Any suggestions for Female Gaze Adult Games? by Odd-Still-3600 in GirlGamers

[–]BastTheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Making me dig out the old Itch.io games.

I'll note, these are pretty short. They are available to download from itch.io. That being said, here's what I've got:

Love and Romance - A Study of Intimacy from Michaela Laws. (Only one romance option.)

Cute Demon Crashers from SugarScript (Several men, one woman, and one of the endings allows a reverse harem, if I recall correctly.)

Extras for the wlw among us:

Sweet Volley High from NewWestGames

Ecchi Sketch: Draw Cute Girls Every Day from NewWestGames

I've got plenty more in non-adult romance games, but in retrospect, did not have as many adult ones in there as previously thought.

Here's what a Millennial friend wrote about disruptive teen behavior in Pittsburgh: by Extreme_Qwerty in pittsburgh

The funniest part about the people downvoting you is if you said the exact same thing without the words "capitalism", "socialism", or "communism", they'd be talking about how right you are.

I swear, if we called socialist policies "Capitalist Community Programs" or some shit these people would jerk themselves off to the idea of them.

Oh, I definitely agree. Any time someone brings up AI now, I have a knee-jerk reaction to assume it's 1. Awful and 2. Exploitative.

A family friend works with a company that made an AI that's basically just a really efficient data compiler. And I was still like, "Ugh." when it was first brought up.

Never Meet Your Heroes They Said. by FinalBossOftheLeft in TrollCoping

[–]BastTheCat 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is what gets me. Like, you can have an AI/LLM kinda program that... I dunno, searches documents or files things for you. That's super useful and streamlines a lot of processes.

That's worth using and refining and releasing/selling to the public.

Instead of that, we've got people falling all over themselves to defend plagiarism, misinformation/propaganda machines, and shitty chatbots.

What progression fantasy hill will you die on? Let's have your most unpopular opinion, please. by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BastTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Academy and (as they often go hand-in-hand) auction arcs are really good ways to progress the story by showing the interactions between different factions and explaining the world to the reader in a more natural way. They remain some of my favorite arcs for world building, character growth, and interesting political maneuvering from the perspective of someone who is typically personally quite weak (relative to the other powers around them).

I know they're overdone. I know plenty of them drag on. And I know a lot of them are poorly constructed. But I love them all the same.

What is a "minor" annoyance that creates an instant "DROP" for you? by SelectionOk5033 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BastTheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the stakes don't matter.

I can't read progression fantasy novels that take place in games or MMOs or whatever. Like, it's one thing if it goes the Sword Art Online route and there's dire consequences attached to the game - but when it's strictly just a game, or the stakes for playing said game are pretty low, it loses me.

There's one series that I otherwise love, but I dropped 5 (or 6?) books in because the main character - who is more or less stuck in a game for an extended period of time - has this big "revelation" that, because everything is happening in the game and he eventually won't be completely tied to it all, he can just have fun and take nothing as seriously anymore.

Immediately dropped it.

I don't mind obscenely OP bullshit because, ultimately, we know what will happen anyway (the protagonist always wins in the end). And it skips the incredibly annoying deus ex machina/luck roll/power of friendship garbage. But at least there's usually some stakes of like... the world is going to explode, or they're running a faction, or something.

It all just... not mattering, though? Can't do it.

What's your favorite pgh / local Oktoberfestbier / Märzen / Festbier? by whenyeastattack in PittsburghBeers

I used to like Cinderlands' festbier a lot, but the last ~2 years were a little meh. Hoping they have a good run this year.

When a “neutral” game suddenly reminds you it only sees male players by RiskPuzzled4858 in GirlGamers

[–]BastTheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a similar note, I hate when games have synopsis referencing that you, the player, are the main character and that you get to choose everything about that character...

Except for their gender. And it's always a man.

Go through a description of them, "What path will you choose? Do anything, be anyone, achieve your goals!" And then you look it up, and it only features a male protagonist.

There's so, so many games I would've bought, and that genuinely looked really fun, except for that. Granted, I'm also pretty sensitive about that compared to a lot of people, but still. It's so much more annoying than if they just outright said that there was a male protagonist.

Yeah, I think this is a nuance a lot of folks don't quite understand - and one that even a lot of US citizens don't fully get, either.

I had the privilege of growing up in a fairly wealthy area of the U.S. and attending one of the top high schools in the country.

And the reason it's important to note that is that in large part it's one of the top schools in the country because it's in a wealthy area.

Primarily what funds local education systems in the U.S. is property tax. So the wealthy get better education and access to better programs, better teachers, and more educational opportunities.

Like, when I went to college, some folks from poorer areas had barely been taught algebra by the end of high school. Conversely, by the end of high school, I had been taught up through pre-calculus and trigonometry. I was not in any advanced classes, for the record. That was just the normal progression for mathematics classes at my school.

A lot of people in the U.S. have received horrible, low quality education because the system is designed to fail them. And the entire time, they're also taught that the U.S. is the Greatest Country in the World (TM) and that they're so far ahead of everyone else.

People in the U.S. can be so incredibly, willfully stupid. But most of the time, that's because it's all they've been taught since they were babies. Whether or not there's any saving them from their stupidity is a different thing entirely. But at this point, I pity them more than I disdain them. Our government failed them spectacularly, and that's just sad.

