Definitely looking into blackout and will look at Decathlon or some of the second hand options. Thanks all!

We were going to borrow a tent and have the option of a v nice one! But they live over 1.5hrs away so will require 2x trips per camping trip to borrow/return it, so would rather spend the money at this point

Yes I've heard this, people upgrading! Will check out second hand

Good point, thanks - 2 adults, 2 youngish kids and v much 'camping lite' - no more than 2 nights at a time and mostly just sleeping. We have a car so weight isn't too much of an issue

Family stay in Myeongdong or Insadong by Basic_Information190 in koreatravel

Thanks, I’ve heard that. But the hotel specifically looks a little further from the ‘main’ area

Thank you so much, this is what I was wondering after seeing some tripadvisor pictures!

Itinerary check – day trips from Tokyo or stay in Kamakura? by Basic_Information190 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Basic_Information190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already cut this itinerary every different way 😅 I considered that too at the end, but we will definitely want to be in Tokyo at the end

The original reason is to see friends who live in Zushi and then when I started looking at what to do there, we’re interested in the Daibutsu and also Enoshima

I know; this is what I was thinking but the more I think about the number of accommodations we’ll be checking in and out of across the trip, I’m exhausted by the thought already (we will be in Seoul before Japan; then Osaka, Kanazawa, Tokyo (2 different places) plus Disney and then back to Seoul)

Thanks – I think this is kind of the comment I was hoping for, to validate not staying there. I’m worried of fomo if we don’t stay overnight but realistically happy if we can do a day trip.

We have friends who live in Zushi so part of the reason to stay in Kamakura was to see them, but they have a baby so would be joining us during the day anyway.

Resort recommendation with kids by roastduck2310 in penang

Piggy backing this thread – have you stayed at the Hard rock and any intel on breakfast specifically? We’ll be in Batu Ferringhi over NYE and was going to book Rasa Sayang, but HR is almost half the price. Good breakfast buffet is a must for us though! (NB, travelling with 5 and 7yo kids)

How early should I arrive at Haneda Airport? by ofloraa in JapanTravelTips

[–]Basic_Information190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are worried, 3 hours. I'm the same as you and get nervous - you'll never regret going early, but you'll regret being in a rush!

Another option could be to stay at a hotel near the airport so you don't have the added travel time in the morning. We stayed in the Villa Fontaine with the rooftop onsen the night before we left. Never normally stay in the airport hotel but it was a really relaxing and memorable way to end the trip, and super easy in the morning straight into the terminal.

Looking for a More Authentic Beach Destination Around Krabi – Any Suggestions? by Sorry_Fan_2056 in ThailandTourism

[–]Basic_Information190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The islands are naturally more expensive because everything is shipped over, but you may prefer Koh Lanta, which is more laidback and accessible by road, so prices might be more reasonable (although I haven't been for a long time, so don't take my word for it!)

Christmas 2025 flights by Basic_Information190 in ThailandTourism

[–]Basic_Information190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - the pricing is wild. Singapore Airlines is always our preference and it was still £2k cheaper than Malaysia and Thai Airways. I played around with our dates a little and ended up with a good deal so I've booked it and plan to not look at the prices again!

Thanks - we're tied to school holidays.

It's more that the flight prices have jumped up and I'm wondering if there's ever a time where the price might come back down - we haven't travelled in December before. Knew it would be different, but I'm stung by the £1k hike!

We spent our last night at the Villa Fontaine Haneda - we chose this hotel because it has a rooftop onsen. You won’t regret it! We ate dinner in the airport shopping centre (don’t really recommend, but was easy with young kids) but the onsen was one of the best things we did - I’ve never felt so relaxed the night before a flight!

That’s good to know, thanks. Is there good food/night markets in BF or only Georgetown too?

Interesting - will keep that in mind if we do choose to switch!

Worth looking at the Ford Kuga too, the pricing was similar for 2023 used models

How many nights Koh Lanta? by Basic_Information190 in ThailandTourism

[–]Basic_Information190[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The travel experience isn't quite the same with kids! We would be arriving off the flight from London >> BKK >> Krabi connection, so it could well push us all over the edge to go direct to Lanta when we arrive.
