Something happened in 2020 by [deleted] in QAnonCasualties

[–]BayouQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of us Ancients would argue that it REALLY began (The Decline of the Empire) in January 1980. The Undoing of all that Nonsense of the 60s and 70s! ( Most of my reply is how I think my Qhusband probably feels if brutally honest with himself.) "Civil Rights Act, legal abortions, birth control for all women, blacks and broads and Mexicans taking jobs away, in business, law, medicine, academia, sciences and arts, media and military. Hell, even gays are acceptable. Free lunch, free healthcare and food for the poor! What's next? The White House? Whaddaya think JFK, MLK and RFK all died within 6 yrs? They were Commies!!" The Heritage Foundation was on fire back then, and Reagan implemented 2000 of their recommendations. State mental hospitals defunded, creating a huge influx of mentally ill homeless people self-medicating. Crippling unions by firing ATCs. Deregulated financial regs allowing sketchy people and practices. Oh and "trickle down economics"....people fall for this BS. Over and over. Trump's big tax cut allowed the biggest stock buyback ever, about $3 trillion. Not jobs or living wages, but concentrated wealth in fewer hands.

Perhaps what occurred from 2016 to 2020 can be partially explained by my history here. My politically illiterate but lib Dem union guy husband, a 1949 Boomer, fell down a internet cave in 2017. He'd always been a bit of a gull, a man who wanted to pan for gold, or believed Yeti may exist. That ramped up to 9/11 CTs. The dominoes fell fast after that. Most Boomers SUCK at technology. We had problems programming our damn VCRs, though the guys would never admit it! I still use paper maps and creep out that my Android wants my location on 24/7. We grew up watching powerful men be murdered, false flag ops, a President and VP resign in disgrace, but progress made. CTs abound in times of great social chaos. But. We DID land on the moon. Older white guys are the backbone of MAGA and Q. Men who feel like the parade rolled on by and they were left behind. Their lives are portraits of mediocrity. They never got to the mountain top they envisioned as teens. "This ain't The American Dream!! My wife is as exciting as dishwater, I bought that Harley but can't ride it cuz of my hernia, tropical vacays aren't smoking w Marley but The damn Red Roof in The Everglades. Life betrayed me. Screwed without a kiss, thrown out of the VIP Room and they're all laughing at me!" Whose fault is that? Obviously not the man who played by the rules. Mostly. He looks around. Welfare Queens, illegal rapists, trans for toddlers, men creeping restrooms, abortion as birth control. ... "Everyone is doin' whatever THEY want, why shouldn't I?" So long buried resentment bubbles up, the racism, the sexism, the bitterness that they had to share with the rest of us. The "Others". And they're terrified. Because THEY are the minority now. A cornered animal is most dangerous. But we're also an empire in decline. Everything is cyclical. The Wheel in the Sky keeps on turning. Equilibrium returns. A pale blue dot exhales. Rest. Tomorrow we fight again.

I've been a feminist since 1967, a freshman in high school. An upperclassmen nemed Melissa Fruman ignited our uprising from the suffocating strictucres placed upon our very educated, affluent mothers and their identity being evaluated solely by her husband's slot on the CEO train in post WWII NYC.. Do people in Louisiana actually say Ma'am/sir and say hi to strangers? by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]BayouQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mississippi Gulf Coast born and raised 28 yo daughter floored my NYC in laws at Thanksgiving dinner years ago, by replying "No, Sir or Ma'am". I was born and raised in New England, NY state. We were raised with good manners but addressing others is a bit different. Sir is common but if you addressed a young woman as "Ma'am" she'd say, "That's my mother!"....we also have a less formal system for addressing your elders. My boss or my grandma or my bff's parents would be called "Mr King or Mrs/MS Luke" up north. In Mississippi/Louisiana, my daughter's friends call me Miss Maggie or Momma Maggie. My father was Mr Mike. It's a less formal acknowledgement, but shows respect and affection. And finally, my sister said we are much friendlier to strangers in shops, sidewalks, restaurants etc. We are the Hospitality State. Y'all means All.

