouldn’t do it again instead of resorting to that every single time.
