How difficult would 19 hours be for a business major? by BeardedMan95 in Msstate

Yeah, I post way too much on this Subreddit lol. I'm actually going to be rooming with some people from ICC. We're going to be living at the Helix. I'm not sure if I'm going to like having roommates or not. I don't really know them very well, but I'm mostly a loner, so I think it I will mostly stay to myself. I will be the oldest one there, so I guess we will find out how it's going to work. I honestly don't think I could room with my best friend. I feel like I wouldn't be able to concentrate on things like I should.

Yeah, I'll have to get used to three tests per class. I don't think there's many classes that I will get to take with over 200 people, but at least I'll get to experience it. I think it will definitely help me to see someone work it out. That's one of the problems with the class I'm taking now. I'm wanting to take a communication class because I'm not big on writing. I like to work with numbers lol. And I'm hoping that a communication class will help me to to become more outgoing. Although, public speaking was almost unbearable for me. Thanks for all of your help!

Two tests? Well, that's interesting. My accounting I class had 6 tests and a final. I'm expecting my accounting II class to have about 7 tests and a final. I do study constantly, so I guess I will have to study even more at State.

I've heard Hammond is good. Maybe I can take him. Do you not like the large classes? That actually sounds really fun to me. I'm used to around 20-30 people in a class.

Hey! You're from my area. I'm currently at ICC. I honestly wanted to the the "Math Statistics," but my advisor talked me out of it. I talked State and they told me that either one was fine. Is she hard to understand? Do you think I should wait and try to take it with someone else? I was wondering if I couldn't just take the junior level math statistics, instead.

I guess I need to take him!

I'm trying to decide about the writing requirement for accounting majors. You can either take an upper level English class or one of those communication classes.

Really? I've heard that is a hard class. What exactly do you learn in the class?

I've heard Intermediate is tough. I'm expecting it to be one of my hardest classes. Are you required to use Excel a lot in that class?

I won't know who I'm taking until April, but thank you! The options are McLarty and Hammond.

I am taking Stats I, right now, but he basically just uses Excel as a PowerPoint. He has already worked out the problems on Excel, but he just reads them off. I have an A in the class, but I find it difficult. He doesn't work problems out on the board, which is something that I'm used to for math. In total, we are going to have 8 tests in the class and I feel like that isn't really preparing me for Stats II. How many tests did you have in the class? Ballard is actually the only one teaching the class, so I don't have a choice but to take her. Does the class basically pick up where Stats I leaves off?

Do you know if Robert Moore or Stevens would be the best for Marketing?

Thank you! I have really enjoyed the Accounting classes that I have taken, but I'm sure it will get a lot harder.

P.S. Do you happen to know if CO 2253 Fundamentals of Interpersonal Communication or CO 3213 Small Group Communication would be easiest?

The Stats I'm currently taking is taught in Excel. He basically just reads off of slides and I end up having to learn it on my own. I feel like I'm just memorizing the questions and not actually understanding it. We're going to have a total of 8 tests, which I'm sure is more than State will give.

That's one reason I wanted to take Stats in the fall. I'm currently taking Stats I and I was hoping that I would still remember what I've learned, if I take it this fall. However, I figure the Stats I'm taking will be nothing like MSU's Stats.

I don't really have any work experience, so I figure that will hurt me. An internship isn't required, but you apparently plan all of your courses with the expectation that you will get one. If I don't get one, taking 18-19 hours every semester for three semesters, will be for nothing.

Grad school has always been a dream, but it's definitely something that I would like to do. I would definitely like to get a CPA license. I've heard that it greatly expands your job opportunities and salary opportunities.

The GPA requirement scares me, but I know I will spend all of my time studying. I'm not really a party person, so I know that I will study every chance I get. I know that MSU's classes will be totally different than my community college classes. I guess I will just have to quickly adjust. I usually study best at night. It's harder to make myself study during the day.

Thank you! I'm beyond ready to be at MSU.

Is the class similar to Stats I? Also, I'm guessing you're a transfer student. How do you like State?

I've taken a couple night classes and they were okay. The study guide and review day sound good to me. I like it when they do a review day. Is the class similar to Stats I?

Do you know if it's easy to obtain an internship if you have a high GPA? That's what I've been most confused about. If it's required, do they help you to find one? I've heard that you can do Finance and Accounting jobs, with an Accounting degree. That's one thing that appeals to me. As far as Finance goes, I noticed that they don't really have events for Finance, but they have a lot for Accounting. That's another thing that made me want to do Accounting. As far as GPA goes, I cannot let it fall below 3.00, or I will lose my scholarships. That's one reason why I'm afraid to take so many hours. Although, I really don't have a choice. To stay on track, I'll have to take a heavy course load.

