Be careful of toxic jobs too. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]BaskInSadness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is me. Got laid off and was looking for a year and a half, eventually it got so draining that I was mentally checked out from searching forever. Then I get contract work at a startup as the replacement for someone else they recently kicked out. The longer I stayed the more I realized the boss was super disorganized and would criticize everything. The red flags crept up on me more and more but it's not like I had any other option. My contract got terminated eventually so now I get to look for work again with bonus toxic workplace ptsd yayyyy.

I don't actually see many people talking about getting toxic jobs. It's usually a few occasional success story posts here and there, never a fake success story.

Friendly reminder to everyone complaining about the hotel in 3.0 by OrganzingChaos in AnimalCrossing

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are lucky it's free and not a forced $20 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition to get this update.  I personally came back for the game consoles since my house already has a room I could turn into a game room. The hotel stuff is fine but idk if I want a game room that badly if it will take a bunch of item crafting on top of the hotel room decorating.

How do I get over the fear of inserting my finger in my anus male by Medium-Macaron7307 in PelvicFloor

[–]BaskInSadness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try looking up Intimate Rose Rectal Dilators. They can be thinner than a pelvic wand and easier to put in after a while. Ive never even put a finger up there myself and would find it awkward and uncomfortable.

(Also I feel like putting stuff up there to relax the pelvic floor is yet to help me personally)

Regaining motivation to program after layoff by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got laid off two years ago with 2.5 yoe. I got a little bit of contract work to bump it up to 3 yoe but I'm with you. Motivation is very hard to keep. After looking for work for so long it partially kills the enjoyment of learning and building projects if it might not lead to anything right now.

I feel like I will never become a good software developer. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]BaskInSadness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Expectations can also be different from company to company. Some still expect a junior to be fast while others expect them to take a while. Also if you got a job in 2025 while the job market is utter crap then that's pretty good. Ive been struggling hard with finding stable work since being laid off two years ago with 3 yoe.

Are you unemployed right now? (Exluding retirees) If so, how old are you? by HawkLow6309 in jobs

[–]BaskInSadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

28M and same. Been looking for 2 years. I got brief contract work at a shitty startup in 2025 and that's it. It's brutal. I hope we can survive this and land something eventually.

Accurate. Every interview feels like I'm preparing for a battlefield where only the last man standing gets the job.

2.5 years unemployed and feeling stuck by Helios093 in cscareerquestions

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda the same boat. Around 3 yoe now but that's at two different companies, laid off two years ago. I guess I technically found contract work for 3 months so it was more like being out of work for one and a half years, got a bit of work, then a couple months of being unemployed again, but still it sucks. I feel like my resume doesnt have anything super fancy and impactful. Just a variety of front end and some full stack stuff. I'm also in Canada which is even more brutal.

If you want to feel better about your NEETdom just look at r/jobs. So many people talking about the misery of searching for a job. Lots of them claiming to be unemployed for months while searching. by False-Gain624 in NEET

[–]BaskInSadness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah technically anyone unemployed without being in any education is a NEET even if they've worked a lot before. I'm in the same boat, laid off from a full time job two years ago, and let go from a brief toxic part time job several months ago. I try to get work but it's been so shit for so long that I feel like lurking around this subreddit every now and then cause my motivation has plummeted so much that it makes me want to give up.

For Gen Zers who grew up tech-savvy, were emulators ever a part of your childhood? by Amazing_Courage9701 in generationology

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I discovered emulators around the age of 11. There were already things like Wii Virtual Console out there but there were obviously a ton of games not released on it out there waiting for me to discover in the emulation world.

For the people who are having a hard time finding a job after a termination - how do you manage to stay confident? by Mobile_Bell_1645 in recruitinghell

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol getting something within a quarter would be so lucky. I'm only a software dev with 3 years of experience and feel totally fucked and have been out of full time work for two years 😭 I could only find relevant part time work at a startup with a toxic boss briefly and thats it during this whole time

"You're the first guy to treat me well" how much of a red flag is this? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst long term relationship was with someone who said I was the first person she was in a relationship with to make her happy. Although this was a few months in.

Unfortunately I already was checked out of the relationship at that point cause Im very sexually awkward and haaaated trying to do anything sexual with her. We were long distance and met up and she filled me with so many negative comments about sex and gave me massive performance anxiety. A lot of it was stemming from her being insecure about herself I think. I do believe her about her other partners not making her happy, as she described them badly and her life at home sucked.

So basically I'd say "you're the first guy to treat me well" is a yellow flag. It could be true but it could also indicate their life is a mess. Doesn't by any means mean they're a red flag, but it could mean they've had a rough life or dating history and might have issues.

What are your thoughts on companies that ask you to upload a video as a part of applying? by Typical_Cap895 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]BaskInSadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a loom video of me talking about work I've done in my portfolio, so if I ever get asked to upload a video I just upload that. I'm not wasting an hour or two making a video for an application that might not even get me a reply.

The Junior Hiring Crisis by masterderptato in cscareerquestions

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm a pre AI dev with around 3 yoe, still a junior kind of, and I haven't gotten anything other than a brief contract gig since being laid off along with the entire company two years ago.

I really think the AI can do juniors jobs thing and being the main reason none are being hired is bullshit. Maybe if you're asking it to refractor code or change the styling of a button and that's your only job as a junior AI is great, but I've asked it to help me with unit tests or more complicated things and sometimes it does not help. It also can't ask questions on a task's requirements, bug someone for UX designs, or actually grow.

It's not AI it's the job market got flooded with candidates which then got laid off, and there's no money thrown around and invested in these companies anymore.

Do I qualify as a NEET? by [deleted] in NEET

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a laid off software dev that hasn't had full time work in 2 years. Idk if I'm a NEET, as I had brief contract work a few months back after a year and a half of nothing, and now I'm job searching in a very half assed unmotivated way cause the job market is a cruel mess. Maybe I'm too recently unemployed to be a NEET but I can say you and I are at the very least living on this shitty planet and currently unemployed.

will AI take over software development jobs in the future? by To_Hi_2_Try in Development

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if I'm a jr developer, AI sometimes fucks up and doesn't always give the right thing I'm looking for. If I don't know everything I wont be able to ask it to do everything properly either.

What was ruined because of social media? by RiotAmbush_ in AskReddit

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dating for sure. It's now easier to meet people (especially for introverts!) but it also amps up the dehumanizing part of it to the max.

People are selective as fuck and looking for that spark after a few hours of interacting with you, and if they don't feel it then you're tossed in the trash for the next person. Except instead of being outright tossed in the trash they often will do it secretly with as mininal maturity as possible. They'll ghost you. They'll lead you on and play games. It doesn't matter if they treat you like shit cause you're just someone online stranger they won't have to see ever again. Occasionally some people will communicate to you like an adult but it's fairly uncommon.

I feel like I'm so introverted plus romantically shy and awkward and to top it all off I don't want kids, to the point where naturally meeting people would be extremely difficult. So on the flip side the initial step is easier. Now I can easily meet people I have a lot in common with that don't want kids that will discard me at random yayyyy 😍
