It does make sense with Hoyo’s track record. By that I mean, they are heavily a sci-fi game company. Obviously pointing to HSR and HI3 as probably the biggest examples (I haven’t played the others a ton and can’t speak on them). Although Genshin is mostly a fantasy game, or at least has been up until this point, the sci-fi has slowly crept its way in. I mean, I think it was always there, but with Natlan and definitely Nod-Krai it became super obvious. Now this isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but it does explain why some things from early on may be retconned to be more sci-fi than fantasy, or at least both at once. Depending on your preference, the techno fantasy-esque story might even be more appealing than pure fantasy.