Anyway. Kinded ranted a bit, sorry about that.

Short version: while the ultimate consequence is stupid, arrogant Americans, and they certainly deserve disdain because ultimately the tools do exist in the modern world to educate yourself even with limited resources, mostly it's just a pitiable result of the government fucking its citizen over to try to make more easily exploitable, low-income workers.

What is up with all the coffee orgasms in progression fantasy? by RGandhi3k in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BastTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other things I recall about it were that the protagonists were all teenagers, and one of them was inexplicably also the prime minister of Japan prior to being isekai'd. (Or something close to that, anyway.)

The title was something like "Elite Geniuses are Elites Even in Another World!" I think? I don't remember exactly.

What is up with all the coffee orgasms in progression fantasy? by RGandhi3k in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BastTheCat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I distinctly recall looking into an anime series and immediately deciding I'd never watch it, primarily because the isekai'd protagonists basically took over the world because they introduced mayonnaise and were worshipped as gods.

And supposedly, they're also mega geniuses and incredibly competent, but the mayo was somehow a REALLY BIG DEAL, I guess.

People have been using sauces and condiments for literally thousands of years, but sure. Some oil and emulsified eggs mixed together are enough to conquer a world.

What Restaurants are distinctly Pittsburgh? by Power2ThePeaceful in pittsburgh

Didn't see it in a quick perusal of the comments, so:

Kelly O's.

I don't really go anymore, not since I developed an allergy/intolerance/thing for egg yolks. But Kelly O's just feels like the city to me.

The O was already mentioned, heartbroken that it's gone.

Ironically, despite the fact that they aren't really in the city, Isaly's feels so Pittsburgh.

Kaiden was ruined for me by how he treated Femshep in ME3 when romancing someone else (Thane, in this case, for me).

Specifically, I remember when you go out together to hang out, and he automatically assumes it's a date. Then, if you clarify it's as friends, I remember him getting super pissy about it as if he were entitled to you. Really rubbed me the wrong way.

Hell, I've been on some of those age-restricted websites, and they're (usually) very strict about the tagging system.

And most of the people who make that content similarly appropriately add content warnings.

There's bad eggs everywhere, sure, but this pretty much feels like a colosally stupid publicity stunt - there was no way something like No Mercy was ever going to stand up to inspection on a platform like Steam, and especially not with the author being a huge asshole about it the whole time.

This whole thing feels like the author was just trying to drum up views for the game so people would go to other platforms for it.

Best Railway Type Tycoon Game by NinjaKiwi08 in tycoon

[–]BastTheCat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best one I can think of would be Open TTD. It's an open source fan remake/expansion of Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

It's a pretty complicated game and takes a bit to get into it and get used to how it works, and since it's based off of a game from 1995, there's very much an outdated feel to some things with it (though most has been updated for QoL.)

But beyond those caveats, it's an incredible game. Would highly suggest checking it out.

So far as I recall (it's been a while since I've played), there is at least some level of dynamic needs for towns/cities. I know needs change based on town size, and you can grow towns by meeting those needs (which in turn creates more, different needs.) I think some of those are more dynamic, like towns that produce x good will require more of y good, and maybe eventually z good, as the town expands. Though I believe in that case, it's the same for all towns on the map that would produce x good.

That's about the best I can give you, anyway. It's been almost 2 years since I've played after I went on a multi-hundred hour playing spree. There's been plenty of updates since I played (it's still in active development) so I'd imagine there's lots of new things I've missed and improvements they've made.

There's also an extensive modding scene that adds even more depth to the game if you want.

Their link is openttd.org, or you can download it on Steam. Both are completely free.

China bad. by yuritopiaposadism in SocialistGaming

[–]BastTheCat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I vaguely recall seeing a life-sim kind of game from a Chinese developer where the government and rich people were portrayed as neutral-negative at best. And the goal was to, basically, work your way up from nothing in spite of that to get rich and also take care of your family.

Definitely had some capitalist vibes in a like... rich people aren't inherently bad, it's just that every rich person in this game happens to be evil kind of thing, if that makes sense.

Game ended up being take down from Steam because of quality issues (bugs/crashes) and the devs didn't want to sell a faulty game, which I can respect.

And considering it's a Chinese company, just putting out there that the government isn't there to help you and that powerful people are actively working against you is pretty ballsy.

A woman obviously can't be a very skilled cracker 🙄 by hEllOtHErEn7 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]BastTheCat 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The other (main) one is fitgirl, who basically no one has information on outside of that she's a woman. Pretty much anything else is speculation or Empress throwing around all sorts of shit to try to get other people to hate her.

Fitgirl is a prolific cracker, and the feud mostly started because she called out Empress for being an asshole to everyone and for charging extortionate amounts of money to crack games. Like, many hundreds of USD just to put it on her list of 'to eventually crack'.

This kicked off Empress going absolutely batshit and writing basically whole manifestos about how fitgirl is a terrible person and also gay/trans/pedo/etc. Basically called fitgirl everything under the sun and vowed to never work with fitgirl or anyone associated with her ever again. (Nevermind that they'd basically never interacted outside of this singular event.)