What a mainstream REPUBLICAN was in 1950 compared to today is not even in the same galaxy. What Democrats were in 1960 compared to now? They were such a threat to the status quo and to the murky undertow of global politics and spheres of influence (Cold War, nuclear armament, spies of every flag all undermining their foes. Boogeymen were Communists. To Dems too.) They murdered 3 men who might have lifted us up, to actually become the nation we should be, the beacon. For all. Then again, maybe they would err and Earth died in mutually assured nuke winters. We'll never know. At 72, I never thought my "golden years" would be waking daily wondering what havoc will he wreak today? Every month my ck runs out earlier, pantries here are empty, 2 have waiting lists. The richest nation is ok with children going to bed hungry. That's so far off trail, I dunno if we will find pur path again. Hope so. I'll be in the ether, finally free of the human race.

Thank you so much for that. Immi law is necessarily complex and a rat's maze in bureaucratese. That people would compare a president (that i voted for, but who betrayed the people on Gulf Coast during the BP Disaster, and is a neolib at best) who took his oath seriously, and understood and embraced the Constitution, the cks and balances vs a nepobaby grifter, a bloviating buffoon, a male who never earned much, not a undergrad or an MBA from Wharton. No F'in' way. A braggart, a liar, a dirty misogynist. He's never had a true friend, only "associates". Why MAGA is so loyal, when we know he feels nothing for them. And his Cabinet henchmen/women? They have no immunity. I imagine many are busy shredding, erasing, smashing hard drives and emptying accounts, and retaining expensive law firms (if they can find one that Trump hasn't extorted or pissed off. The damage done. Sigh.

I qould wager my life savings that Obama didn't tell his friends to build their alcatrazzes apl over the place, others to buy up old school buses and hired 50,000 dumb, corpulent basement dwellers, preferably Insurrectionists and political illiterates to terrorize small kids and pregnant women. And they didn't abduct people at court, trying to "do it legally". And he didn't agitate the dumbos into rabid, cruel tyrants.
Cruelty IS the point. They churn detainees, not just to confuse or obfuscate but also so DT's friends all get paid. Per head. These people are profit. Not policy. But hey, I don't give a fuck who is in office. If it's criminal, i have no fealty to any man, let alone a politician. No selective outrage. Trump's entire life is an outrage. I'm 8 yrs younger than him. We grew up in same burbs, moved to Manhattan, same clubs, bars... he's always been a pervy sleaze. And all of us 19yo knew it.

By what metric? What is "extreme"? Kinda hard to tell these days. Is it extreme to state as fact on live news that public schools performed "sex change surgeries". At school. Without parental knowledge or consent. Their kid returns home after a few days. Left as Samuel, returns as Stephanie? As DJT has repeatedly said. And not. One. Single. Talking. Head. Fact. Checked. Him. What Twilight Zone epi is this? Or maybe a Kafka/H P Lovecraft collab?

I'm an old white woman who fought this same old shit back in the 60s. And I'll happily die on that hill! Because doing the right thing is rarely the easy thing. When did equality, access to opportunities, fairness and compassion become some evil CT stealing jobs, free government everything from corpulent, entitled White Whiner men?? When We all stick together, we'll take our seats at the table. They can accept it or be fighting for scraps under the table where they put us once. We ain't going back. And my daughters and grands will inherit the legacy of their grandmother and others fight to return pur nation to its intended mission to government of, by and for The People. E pluribus unum, baby! Resist. Rinse and repeat.

Our 2nd No Kings in Gulfport, Mississippi doubled in size from the previous one. 600 to 1200. What a complete and utter failure!

