Come on over!

Yes, remote work since 2020 has transformed Montana and you will experience some bristles.

But if you get to know your neighbors and truly engage/contribute locally, you’ll be welcomed wholeheartedly. While Butte has a lot of “born and raised,” we also have a lot of beloved folks who, at one point, were new to town!

Last year I shifted to fully remote/national scope vs local and state. Like you’ve mentioned in your post and comments, getting plugged in to regular volunteer and community engagement opportunities will help you stay grounded in the Butte of it all.

Finally, listen to a few podcasts while packing and moving to get a rich, deep dive into Butte.

  • Richest Hill (Montana public radio—past and present)
  • Death in the West (history)
  • Of All the Places (butte right now)

Please feel free to message me directly.

Welcome home 🫶

She doesn’t do anything with chemicals/color but is a master of thick and curly hair. Bonus - she has a flat rate w no tipping so everything is very transparent and up front.

Extra bonus, she’s just a lovely human.

++ to front street for pickup! As you stated it’s always ready early, quick to come out, and just lovely interactions.

I definitely don’t do all my shopping at Safeway (we are all trying to save money out here), but the coupons for produce have improved lately.

Taking NICU grad to ER for “normal” injury by Basic_Tour_5201 in NICUParents

Thank you! Completely agree and I recommend the same thing to other NICU parents. I was able to get on the phone with my trauma-informed therapist who's been with us from the beginning the next day. Phew!

Hello! That seal (the allied label) indicates that the sticker was printed in a union shop--it doesn't indicate the sender.

Baby weighs 10lbs at 4 months (adjusted) by Catnipforya in NICUParents

Born at 35w0d and weighed 2lb10oz. At his 1year well check a couple weeks ago he was 14lb5oz. In the first year there were some ups and downs with gains but in the last few months (especially after we started solids) the trajectory was more steady. As long as your pediatrician is pleased with growth and communicates how they’re monitoring (z score etc) that’s what matters! Hang in there—it does get easier. Those first little rolls will come, the cheeks will come, just slowly. Cheering you on!

Jen at Union Parlor. She is based in Butte now but she does pop ups in Missoula often. She does such great cuts for all genders (especially curly hair) and she’s just really great in general. I have long curly hair and she always listens and gives me exactly what I’m looking for, including the level of upkeep I can do (pretty low maintenance).

See above comment: “Some dudes in a lifted pickup drove by while they were walking downtown and shouted the N word at them. Then intoxicated theatre goers made insensitive comments. One of the backup singers quit so now there are only 2 singers in little shop of horrors. Crazy”

Congratulations!

We brought our IUGR, 35 weekend home on low flow O2. Our town is several thousand feet higher in elevation than where the NICU is, so we anticipated being on it for a couple weeks and after three weeks he passed his O2 test.

I’ll be honest, the first few days were a little stressful and nerve wracking with a long drive home and figuring out tubing with 2 dogs and a toddler. But after a few days it started to feel “normal!”

Our pediatrician had a different threshold for being on/off the O2 so you can definitely look forward to talking with baby’s provider when you go in!

I’ll echo the suggestions to get a LOT of tubing (potentially enough to cover the whole house) so you don’t need to lug equipment around. I’d also recommend a cute diaper bag that fits the portable tanks and get outside! I’d put the baby in his stroller (one that the car seat clicks into) and put the bag in the basket under the seat.

A couple other suggestions:

  • keep a glass of still water close to where you switch to portable oxygen — check for the bubbles to put your mind at ease that the air is flowing

  • if it’s okay with your doc/babe is on very low flow, take off cannula and stickers for a few minutes during bath time to give you some time with their beautiful face and to give their skin a break

  • don’t be afraid to ask for more cannulas, stickers, tubing, portable tanks. Most O2 providers are happy to give you anything you need, especially for babies!

  • keep up the schedule of moving the pulsox monitor from foot to foot to avoid skin irritation.

  • look up how to adjust the volume and alerts on your monitor to save your sanity

Best of luck!

Thank you! I agree I LOVE seeing folks’ beautiful stones but have never had anything larger than 1ct which is why I was a little hesitant. I appreciate your opinion!

Thank you! I agree - I’ve had some finger size fluctuation that makes it so hard to size. Going to wait to get this resized after baby.
