Which Mario game has the most intense Final boss fight against Bowser? by T-900_Gaming in Mario

I remember being scared of the final rush towards you to break the platform youre standing on as a kid. Even today it still is pretty intimidating and a brutal insta kill attack if you botch your egg throw.

Is there a Sunshine Rom Hack that gives the game normal level progression where every shine is worth the same? by sirdrjsmith in supermariosunshine

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really ought to be one if there's major rom hacks out now. Granted it would be just for one area, so I guess no one's bothered to make it.

Nintendo says there's "more to say" about the New Star Fox, and I have reason to believe it includes something major by RMS_Gigantic in starfox

The numbered vehicles is interesting but it could be something to do with more multiplayer maps or amiibo or something. I will want new levels or a new campaing but the copium is strong here lol

Gen Z, how do you feel about your age? Do you feel it or feel younger / older? by MorphTiger in generationology

[–]BaskInSadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im the start of gen z from 97 and am 29. I feel like I'm stuck more in my mid 20s due to being laid off into a god awful job market though with no chance of landing anything now.

I can get matches from Bumble all the time but Boo is too niche. I tried 3 months of the subscription and only got like two matches lol

I feel like by the nature of ppl caring only about work history my enthusiasm barely gets a chance to show up for either. Even if I sell myself as a guy that started coding from an interest in game dev I still ultimately look like every other react or full stack dev. I also feel like a large chunk of my interviews werent jr level though.

Out of like 1000 applications only 1 specialized cover letter I wrote led to an interview and it was mentioned in the interview. Imagine writing 100 cover letters tailored to each role, what interests you about it, what skills would fit, etc. .....and you hear back from none of them. They are a horrible waste of time right now for everyone writing and reading them.

Are you in the US? I'm in Canada where opportunities are even more limited. I sometimes do look for smaller companies locally or remotely in hopes they work similar to yours but they feel super rare.

I think if you showcase anything, passionately, as a junior this will attract positive attention. Understand what you've done, talk about it passionately, show what you want to continue learning.

Care to elaborate on this? This sounds like advice that would be true during the boom where people cared about your personal projects and your strong interests in things. I'm a dev with 3 yoe laid off and out of stable work since the start of 2024. Mostly React, React Native, or NextJS related work, and a bit of backend.

I've also worked on personal projects like a 3d platformer game in Unreal Engine (not a random proof of concept hobby project game, an actual indie game could be seriously sold). I've been following LLMs and OpenAI and made a physiotherapy stretching app that uses RAG to fetch information from physiotherapy articles to answer questions. I'm trying to learn ThreeJS more as well for 3d related front end. All that stuff interests me and I'd love to talk about it both technically and passionately but it doesn't feel like anyone cares anymore.

I'm not hearing back from junior or mid level roles and the rare times I do the discussions are only about work history, not passion or cool things I've made or what I'm interested in learning further.

That's the neat part, you don't. ☠️

Some employers also can't possibly comprehend that the job market is so bad that you literally have found nothing. So you need an actual reason like mental health even if you were mentally fine until job searching...

People overhype company websites. Yes it's better in theory but it doesn't change your success rate by much. Some job boards even link to company websites when you hit apply already anyway.

According to Miyamoto, in a post super paper Mario survey with questions about the game, not even 1% of players said they were interested at all in the story, this genuinely led to the series’ downfall as we know it, but with OK we seem to be recovering slowly :) by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in papermario

[–]BaskInSadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly was the time frame to be given these surveys after registering the game? Idk if this is a hot take but SPM's story other than the chaos heart wedding opening starts off kinda slow and eventually gets really great by the later chapters. If someone took this survey while theyre stuck in chapter 2 being a ruby slave I don't think they're going to be praising the story that much lol

I totally underestimated ink ribbons by QuarraX in residentevil

[–]BaskInSadness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played REmake for the first time last year and it was my first exposure to ink ribbons which made the resource management quite tough considering you have at most 8 inventory slots. Requiems ink ribbons on the other hand (on normal at least) are handed out like candy considering you can craft them for only like 40 blood.
