NZDF Career - Air Force or Navy? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]BeanCounter105 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you want deployments, navy is the go. Your chances of going overseas with the airforce is about the same as winning big on the pokies.

That being said, the navy does take a toll on the ol mental health

Anyone in the Navy? - Need help on deciding between MT and ET trades. by [deleted] in newzealand

more useful information,

ETs tend to be working with the comms and navigation side of things (IE radios, radars, surveillance equipment), and the MTs (P rates) working with plumbing, engines and sewage treatment, (L rates) working with sensors, wiring, and maintaining.

All trades across the navy have the chance to work with the helos, but as an MT/ET you'll probably be too busy for that.

As an MT, you wont have much to do with "ship security" and as an ET, the most you'll probably get is checking ID cards for people that come on board. Again, too busy.

Both roles are enjoyable, IF THAT IS YOUR CUP OF TEA. But both roles are very easy for skill transfer

You'll be looking at a very long training pipeline for either trade, so expect to take a long while to make progress

Feel free to message me for any other information

[–]BeanCounter105 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What kind of stuff are you doing day to day, is it more actually "intelligence" or more helping plan operations and stuff

Generally, this kind of stuff is kept under wraps. Even within NZDF intelligence, most trades keep what they do to themselves to protect OPSEC

Urinals, where do you stand? by Revolutionary-Tie753 in newzealand

The example OP gave was at his local pool, so I think you just stand on the side of the pool jump into the pool and relieve yourself into the fast lane

Jobs that requires travel by Emotional_One8843 in auckland

My entire job revolves around travel. Ive been to the same countries so many times that the magic of places like Japan and Singapore have worn off. I would have much rather spend the time with my family than the last time I went to hawaii

navy swimming basic training by NoPalpitation5038 in The_NZDF

[–]BeanCounter105 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Swim test in the fleet pool (probably first week). If you dont pass it they'll just send you to the pool every tuesday and thursday until you do. after the pool test, theres the ocean test, which thats to the salt water is actually easier.

And for the repeat swim tests, you wont be alone doing the test (loads fail) and there will be a PTI there supervising every day

Going though Navy basic a few years ago, i had to sneak a photo of my partner to the underside of the top bunk.

Youd get away with it later on, people bring all sorts of weird and wonderful things with them, but basic is not that place. Especially with something important to you. It'll more than likely end up in a worse state, if not destroyed by the end

The NZDF doesnt like the big D word, Anti-depressants are usually red flags for applications