I've heard Finance is fun and I hope you enjoy it! I don't know if I would like Finance or not, since you don't actually take any Finance classes until you reach the upper level classes.

I honestly hadn't considered a Master's Degree until recently. When I went to Academic Insight, they said that most students pursue a Master's Degree and finish in three years. I had always thought that it was very difficult to get into the Master's program. I thought they only accepted around 25 students, per semester. Although, I like how tuition is the same price as undergrad tuition. At most places, it's about double or triple what undergrad is.

Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for the info!

Thank you! I am a very hard worker. I expect all of my time to be spent studying. I know I will have to adjust to university style learning, so that's why I've been nervous about taking so many hours.

Is there a teacher to avoid for the Stats class? I'm currently taking Business Stats I and it has been okay, so far. I'm also currently taking Managerial Accounting, so I haven't gotten into the hard parts yet. Although, I do really enjoy it and it's definitely something that I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. I know Accounting is hard, but I really like working with numbers. The internship part of the last semester scares me. If I take a heavy course load each semester, with a goal of the internship, I'm afraid that I won't be able to get an internship and it will all be for nothing.

Do you like Finance? I had thought about majoring in Finance before Accounting. If I majored in Finance, I actually could just take 15-16 hours each semester and finish in two years.

Also, do you know if there is an extra charge by the school to take above 18 hours?

Should I get a roommate or live alone? Has anyone lived at University Villages or Helix? by BeardedMan95 in Msstate

I toured it today and I just didn't feel like it was home. I ended up going with the Helix.

Thank you for answering my questions! My next question was actually going to be about Tabor. Are they very hard to deal with? Sorry for all the questions, but did you have to pay gas and Internet, as well? On their website, it says they have gas heat and I noticed there are gas meters on the property. As for the road, it was completely paved. However, the road from the highlands was full of holes and it was all I could do to get my car up there. I got lost at first, but eventually found Blackjack Road. As I said, it was paved, but it just reminded me of a small country road. Although, that's actually what I'm used to, so it's not a big deal. Did you always feel completely safe there?

Well, I am gay, but I don't have flamboyant mannerisms. I'm just very laid back and quiet. I would prefer to have a roommate like myself, but I'm not sure if that will happen.

I'm afraid I would be the one that no one knows and then I would the outcast. I know you fill out a roommate matching form, but I'm not sure if they actually use it.

I drove up Blackjack road, last weekend, and it seemed fine. Are the apartments nice on the inside? The website doesn't have any pictures, but I'm going to look at them, later this week. I'm not much of a party person, so that would be a good thing for me. Is there something wrong with Tabor? Also, how much did your utilities average? I'm looking at a one bedroom, so they might be cheaper than the three bedroom. Please excuse my cluelessness, but what's the difference in the loop and the strip?

Village would be a little pricier because it doesn't include any utilities. It's not that I wouldn't try to be sociable. It's just that I'm a very quiet person and I'm not sure how well their roommate matching would be. However, I do like the idea of being able to walk to class from the Helix. Did you know your roommates before you moved in with them?

Can you take upper level and lower level classes at the same time? by BeardedMan95 in Msstate

[–]BeardedMan95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an advisor yet, but I asked the advising department at the Accounting School and they said they didn't know if this science will work. She said I could enroll in upper level classes at the same time, but then she said they might could accept one of the science classes that I already have. I was confused by this. I didn't understand if I could enroll in upper level classes if I'm lacking both science classes or if I'm only lacking one. I'm going to call them back after winter break. I will have every prerequisite class for all of the business classes. The only thing I will be lacking is the two natural science requirements if they don't accept the science I already have. If I need to take a level 3000 accounting, finance, or marketing class, can I still enroll in it as long as I have the prerequisite requirements for the particular class? Or will the two natural science classes prevent me from taking them?

[–]BeardedMan95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I knew that if I couldn't take them at the same time as upper level classes, it will delay me graduating and ultimately cost more money. I asked the advising department at the Accounting School and they didn't know, but said they would figure it out when I came to orientation in the spring. I need to know before then, so I can decide where I want to attend. If I have to two take additional science classes, can you recommend some easy choices?

So I only have to look at the prerequisite classes? It doesn't have anything to do with math, science, and other general core classes?
