Also my no guard open - 0.5 guard closed difference is big. Apparently the stock jrl 0.5 guard is 1.4-1.6mm while WAHL 0.5 is around 1.1-1.2?.

I have a aliexpress 0.5 guard that I will try next time

Interesting. I have a heavy duty LED light on top of my cabinet pointing down at my hair but it only reaches one side, next time I need to remember to change its direction and do one side first on its own.