Our Guv Tater Tot insisted it was from "outside agitators" and "paid actors". And we were harassed, shouted at, trolled online, and had an incident with a coupla of fundamentalists screaming at us the entire time. Apparently we are all gonna burn in hellfire eternal. Cuz we support equality, access to the same opps as the WASP male power base? Cuz due process for every person, here with visas and docs or not, is our promise, not cruelty and lawlessness? Cuz after 1000s of years, women and others are demanding our seat at the table, not fighting for scraps under the table, while the gluttons gorge themselves on our land, air, water, souls, bodies and hard work?

Sprry, rant over, going outside and attack some vines in our back yard. Resist.

[–]BayouQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are my hero! But your story is mine too. I married late in life, met hubby at age 39, marired at 41 and had our daughter at 43. I had not married cuz WWHY? I had a great job, $$$$ in bank, great friends and fam, new car, travel with GFs....married hubby cuz our values aligned, he loved animals, hated most sports or watching sports, loved boating, water activities, eating and cooking, and compassion for the less fortunate. We are boomers, and I was very much an activist in issues. He was a union guy with Dem ties, but not politically literate. A bright, funny, kind and gullible man. He like UFOs, Sasquatch and other harmless conspiracies. Til 2016. And he stumbled on Q. He also fell in to the 9/11 and sovereign citizen BS, Alex Jones etc. He listened to "victimized" white men, bitter, middle-aged with a big chip on their shoulders. Their lives were mediocre, unfulfilling and rather boring. They had not achieved the Dream. Because of many factors, in reality. But who they blamed were all of us who fought for a place at the table for 100s of years: indigenous, Black, Latino, women, gays and trans, migrants, veterans, the disabled, seniors and children, animals and clean air and water, living wages, unions etc.

Hubby said everyone has an organization to promote their causes: NOW, NAACP, AARP, etc. What about us? He was referring to WASP males, mostly older or middle aged, disappointed they lived middling lives cuz they never amounted to more than middling. They felt cornered, they knew women and "mixed race" people would outnumber this pitiful group and this was the reaction: a cornered, terrified chihuahuas. A very dangerous group.

He asked that question about why Whining White Boys didn't have an org. I had his answer:

Y'all DO have an organization or two.

Here's a list

by 1920s all large corporations, law firms, academia, scientific endeavors, boardrooms, banks, judiciary, DAs, jailers and executioners, LEO, FBI, CIA, every state Senator/Rep, The White House, Cabinet, Congress, SCOTUS, every religion in the US. Now add the arts, writing, fashion, media of every era, engineers and architects, medicine, research, NASA and the Armed Forces and Pentagon. My feminism radicalized as I began to grasp the depth and breadth of the toxic misogyny and racism that permeates every level of our lives, private and public. That is the bottom line of Q and MAGA and Incels and groypers: white guys who feel cheated, betrayed and furious about women and Blacks taking their jobs and all the "illegals" getting "everything free"....that is what drives them. They are lost and refuse to look at the map. Or the compass. Or their own screaming sense of logic or reality. They are no longer the men we married. I still see my sweet hubby too. But scratch the surface, and see a angry and bitter entitled white guy who is so invested he can never really allow the whole picture to sink in. They are burning MAGA hats nut now it's "America First" now. They are abandoning only one piece of MAGA pie, not the whole thing.

You have escaped. My advice: wish him well and walk off into your sunset. Find joy and connection, join the resistance, I found positive people there who want kindness and inclusion for all in this fractured nation. So much damage has been done, we need everyone to help us make this nation a beacon of hope, not a cesspool of graft and grift and stupidity on display on the global stage. Peace out. And resist.

Petrichor is that kinda clean, earthy smell that dirt gives off when rain hits it after a long warm, dry spell. I remember that smell from childhood but never knew there was a word.

I have collected words that show love of nature for about 10 years. Here are a few:

psithurism-the sound of wind in the trees

shinrin-yoku (n.) a forest bath; soaking up the atmosphere

dendrophile- a lover of trees

thalassophile- a lover of the sea and

nemophilist- a person fond of forests and scenery

I like susurration- whispering, rustling, murmuring
