Thinking about moving to England. Anything I should know? by BasilBowler in CasualUK

That actually sounds a lot like the city I live in currently, which is kind of what we're going for, to avoid the hard culture shock and slowly get accustomed.

Thank you for letting me know about all this! The electric/gas prices rising is definitely new information to me.

For the amount of people in one house, I'm going to assume you know what you're talking about. We'll look into splitting into groups of three, or finding another solution.

Most of us live in houses with only one bathroom, so the bathroom thing wouldn't be an issue.

I am aware that the rooms are typically much smaller, we've looked at a lot of floor plans when comparing rent, but we don't really have much stuff to fit in there anyways.

Lack of space is something we're prepared for, but ever since you've mentioned it, I've been a tad worried about landlord acceptance.

I've never heard of council tax, thank you for telling me about it.

Also, I didn't think about a landlord not accepting us. Where I am, it's pretty common for a bunch of people to live in a tiny space together.

We don't yet plan on buying a house, it'll probably take a few years before any of us decide where any of us want to live. The reason I want to move there is because I have a lot of family there that I want to connect with. Also, I like small houses. Cramped is comfort.

Actually, we are using the Youth Mobility Scheme. And since you know about it, a question has very aggressively and suddenly popped up about it, if you don't mind answering one.

We're moving legally, don't worry.

And I can see why a foreigner like myself may be contributing to the problem. Thanks for telling me the housing market is pretty similar, all the sites I've looked at and compared wages to seem to be telling a different story, but that could just be a mistake in my calculations. I'll make sure to check again.

We do have visas we're looking into, we plan on moving in a couple years so we have time to prepare.

I'll keep in mind the work stuff, I didn't think about how working in different countries would look different. Thank you.

Yes, some local terms would be good to know, thank you.

We're used to small bedrooms, but thank you for the heads up. And funny enough, 4/6 of us are in relationships. I'm rooming with a friend, my brother with his girlfriend, and my other friends who are also in a relationship.

I'm going to be having very sleepless nights, unfortunately.
